I think I like them both equally. But I'm slightly leaning towards G.U.

I like GU better because I knew more about Haseo as a character, and instead of discovering myself I discovered Pi and Alkaid

I liked the battling in IMOQ, but I liked the story better in GU, so I dunno. D:

IMOQ is more interesting, but GU is faster. I like the characters more in IMOQ, though; in GU they were all so over-exaggerated gamer stereotypes that I felt embarrassed whenever I had to listen to characters talk. I suppose mostly I liked how Kite was sort of 'blank' for you to project yourself onto. Given Haseo, you're forced to watch him be a big jerk for absolutely no reason, all the time, and there's nothing you can do about it except be forced to watch him understand the pains of growing up and being a teen and what have you.

I kinda liked the characters better in GU. I think they had more personality. :0

I'd like to think less-is-more in terms of the characters. I felt in GU they were incredibly over-baring and very contrived. It was like everyone on your party was Piros at the same time, all the time. Also you were Piros. It was just an entire story made up of Piroses and there was nothing you could do but listen to them talk about growing up and how hard it is to come out of one's shell and do the right thing.

I agree wholeheartedly with your perspective, Zyxa.
Every character seemed to be the personification of
a certain emotion most commonly associated with
high school. In essence, .hack//G.U. lacked very
round characters, and their stories were especially
cliche. Though not exactly as annoying as Piros,
each exemplified their assigned emotion, ranging
anywhere from childish rebellion to suicidal desper-
ation to unadulterated lust, and their character never
moved from that specified aspect.
