Alan Wake is a psychological action-thriller being developed by Remedy, the company behind the Max Payne series.
The game follows Alan Wake, a famous writer who has lost his inspiration and hasn't written anything in two years. Now his wife, Alice, takes him on a vacation to the idyllic small town of Bright Falls, to recover and start writing again.
But soon, Alice mysteriously disappears, and Wake finds out that the pages of his own novel, a novel he can't even remember writing, is coming true before his eyes. Now, trapped in a nightmarish Twin Peaks-like town, Wake must solve the mystery of the book himself, as well as find Alice. But things are not that easy...
Soon, a strange, dark force is released, presumabely from the book itself, taking over humans, animals and objects, leading them against Wake.
The key-element to defeat this dark power is light. Using lanterns, flashlights, flare guns and such, Alan Wake fights the forces of darkness with light. Destroying the darkness surrounding the enemy is the only way to fully defeat them, as Wake also has other weapons such as a pistol and a shotgun, which can take out the fiends after removing the darkness protecting them.
Remedy has focused on a strong and smart story, to give a reason for the scares. They want to guarantee the player the best possible gaming experience through an episodic game that moves like a modern TV-series, being divided into episodes, and with many unique NPCs to speak to while exploring Bright Falls during the day. The game is scheduled for release in spring 2010.
Well, what kind of thoughts do you have about the game itself? Are you looking forward to it or not? Well, that's up to you to answer...
