Ugh.
She'd had a terrible day. The little rats many referred to as cubs had been complaining and whining about every little thing. Their meat wasn't juicy enough, the game wasn't fun enough, the story was boring, just anything they could whine about they did. Niliua rolled her tense shoulders, trying to relax her muscles as she padded slowly back to her den. She needed something to relieve her stress, something she could take her anger out on.
A smirk crossed the demoness' face.
Well, that was what slaves were for.
Quickening her pace in anticipation, she trotted into the den with new purpose, eyes eagerly seeking out the disgustingly beige coat of her toy. Thoughts of the games she could play danced through the female's mind, but for the moment she concentrated on finding him, mouth opening to let out a playful call - something the usually quiet female didn't often do. "Oh Kweeeeuuu?"

After an hour of walking Kweu had come across an abandoned carcass. Nearly all the flesh had been picked away by vultures and other scavengers, but Kweu held out hope for some marrow left inside the bones. He managed to drag part of the carcass back to the cave and was now gnawing at a rib. Several broken ribs lay on the floor around him, the marrow scooped out with his tongue. It was hardly a filling meal.
With the bone between his jaws, Kweu glanced at the lioness entering the cave with immediate suspicion. It was not like Nil to call for him like this. She sounded almost like Paiya. That thought caused his fur to stand on end. A growl started to build in the back of his throat but he cut it off before his mistress could hear, knowing that he would only make her angry. He rose warily, shoulders hunched with suspicion. “Mistress?”

Ah, he answered. How good of him! Her eyes flashed as her faze darted around to face him, a smirk playing across her paw. She didn't know what this mood was - she felt playful, bored. She knew she was acting out of character, probably more like the bolder Paiya. But that didn't matter, since no-one else was here. No-one else but her darling little slave, watching her with an expression she couldn't quite pinpoint. But that wasn't to matter.
"Where is my dinner, Kweu?" she asked in the same playful tone, before it switched to a far more serious one entirely. She realized how unlike herself she was being, and quickly took control again, smirk fading as she stared expectantly, "I expect a meal after a busy day of working. And this," she sneered, wrinkling her nose in disgust as she kicked away a broken bone, "Is hardly a meal."

Kweu’s eyes widened in disbelief and dread. In spite of his natural coloring, he was terrible at hunting large prey. That was why he had been so desperate to find a group of females to help him reclaim his old pride. He would have never survived in the rogue lands on rabbits and other rodents, for that was all he could catch on his own. “You never said that before,” he protested weakly. “Paiya and Rhaen are huntresses. You could always get your meat from them.”
Deep down he knew it was useless to reason. He tried reasoning with Nil before, but she always ignored him. He was completely powerless against her.

His protest sparked something inside of her. With a growl Nil darted forwards, suddenly mere millimetres from Kweu as she glared into her eyes, upper lip curled back to reveal her teeth as a low, rumbling growl was heard in her throat. A paw came up, claws unsheathing as she pressed her paw agaisnt his neck ever so gently. The less gently part came with the drawing of blood from her claws.
"Slaves should not protest. They should not spek unless explicitly given permission to do so." she hissed, clearly no longer in such a playful mood, "And they should never try to push their work off onto others. Paiya, Rhaen and myself. We've been working hard all day, whilst you have merely been lazing around like some king."

Kweu backed away, neck bunched up against his shoulders and tail between his legs. He winced as her claws sank into him.
Like some king, she said. What cruel irony in those words. Kweu knew what it meant to laze around all day like some king. He was some king once upon a time, far far away. He had a mate and a pride to look after his every need. Indeed there were days when he did nothing but lie around in the shade while the lionesses hunted and his brother looked after political affairs. His life in the demon pride was nothing like that.
Today he had wandered around for hours in desperate search for food. He gobbled up a field mouse like it was a whole antelope and was taunted by an insane little demon with devilish black eyes, then wandered for hours more until he stumbled across the carcass, which he had dragged back to the den. His stomach had shrank three sizes down since Rhaen and her cohorts captured him. Sleep was scarce. Sometimes he felt certain he would die here. Now Nil expected him to hunt for her. She expected him, a pampered, bumbling idiot who naively walked into Rhaen’s trap, to bring down prey? All these ran through his head like cold water, leaving him so numb that he could hardly feel her claws in his flesh anymore. He closed his eyes in silence.

He backed away and she sunk her claws in further to keep him closer - she had to show him who was boss. Who was in control. Niliua sneered softly, growling and snapping her teeth to try a provoke a reponse. But strangely enough, there wasn't any.
"Answer me when I'm talking to you, slave!" she snarled, irritated by the lack of response or fight. Her claws sank dangerously deeper, paw pushing back harder against the wall to cut off his air should he continue his silence. "Showing your mistress disrespect is not a wise move."

Kweu whimpered, tears in his eyes. Her claws stung, his stomach twisted in hunger, even his thoughts seemed to burn. How much longer would pain have meaning? How much longer could this go on before he forgot what pleasure felt like? He wheezed softly as she pushed him against the wall.
“I… I haven’t… What’s so kingly about this?! Nothing, nothing! Isn’t my position… isn’t it humiliating enough without you comparing me to a king?! I’m not, I’m not!” He gasped for breath, continuing slowly and quietly. “I c-can’t hunt for you, mistress. It would be an-an insult for me to try. I’ve never been able to catch anything bigger than a hare on my own, I swear on my life that’s the truth! I’ve never needed to really hunt before. Please forgive me…”

Ugh, what a pathetic creature. He was whimpering. As if he wasn't weak enough, without this ridiculous whimpering. "Have a backbone," she hissed, dropping him from where he was, turning and stalking away a little, her claws kneading the rocky ground below her. She stalked to the front of her den, gazing out briefly before heading back in again, eyes narrowing as she cast them on the pale lion once more.
"You shouldn't argue, Kweu," she scolded, her tone of voice a little softer, in a way you might gently tell a child. her narrowed eyes gave the game away, as her tone became quite a bit harsher as he snarled, flashing her teeth as if to warn him again about speaking out of line. "You don't deserve forgiveness, pathetic slave!" He did have a point, though. She was a far beter huntress than him, and she was only a mere cub nurse in the pride. Ugh, such a pathetic excuse for a lion. "You may not hunt, but you busy yourself with other such tasks. You should be busy at all times, and not in your mistress' way. Understand, Kweu?"
His reaction was too slow, no matter how fast it may have ben, and she lashed out, dragging her claws along his back fiercely. "Understand!?"

Kweu clung to the cave floor like yellow lichen. Eyes closed, teeth grit and body trembling from anguish and fear. What could he do? Even if he lashed out in self defense (though only a brute would strike a lady) he would have a whole pride against him. He started to reply, voice trembling, but his words were cut short by a roar of pain and the claws scratching against gravel. Finally he managed to spit out, “Y-yes mistress!!”

Any demon would keep their pain inside, wouldn't show such weakness. His status as a slave was only solidified in the lionness' mind by his roar of pain, Niliua scoffing in disgust as she turned her back on him. She couldn't even bare to look at such a pathetic creature. "Now leave! I can't be dealing with such pathetic lions right now! Return when you've gained some guts," she snarled, pacing.

Stumbling ungracefully, Kweu'Rasi half crawled, half ran from the cave with his tail between his legs. Blood dribbled down his back from fresh wounds, leaving dark marks on his fur. When he was far away from the cave he found a cool, quiet knook to lie down and lick his wounds. When the taste of blood touched his tongue he choked and dissolved for a moment into quiet sobs, but he took a deep breath and managed to calm himself, though he felt so tired inside and out.
"You're better than her," he said quietly, preaching to himself. "She's nothing but a monster, but there's still some nobility in your blood and the gods will reward you if you remember that. You're better than all of them."
He curled around himself, hidden by the shadows, and tried to find some semblance of sleep.
