I was hoping to get 12"-18" groups at 300 yards, 3" groups at 100 yards. (With my aim. If I put it in a vice, I'd hope to get more.)

But I guess that's not much of a reality. gonk

So, do you think an AR-15 could get groups like that at those ranges? (I'd hope for better out of an AR-15, though.)

Oh, of course. Some people can get under an inch at 100 yards, so 12-18" at 300 yards can definitely be done. Heck, this reviewer got a .31" group!

Gunblast even did a review with a Bushmaster that did a 1/4" ground at 100 yards, not too shabby... The author claims the worst group was 3/4"...

With a rifle that accurate, I think I should be able to make 2" groups at 100 yards. So far, I've been using nothing but budget hunting rifles- one of which has extremely significant bullet drop at only 50 yards. (One foot) gonk (None of which are very accurate.)

For the Mosin-Nagant, it's an M38. Damn, I didn't realize a WWII-era rifle could be that cheap.

They only made, roughly, 37,000,000. Give or take some... surprised

Personally, I'm partial to our K-31. It's pretty cool, mil-surp ammo was held to an extremely high standard and is non corrosive. Besides, what's not to love about a straight pull rifle with a match grade two-stage-trigger for only $250?

Yeah, probably. That's with scopes and people with decades of shooting experience, though. 2" groups should def. be achievable, though.

What the heck're you shooting that has a foot of drop at 50 yards? I've run some numbers into a calculator, and it shouldn't be that low until 250 yards or so... Any chance it's not zeroed or the front sight's too high?

A marlin 989 m2 .22 rifle. Yeah, it's screwed. The scope's pretty much on target- it's not exactly on center, but it should NOT be causing that kind of drop at 50 yards. Here's a picture of a target I shot at 25 yards-
(Keep in mind that one group was shot before we zeroed the scope.)

I just think it's a horribly inaccurate rifle.

I was going to suggest the Remington 7615, a pump-action rifle that takes .223 STANAG magazines, but it seems they're upwards of $600... except this one for some reason.

Have you considered .22WMR? It's like a .22, but manlier. Not so good for long ranges, but it's got more punch up close.

'Course if you want to see what a $1k AR can do at 100 yards unsupported, with iron sights...

...I can do that too. That's 10 shots, BTW. The 8 out the right was my own fault.
