The P.C. Thread
Oh my God. What are people, retarded? Stop nagging me you woman. Get back in the kitchen.
Tee hee hee. This could be an interesting one.
.Has political correctness gone too far? .Where does society draw the line? .Why do people laugh at some jokes, but get uncomfortable with others? .Which topics are touchy and which are easy to joke about?
Some victims of political incorrectness are: Racial Jokes Jokes about the handicapped Sexist Jokes Jokes about child abuse/molestation/murder Dead Baby Jokes Jokes about illness Jokes about recently deceased celebrities
This list goes on. But, it's not only jokes that political correctness sinks it's teeth into.
So discuss!

Heh, that opening was rather amusing... whee
But yes, I feel like political correctness has gone too far...
Especially since I have to say "Happy Holidays" as opposed to "Merry Christmas" so as not to offend someone's way of life and insult their family, beliefs, and character.
I know it's all about tolerance, but has it gotten to the point of where equal rights means no rights for anyone? :<

Notably many of the things people claim have been introduced by P.C. as negative examples are complete fabrications by tabloid press. For example the whole 'winterval' thing has nothing to do with P.C. but was an attempt to promote business by Birmingham city council.

Stereotypical jokes are funny. If you can't laugh at yourself, then you're pathetic. People just need to loosen up. Aslong as a joke isn't said with hate, and it's just that, a joke, then there's nothing wrong with it. Sure enough, some just aren't funny, but if they are, why be ashamed? It's not as big of a deal everyone likes to make out it is.

To laugh at stereotypes is to dismiss them; thus making you correct, and not politics.

People get entirely too worked up about things that don't matter. Hell, I have a toddler, but I still laugh at dead baby jokes.
One of the more idiotic things I deal with happens in World of Warcraft. There is a language filter you can choose to turn on to blank out "offensive" words like ********. Or s**t. Or cumdumpster. Despite this, I've been yelled at repeatedly by other players for cussing in-game. It's always because "there are children that can see that!" A) There's a language filter that they can use, so if they see my cuss words it's their own fault, B) what bad has EVER come from cuss words??? They're offensive because people decide that. ********. Oh look, I've still never lit a puppy on fire! s**t. Nope, I've never committed robbery. Jusus having a**l sex with Muhammad will blowing Buddha. Nope, I've never blown up an elementary school.
And wtf is this thing with a*****e? The a** isn't the part that gets bleeped out. So... hole is more offensive than a**? Here I was thinking we all emitted waste from that orifice.... guess it's just me.
War on Christmas? First off, not everyone is Christian, stop whining, douche bag. Secondly, I don't care if you don't celebrate Christmas, I just wished you a happy day that just so happens to be a religious day for many people. ********, I'm not Christian, yet I celebrate Christmas. Jesus has no part of it, but I'm all about Santa and lights and a fake tree in my living room.
There are schools that celebrate Autumn Season or some s**t like that because Halloween offends people. Are you serious? Do you really have nothing more important to spend your time on than writing angry letters to the superintendent for allowing children to paint pumpkins in art class?
Everything offends someone. Get. The ********. Over it.

I... HATE... political correctness... it screwed me over so badly. Here's what happened two years ago while I was in Air Force Junior Air Force Reserve Officer training Corps. (AFJROTC, ROTC for short) This Bosnian found out that I just got my first girlfriend (which I'm still with 2 1/2 years later) and started saying that she had Down Syndrome. now my brother actually has Down Syndrome so that offended me greatly. I took it well though, only making minor non-racial comebacks like, 'really? She has better grades then you though... now which one has Down Syndrome?' and other things like that. it always happened in ROTC class when the Colonel wasn't listening. I did what I was always told to do and report it to her. She always said shed do something and a month later he got suspended for only three days after the constant everyday bullying. he came back, happy as can be with his three days break and no detentions. Another month went by and I ever was reporting it to the principles of the school which did nothing. Eventually, I just snapped and called him a ******** Bosnian Gypsy that should get deported back to Bosnia instead of causing trouble all the time. After my rage subsided, i regretted it because I'm usually not racist. But then he reported it, the first time he reported and I got kicked out of ROTC just to be safe. AKA political correctness. I am totally convinced that the minorities are giving too much special treatment and that the government and schools are just unknowingly racist to whites. Sorry for my ranting, i just had to get that off.

I feel the same way about people that say "the R word" in reference to retard/retarded. In my mind, it's all about context. Entirely. I don't use the word "retard" when I'm talking about a kid with Downs Syndrome. That's just rude (albeit accurate). I don't use the word "f**" in reference to gay people (hell, my mom's gay), but I use it in reference to someone who is acting....well, faggy.

Mezalyth What are some things that actually stemmed from Political Correctness then? One example would be... I think it's called Affirmative Action where certain groups of people are given preferences over others because of their suffering, usually due to race or disability. --->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Affirmative_action I'm not saying it's bad (though my dad would definitely say it is) but I am saying it's an example of direct political correctness and how that takes place in people's actions, not just their word usage.

Sounds like what we've got here in Canada? Because we came in and thoroughly, thoroughly mistreated the first nations people, they now get special treatment to try and atone for those actions. Things like free drug rehabilitation since we got their people hooked on alcohol and drugs and the problem has lasted to this day, also free post-secondary education.
