kikyo026
so in other words it alright?cuz if it is then im getting really sick of people telling me that i should change!!!and that its not muslim like

Do you believe in Allah?
Do you belive in all His prophets and angels?
Do you believe in heaven and hell?
Do you pray 5 times a day and fast in Ramadan?
Do you treat people with respect, "treat people as you want to be treated"?
Do you refuse to lie, cheat, steal, have premarital sex, hit or abuse others, and to kill another human?

If you answer yes to all of these, then I don't think Allah will care what you wear, even if it's a mini skirt scream ! Just don't wear nail polish when you perform wudu cuz it stops the water from reaching your nails, you can wear nail polish after you have done wudu (but you will have to take it off when you do wudu again)

stressed YOU SHOULDN'T CARE WHAT ANYONE TELLS YOU ABOUT YOUR GOTH DRESS! YOU ARE A GOOD MUSLIM!

In the majority of cases, most people can't claim whether you are a good muslim or not, they don't know you, they don't know how exactly you feel, how deep your faith is, they don't know what you do and what you practice. They can only see a bit of you. They cannot pass judgement on how good of a muslim you are, and we shouldn't try, because none of us are perfect in our practice. It is something between you and Allah.

However, the Qur'an and hadith state very clearly a suitable way of dressing for both men and women. This is a decree by Allah (swt), as much as any other, and He does care about his followers abiding by his rules, whether this is prayer, fasting or the way we dress or what we eat and how we act.

And Allah knows best =)

Assalamu Alaikum =)

I won't say I'm knowledgeable at all about whether it is haram or halal to be goth or punk or anything, I really don't think I'm the person to claim either one or the other. However, during my time in university I did research among goths about their identity and lifestyle. We chose to target people in their twenties.

Firstly, goth is not a religion in itself. Many seem to be agnostic, but I've also met plenty of Christians, for example. Furthermore, the goths in our research expressed a mindfulness of death and that this life is only transitory, (which is something that we, as muslims, should also keep in mind constantly) not an obsession with sadness or death. I have furthermore only met kind, upstanding, and respectful people among these goths =)
I do agree that much of the outward fasion style doesn't really fit with islamic dresscode, however.

My question to people who believe it is haram is this: I knew a muslim girl who would dress as a goth (rather moderately) in the comfort of her own home. When outside, however, she would dress perfectly correctly. Is this still haram? When someting should not be done or worn in public, that doesn't make it haram necessarily. I'm quite curious ^^

(also I haven't even introduced myself here yet, I'm so sorry .___. promise I'll do this right away!)

Yes i agree it is fine if you wear it in your home and you are moderate.

There is nothing in wearing black but wearing short cloths.

that do not cover your elbows and legs full are not right cloths

I swear it's like banging my head against a wall. Hadith can be inaccurate and only few of them credible and many are made up or changed. The only thing that you can trust 100% ALL the time is the Qur'an. It goes without saying that Allah's words are far more reliable than ANY human's.

Nowhere n the Qur'an does it say how you should dress, it only says Women are not to dress and act like a man and for men not to dress and act like women. That is as far as it goes.

These are two verses from the Qur'an that speak about dress.

"And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband's fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers or their brothers' sons, or their sisters' sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss." (24:31, Translation by Yusuf Ali)

In this particular verse, the word used for "their veils" is khomorehen, the headscarf.

"O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful." (33:59, Translation by Yusuf Ali)

The Arabic word that is used for garments, is "jalaabeebeehen".
Jalaabeeb comes from the word Jalbabah, which means the movement of air in a loose space (i.e. inside a loose garment) as far as I understand.

I'm afraid I don't posess knowledge of the Arabic to fully understand everything, so I mainly rely on translations and what my husband can explain to me, as he is a native Arabic speaker.
Also, I believe there are reliable hadith about dress and observing hijab. But I don't feel confident enough to list them off the top of my head. I'd have to look it up.
