She had no idea how long she had been running. Neither, she had idea of why she did that. Only thing she knew was rushing panic and desire to get out, somewhere, anywhere. She had just ran and ran and ran until her feet lost all power and she had collapsed down.
A little voice inside her head spoke sternly to her: "Get up. Get up. You can't just lie down here. You need to eat. You need to find some water." She heard it, and she realized it was true. If only she could move her foot! She felt so tired, maybe she could take a nap..... "No! Don't sleep!" stern voice scolded her. But it was too late. Her eyelids had already shut down.
Time passed. She slept in unconcious stage.... Then, she heard voices. Familiar voices. Vultures.
Oh no.

Mfuasi frowned lightly as he peered at the ground below. He had been flying for ages, but hadn't seen a single sign of life. To a vulture that should be a good thing, but this particular vulture was on a mission. He had been asked by a certain lion friend of his to go out and find a female feline of any kind and then report back to him. He was just about to give up his search, when finally something caught his eye.
It was a sandy-coloured lioness, lay face down in the sand. With a coat like that, no wonder she had been hard to spot. Smirking, he immediatly changed direction and headed back to the area that Mwenyezi himself had been searching.
As soon as he spotted him, Mfuasi called out. "Mwenyezi, follow me!"Mwenyezi hadn't been searching quite as hard as Mfuasi. He believed in fate and destiny, and so he wasn't as eager to search things out as he believed that they would simply come to him in time. Today was no different, and so he found himself wandering around in one small area, as he was sure that Mfuasi would soon return to him with good news. And he was right.
After calling out to him, Mfuasi guided him right to the lioness, who actually wasn't all that far outside of the pride borders. Mwenyezi tutted as he looked over her body. She was very badly scarred, and was clearly exhausted. Luckily for her, the sly lion was aware of a small lake nearby, which would be the perfect place for her to recover. Grinning to himself, he then proceeded to somehow pull her on to his back, so that he may carry her to the lake and wake her.

In certain level, she was aware of what was going on. She could faintly hear Mwenyezi's steps and wingbeats of his vulture friend. Their scent also got in her nosticles. It made her feel anxious especially the smell of vulture. Maybe that's why couple whines escaped between her lips, like she would be seeing a nightmare. She went silent pretty quickly though and Mwenyezi could carry her without any other interuptions.
At least before they arrived by the lake. The scent of sweet lake water was rather strong now, enough strong to wake her up. She couldn't see much though, everything was so blurry and confusing and she was so tired. But she catched a small sight of something blue and right that moment she knew what it was. "Water," she whispered, a thankful tone in her quiet voice.

Mfuasi cocked his head as he took a closer look at the lioness. He was curious as to how she had gotten all those scars, and what she was doing in this particular area. All would be revealed in time though, so with a few mighty flaps of his wings he took to the skies.
When they arrived at the lake, he landed on the branch of a nearby tree, casting a dark shadow over his friend and his future Banu. Yes, Mwenyezi would claim this one with ease.
Mwenyezi heard her quiet cries as he carried her to the lake. It was unclear at this point how the lioness would react to him once she was fully awake. Surely she would be grateful to begin with, but with all those scars, he wondered if she would have a hard time trusting others.
When they reached the lake, he crouched down and allowed the lioness to gently slide off his back. She was awake now, and so he lowered his head to smile at her. "You are safe now. Drink your fill, and when you are ready, I would love to know your name."

"Thank you," she whispered, with grateful voice. She made her way towards oh so inviting water. Her steps were slow and shaky, like she could collapse in any moment. She made it though and started drinking hastily, completely forgetting the lion and vulture behind her for some time. It was like there would be nothing else in this world other than she and water she drank.
It was until she noticed a reflection in the water surface from a nearby tree. It was shadowy image of the certain type of bird. Surprised and scared, she gasped, accidentally swallowing water into her lungs. After she survived from the coughing attack, she turned around. She stared at Mjuasi for a long time, eyes narrowed, not trusting the bird at all. Then she turned to speak at his lion friend.
"Is that bird a friend of yours?"

Mfuasi watched the lioness carefully. Although he was quite positive that she would come willingly, you could never be 100% sure. If she lashed out at Mwenyezi, he would simply have to swoop down and scratch her eyes out. As he considered this, a small grin touched his beak.
When the lioness spotted him, he frowned at her. She didn't seem to like him one bit, but then, Mfuasi didn't really like anyone other than Mwenyezi. Mwenyezi was the only lion who he could truely trust.
Mwenyezi also watched the lioness carefully, but his expression was a lot less harsh than Mfuasi's. He had complete confidence in his ability to talk others into his own way of thinking, and so he wasn't at all worried about the lioness turning on him.
When she noticed Mfuasi, Mwenyezi found her reaction to be fasinating. At first she seemed scared, and then she just looked extremely cautious. Perhaps it was a vulture who had scarred her? "Why yes, Mfuasi is my most trusted friend. If it were not for him, I may not have found you..." He trailed off, as the lioness had yet to introduce herself.

"Oh."
It would been a lie to say she didn't feel even a bit embarrased. They had saved her life and she was acting kinda rude to them. Still, she couldn't shake off the uncomfortable feeling she had when that gloomy bird was around.
"Well, my greatest apologies then. I'm truely grateful for you saving me life," she said and gave a deep bow towards vulture's direction. Her voice was much clearer now and the tone in her voice was slightly too sweet. Was she really meaning what she said?
"Same to you, tattoo boy," she said with a smirk, bowing to Mwenyezi now. "That water was really refreshing. Thank you." She gave a small smile before walking slowly out of the water. She made her way in the shade of a tree, a different tree than the one Mfuasi was sitting on. She wanted to keep an eye on the vulture, and his lion friend.
Feeling kind of confused and lost, she started cleaning herself, hoping that it would appeal to them as a natural thing that a lady would do in this kind of situation. After all, her fur was dusty and dirty and many of those scars and wounds she had were more or less unclean. Her real reason for this act were to buy time, though. She remembered the lion asking her name but for some reason, she couldn't remember anything further. Her memory was totally blank. The surroundings were strange and unfamiliar. She couldn't remember in which direction she had came from or how long time had gone since she had left her home. Or why, why she had left it? What had happened to her? Where did those scars came from? So much questions and no answers at all.
Maybe the most embarrassing question though was her name. She didn't even remember her name. Her own name! Glancing at her saviors shortly and then focusing in her fur, she tried to figure out how she could evade a humilition of revealing her memory loss. Apparently, her memory wasn't coming back anytime soon so she needed to think up something......... Hmm, could this work?
"My real name is secret," she said suddenly while finishing her cleaning project. "You can call me whatever you want." She glanced around before turning to talk with Mwenyezi again. "And I would be pleased to know if anywhere here would be good hunting grounds."

Mfuasi nodded breifly, seemingly accepting her thanks but having no real need or desire for it. He couldn't really care less if she was grateful, as there was still a chance that she may not be grateful enough to join Mwenyezi's harem willingly. Only when he had to use a bit of force was Mfuasi truely happy.
When she said that her real name was a secret, the vulture frowned deeply. "Are you mocking us female?" He spat, before glancing at Mwenyezi. He knew that Mwenyezi wouldn't approve of him speaking to the female like that, so he simply ruffled his feathers and turned his back on the pair.
Mwenyezi smiled and bowed in return. "You are most welcome my dear." When she moved away to start cleaning herself, the pale lion thought more about how she had gotten those scars. He would have to be ever so careful around this one, as who knew what she had been through.
"Forgive me. We have been asking for your name, and yet we have not revealed our own. I am Mwenyezi, and he is Mfuasi. It is an honour to meet such a lovely female as yourself, and we are only too happy that we could be of assistance." The pale lion was sure that these sugar-coated words would get the female on side, but when she told him that her real name was a secret, he raised a brow. "I see."
Mwenyezi frowned in Mfuasi's direction when he had a go at the female. "Don't be rude Mfuasi. This female has only just come into our lives. If she does not wish to tell us her name, so be it." When he turned back to the female, he smiled and took a few steps towards her. "You have the most beautiful eyes, just like sapphires. And so, I shall refer to you as Yakutu." He grinned. "Very pleased to meet you Yakuti."

"Yeah, it's our pride's tra --" she continued her just-made-up story about her name but Mfuasi interupted her with his sudden outburst. Instantly, she drew herself in the ground, trying to look as tiny and harmless as possible. A natural instinct from the past even though she couldn't remember it. In her mind, the bird was dangerous, one of those she could never trust.
Mwenyezi, however, seemed to be more on her side, he actually defended her. She was genuinely surprised when he scolded his friend of his rudeness. Those words really made an impact to her. Wow, what a gentleman!
When he turned to walk towards her, she was still confused. Still in defensive position too. Her heart was racing and part of her was reluctant to let him come close. But she did nothing to stop him and soon she found his eyes, staring in her own and complimenting them. She heard him giving her new name, Yakuti, a sapphire. "Yakuti," she said quietly, almost whispering. A soft blush rose on her cheeks. "That's a beautiful name. Thanks."

Mfuasi was less than impressed at being told off. It was all part of the plan though, and so he simply bowed his head, but still kept his back to the pair. "I'm sorry, Yakuti." He mumbled. Because he had his back to the pair, the vulture didn't see how Yakuti cowered at him.
Mwenyezi saw everything though. She seemed utterly fearful of Mfuasi. That was good to know, just incase she ever rebelled against him. "Please, don't be afraid." He then knelt down to the ground to meet her. "You're safe now. No one will ever harm you, as long as you stand by my side."
The female seemed to be completely taken in by Mwenyezi's words. "Come, Yakuti. Join me at my side, and I will tell you about my Pride. If you decide that it is not for you, then you are free to leave..." It was always a gamble whenever Mwenyezi told a female that they were free to leave, as it was a lie. So far though, the lie had not revealed itself, as the only other female who he had talked into staying had stayed of her own free will.

His eyes were very comforting. His words were like sugar. Indeed, it was comforting to hear promises of safety she would get if she would join in his side. She could use it. After all, she was in very weak condition. Maybe she could stay for a while, at least until she would be in better shape.
However, there was that nagging voice that told her to not blindly trust him. "You don't even know him... Don't be a fool!" the voice said. This time, she listened that voice.
"I'm sorry but I don't think I can join at your side yet," she said and turned her gaze away from his fascinating eyes. She was in a careful position, looking a bit sad. She glanced at Mfuasi once before continuing her conversation with the tattooed lion. "I mean, I barely know you or the ways of your pride. How can I know that you're not lying to me? What if bad things happen to me if I follow you? You can see bad things have happened to me. I don't want to feel pain anymore." She sighed.
Not long moment passed before her stomach made a needy, growling voice. She blushed a bit, embarrased look on her face. She stood up, a bit weakly but still determited. "I would be thankful though if you would know any good hunting grounds nearby." She had this determited look on her face. She was not kidding. She was actually going to hunt in that condition! Either she had lot of willpower or maybe she overestimated her strength.

Mfuasi's head perked when the lioness declined Mwenyezi's offer. That was not a good sign, but he was sure that the pale lion could change her mind. If not, he would simply swoop down and force her to go with Mwenyezi.
Mwenyezi let out a soft chuckle. "Why would I lie to you? If the ways of my Pride were bad, surely I would've taken advantage of you while you were weak?" He then moved to get a better look at her scars. "Yakuti, I cannot imagine what you've been through in your life. I can understand why you would be wary of others." He then moved back to the front of her, to look her straight in the eyes. "But I promise you, as long as you are with me, you will be safe."
He then motioned in the direction of his Pride, where the dens were and such. "One of my lionesses, Kizuka, only this morning caught a fine meal. There is more than enough for you to share." Smiling, Mwenyezi held out his paw. "I found Kizuka just like I have found you. You see, in this Pride, the males all take it upon themselves to 'look after' a certain amount of females. I myself have two females, Kianga and Kizuka. They are my females and my females alone. No other male may touch them." He smiled. "So you see Yakuti, I alone can offer you protection."
His expression then became somewhat darker. "I'm not going to lie to you. Certain males do beat their lionesses in order to earn respect. That is NOT me though. I cherish my two females, to the point where I am one of the few males in the Pride without cubs. I would never force either of my females to do anything that they do not wish to do." He then moved towards Yakuti to give her the most gentle lick on the cheek. "Please, come with me. Give me and my Pride a chance. As I said, you are free to leave if you wish. I would escort you from our lands myself. What do you say?"

Once Yakuti stopped to think about it, he ha a point in his words. She would probably be dead or enslavered if he wouldn't been a nice guy.
It was uncomforting to let him examine her scars though. He could feel it, smell her fear which she tried to cover up. And when he told her about his pride's ways, especially when he mentioned violent males, her expression was rather worried looking. There was a lot to think about of what he had just said.
And then, he gave her a kiss on cheek. She blinked and instantly took couple steps backwards. She could feel a blush raising on her cheeks. "You," she said but it was more like a whisper. She felt she couldn't look directly at him, so embarrased she felt. "... are quite straightforward." Then a playful smile came on her muzzle. She was starting to relax and open up. "You better stop it." She tilted her head, looking at him from the corner of her eye. "Alright then. I'll accept your offer of the meal. Let's see after it will I stay longer."

Mwenyezi had done it again. "I'll fly on ahead, and have Kianga and Kizuka prepare for your arrival." The vulture then took flight, without taking even a second glance at the scarred lioness. Although Mfuasi was Mwenyezi's friend, he much prefered to observe than actually get involved. And the other two lionesses that Mwenyezi already had didn't like him much either, so it was best for him to just watch from behind the scenes. Or in his case, from above.
Mwenyezi had succeeded. Sure, she hadn't said that she was going to stay, but he knew it would be easy to ultimately convince her once she was safe within his den. Grinning, he bowed his head to her. "That is wonderful news. You'll not regret it." With that, the pale lion started heading in the direction of his den. "Whatever you decide Yakuti, I'm glad that I found you, and was able to help you."
Yes, she was all his now.
(( Finished! ))
