Talutah looked around wondering which way to go. Drathir had made sure she had no problems with passing by the guards at the border but had left her on her own afterward. Of course not before giving her a few pointers on what to look for and where to find it. Or him to be exact. She was supposed to look for Iartuupe, he said, big lion with a black pelt and red mane. And said lion was supposed to be somewhere around here. Not anymore, obviously. She could see a couple of cubs but no grown ups.

"Iartuupe, Iartuupe, where are you?" She murmured softly to herself. In the end she decided that he was probably in his den. It was her best bet so she went off in the direction where the royal dens were supposed to be.

Iartuupe had just finished up doing a few things inside his den and was on his way out now. Emerging from the entrance, he looked around for a moment, tail tip flicking ... and then hopped up on top of the rocks.

Once there, he flopped down on his stomach, enjoying the lingering heat of the day that was trapped in the big rocks.

Head on paws, he blinked at a new lioness coming toward the royal dens, and eyes narrowed. Another new demon...? Perhaps. Content to wait for the moment, he watched her come closer.

Talutah was pleased when she finally did see the dens. She had gotten Drathir's directions right. She continued onward cautiously, well aware that the pride's rulers might not appreciate a rogue simply waltzing up to them instead of waiting respectfully for them to come and speak with her. Lost in her thoughts she almost missed the large lion resting atop of the rocks near the den directly ahead. Tilting her head with a thoughtful expression Talutah approached and stopped at a respectful distance. She eyed the male, he fit the description she was given.

"King Iartuupe," she finally addressed him and bowed her head. "I am honored to finally meet you. I have heard a lot about you and this pride of demons. I come seeking permission to join your ranks." She looked directly at him as she spoke, chin held high. Her ears were pulled back, however, in a sign of deference and her whole posture spoke of submissiveness, but also pride. She did not challenge his authority, but simply wished to be treated with the same respect she offered.

Well, that was a nice surprise... one who seemed to know her place from the very start. Iar made a soft rumbling sound and nodded just a bit - posture regal. His temper was quick to fray with those who tried it, but for this one ... he could afford to be magnanimous.

"And what was it that made you want to join this pride.....?" he asked, pausing just slightly, silently asking for her name as well.

Talutah smiled to herself. For some reason she had feared he might attack her for intruding like that. This was a good start. "My name is Talutah. When I was a young cub a lion joined our rogue group. He told me he was once a part of a pride of demon-lions." She smiled as she remembered the old rogue. "He saw something in my eyes, told me that there was something dark in me." Her golden eyes flashed as she said that. "I was taught the ways of the demons and when I was old enough to fend for myself I left to find others of my kind. And here I am."

Really now... that was quite the interesting story. Iar knew that descendants of the original pride had been scattered, but he wondered why this one that Talutah spoke of had never come back.

"What was this lion's name?" he asked then. "And where is he now?"

Hmm, he was interested in her teacher. She should have expected that. The questions still surprised her a little. She hadn't had any contact with him ever since she set out on her quest to find other demons.

"His name was Malakai." She began slowly. "I am not sure of his whereabouts, we parted ways a long time ago. It is possible that he is no longer among the living." If he was still alive, thought Talutah, he was very old by now. She didn't even want to know where he was, it was better this way. Malakai had never shared his reasons for leaving the pride with her, but she had picked up on some things - he had had some issues with the pride's authoritative figures apparently. When Talutah had expressed her desire to find the pride he had not been happy, but he accepted it in the end.

Malakai...? Iartuupe didn't recognize the name, but that didn't really mean anything. If he had been part of the original pride, it would have been years ago, likely before Iar had discovered his own demon.

"What did he teach you?" came the next question.

"Malakai taught me everything I know." Talutah replied simply. "my fighting skills, what I know of demons. He told me there was one inside of me and taught me how to...communicate with it." She had felt the demon since her earliest days but back then she hadn't known what that presence was. A whisper, a fleeting feeling, sometimes stronger, sometimes weaker. But it was always there, at the back of her mind.

"He also taught me about Morifaer and Sparda, the gods of the Dark Pride. Each with his own ideas about the demons' place in this world." Sparda preached that demons should peacefully co-exist with other creatures, Malakai had said, but Talutah agreed with Morifaer - demon-lions were superior to any other life form.
