Having children is tough! And when your juggling working, and child care, plus taking care of the house, sometimes the social worker has to pay a little visit...
That's why I've created this tutorial with tips on parenting in the sims 2. Learn about the 3 stages of childhood, and what to expect...
Beforehand~
If you have Free time, a parent has the option of studying Parenting. If they succeed, they can check on their baby, and have some info on how they are doing.
The Baby Years
Okay, Okay, your sim baby won't be a baby for a year. But 'The Baby Days' just don't sound right, okay?
Baby sims need a lot of care. It's best to do this when they need something..
- Feed them
-Bathe them
-Play or Cuddle with them
-And if they need it, change their diapers!
Do a little cycle, when your baby wakes up hungry, do all 5. This will make it easier, so it will seem like your baby isn't always crying all the time!
(As a tip, it's always nice to have the baby's room near the parent's room.)
That's pretty easy, huh?
But then again, twins do come now and then..
Caring for 2 baby's is almost the same as caring for one. It's always best to have 2 parents caring for them.
-Having 2 changing tables always help stinky baby's
-Teenagers can help with baby's too! If Mom is exhausted, and there are 2 baby's to care for, maybe Tina the Teen can help Dad.
That's easier now, right! But it won't be long before your little baby is growing up..
Usually, your baby will remain a baby for 3 sim days. You will receive a notice when it's time to become a toddler. Parents will autonomously pick up baby's with a 'Help with Birthday' icon in their queue, but this interaction can be interrupted, causing for the birthday to be delayed. That's why its best to buy a cake, even though your baby can't eat it.
Hopefully, baby care will be a little more simple now..
Now on to...
The Toddler Years
Toddlers need a little more than baby's now, but they can do a lot by themselves. Here are some tips on keeping them happy..
-Toddler rooms in a 2 story house are better off on the 1st floor, so they can go to their room as they please, since they can't go up stairs.
-It's best to keep them away from Fluffy or Rover's food dish, since they'll probably end up eating their pet food.
-Bathrooms are not a fun place after toddlers have been in them. They LOVE to play with the toilet, so it's best on a 2 story house to have the bathrooms upstairs.
-An assortment of toys are needed. These will keep Toddlers busy when their parents a busy. Some toys build skills too!
-Toilet training is essential. It will save time, and make it so your sims won't have to change diapers, which is a common fear. (Note: The toddler toilet will have to be emptied by a adult after it is used)
Toddlers grow up into children after 4 days. It's always nice to have a birthday cake, especially since after they grow up, they can enjoy it.
Phew! You've made it through the terrible twos. Now it's time for..
Children
Children are pretty easy to take care of, but it's best to follow these tips..
-A toy oven is great for children sims. They can cook themselves a yummy muffin to have as a snack, when Mom can't get them one.
-If you have Seasons, make sure you have leftovers in the fridge. Children can get them out and eat them, saving some cooking time for the parents.
-Learning how to study from parents is always a good way to get better grades.
-If your child gets sent to school in a better mood, they will do a better job.
-Watching Kidz Tube on TV after a No-Fun day at school increases fun fast. Playing a video game always helps too..
Sim Children grow up to Teens in around 20 days (Correct me if I'm wrong). A party is always nice, after all, being a Teen is a exciting event!
Congrats! Your child is now a Teen! Teens can do a lot of things for themselves, making them very easy to care for. Plus, you won't have to worry about that silly social worker taking them away. ((Instead, you'll better take care of them good, so the Grim Reaper won't have to take them away.))
I hope this thread can help you guys take care of sim children, as these tips have worked very well for me. Thanks for reading!
