Vanhi never mentioned a test of strength. The lions of the dunes were even greater in size and strength than she remembered. Hiding her apprehension behind a stern expression, Kokabiata humbly accepted the pride’s test and soon found herself with an opponent: Lakeisha, the huntress. Though she felt proud that she had the opportunity to earn her place among the Firekin through a show of strength and skill she worried that her lack of experience would end this fight quickly. The day before the fight she found a secluded place to practice her attacks on a dying tree. Practice boosted her confidence, but she wondered if her efforts would make any real difference.
The two white lionesses squared off. Koka circled, trying to get a feel for her opponent. Lake looked almost like she could be one of Koka’s sisters that wandered off to die among the dunes. No, she looks more like Dhalim. Black fur prickled down her spine.

Koka charged into the center of the ring and swiped at her opponent’s neck. She relied on the force of her blow rather than her claws to do the damage. Even though in her heart she was fighting against the oppressive spirit of her father, she kept a cool head in the midst of her fury, as was always her way.
