Iroh grinned.
"That's a pretty good motto! I don't think I have one of my own, and I wouldn't want to take yours. But I'll be the best water-seeker I can be, and if that makes me the best there is, I guess that's destiny!" He laughed, shaking his head, his fluffy tufts of mane flopping from side to side. He liked the idea of being the best, even if he wasn't particularly competitive by nature, and he wasn't exactly in a competitive job.
He looked thoughtful as he considered his new friend's words. It was true. He was a Firekin, and he understood what it meant to be a member of this pride. This family. He felt the pride of being able to give himself that name, and the desire to prove himself worthy of all the honor it had earned and he saw so often in the fire of other pride member's eyes. There was more in his blood than fighting, of course, but strength of body and mind were definitely one of the things that he respected and loved most about being a Firekin.
"You're right! We could both surprise ourselves," he nodded, liking the idea. His smile broadened and his soft, gentle eyes sparked with excitement, "friends it is, Azar!" He liked the sound of that, already.

Okay, so this guy was cheery, didn't have a speck of red on him, but he was okay. Sort of. Yes he had found a friend in this male after all.
He let a lazy grin stretch its way across his maw and, with a sharp nod, he stood up straighter and let his fiery eyes fall to Iroh's.
"That's that then." He replied. "Friends destined to become the best of the best." He puffed his chest a little further out. "Next time we meet, we'll have our duel, okay? I want to see what you're capable of. No one can be all smiles all the time, right?" He flicked an ear idly. They were both Firekin after all. They possessed fighting abilities whether they wanted them or not.

Iroh laughed and nodded. He was feeling excited, but he kept it in his chest, holding himself up straighter and with a greater air of confidence or pride, or something of his own design, just because he had made a new friend he was truly pleased to get to know. He imagined they were of dissimilar sentiments on a lot of things, and that's what made it a good start.
"Well, I'm sure I must not smile all the time," he said, teasing himself because he knew it was a bit weird for him to be so aggressively positive all the time, "I mean, maybe not when I'm asleep? But if we duel I might enjoy myself a lot, and I'll probably be grinning then, too." He laughed.
"But I look forward to our duel, and I'll treat it with the seriousness and respect it deserves. It'll be a good match, I can see that already." He didn't elaborate on what he meant, though it seemed his tone was indicating more than just the chance to see their strengths against each other. In his head he would learn a lot from watching this lion fight, and maybe teach something in the process. It was definitely going to be a good experience.

"We'll have to see about that!" Azar replied, eager now to test out his skills. Just a little bit longer and he'd be old enough. Then he could make sure to impress his teacher with all the skill he had learned. Yes, Guards could fight too, dammit!
"Right. I'm off. I'll catch you for that duel later, Iroh." He stood, swept his head up proudly and, without another word or a glance over his shoulder, took off across the sea of sand.
Yes. He'd done it. He'd made a friend.

Iroh nodded, flicking his tail and waving a paw fairly uselessly as Azar made off, since the other lion didn't look back at him. Grinning, looking forward to the duel, as well as feeling excited about making a new friend, the white Firekin stood and opted to head back to his own den.
He had some training to do, after all.
