It was the middle of the day and the sun hung, bright and shining, in the center of the pale blue sky. It would have been hot, if it weren't for the cool breeze that wafted across the Kizino'Zaa pride lands from the nearby ocean. Depending on the direction he faced, the wind made the fur on his back and his boyish mane stand up in odd angles. The young Baharimba lazed in a meadow of vibrantly colored wild flowers. His view of the ocean was blocked by a copse of jungle trees, but he could still hear the ebb and flow of the tide from where he sat; idly coutning the petals on a particularly stunning yellow flower. It reminded him of the sun, and of bees. A couple buzzed nearby, darting in and out of the flowers, and Zuri's ears twitched in acknowledement, but he remained where he was. Bees were only dangerous if harassed.

It was a good day to be crazy. Lamya was in a pleasant mood. The sun was shining. The birds were singing, and the wind was refreshingly cool. There was a plaintive smile on the shadow-talker's pretty face as she strolled through the Kizingo'zaa pridelands with her head held high, tail swishing back and forth behind her as she walked. She had always been an eccentric girl. The nature of her muse and the things it asked her to do made it so. She had been predisposed to copy and to mimic since the day she was born, and the dedication with which she regarded this purpose in her life had only increased with age. Lamya wasn't necessarily insane, but nor was she completely sane. She felt happy, and that was how she considered herself to be. Today she was following the bees; watching as they flew from petal to petal and attempting to mimic the sounds they made. It wasn't easy, being a bee.

There was a lioness (and a rather pretty one, at that!) following the bees. Zuri stood up a little straighter and watched her through narrowed eyes. He recognized Lamya as a member of his pride, though he didn't think he'd ever spoke to her before. He had heard that she was probably less sane than he was and now, as she kept even closer to the bees, he suspected that it was true.
"Careful," he called out to her, "or they'll sting you."
He would have felt bad if he didn't warn her. Zuri was naturally very shy, but he had a soft spot for ladies- especially ones in distress, and he he didn't want to see Lamya get hurt.

When the male spoke Lamya was effectively torn out of her bee-observing reverie. She paused and turned to look at him, swept her gaze over his adolescent form only once before responding.
"Careful," she cocked her head to the side and smirked at him, "or they'll sting you."
The voices screamed her praises, proud of her for listening to them so well. Lamya giggled and glanced sideways at the bees, who continued to buzz harmlessly nearby.

Her attitude made him wrinkle his nose in distaste. Zuri wasn't sure if Lamya was making fun of him or not, and he didn't like it. She was being very rude, and he didn't appreciate her lack of consideration for his concern.
He could have let her just get bitten!
Still, he remembered what he had heard about her eccentricities, and retained his patience.
"I'm serious," the adolescent was earnest, and stared at her with imploring purple eyes, "I've been stung before. It hurts."

"I'm serious," Lamya cackled jovially and, temporarily forgetting about the bees, took a couple of steps closer to Zuri. She knew who he was, knew that he probably suspected that she was crazy, and didn't care either way. She was crazy, to a point, but simply played up her insanity for the sake of fun.
"I've been stung before," she reproduced his expression and his stance, and peered into his face, "It hurts, you know."
There it was. The simple interjection that would make him wonder whether or not she was pulling his leg.

Zuri scowled and, ears pressing back against his skull, took a couple of wary steps backwards as she crept closer. He was quite certain that Lamya would not harm him. Like him, she had been raised in the Kizngo'zaa pride lands. She knew the rules just as well as he did and, while Zuri was certain he wasn't in a lot of danger, he still didn't want her that close to him. Physical contact was not big on his priority list, especially with somebody who seemed to enjoy making things more difficult then they needed to be.
"Fine then," he responded simply, regretting having spoken to her at all, "be that way."
He wasn't about to let her ruin his day, or his reasonably good mood.

"Fine then," Lamya mimicked him with a crazy little giggle. It was clear to her that Zuri did not want to play, but she didn't care. This was the sort of game that could be played many ways, and she didn't necessarily need any willing participants for it to work. "Be that way."
She watched through pale grey eyes as he shied away from her, and was delighted by the effect she was having on him. This was a new development. No one had ever been scared of her before. The dark lioness was not cruel or malicious by any means, but she was always up for a good laugh, and there was something very funny about his trepidation.
"You're scared of me," she told him with a chuckle.

Her observations alarmed him. Zuri paled visibly and immediately feigned bravery in the face of her blatant declarations and strange behaviour. He was strong and stoic for his age, but he didn't have much in the ways of courage. It bothered him that she could see that so easily.
"I am not afraid," he countered immaturely, lips curled upwards in distane.
"You're crazy." It was the only solution to her behaviour. The Kizingo'zaa lions were feel of insane lions, but he had never met one who was quite as affected as she before. He didn't like it.

"You are afraid," Lamya cackled with glee, pleased with herself for being so frightening. It was clear to her that he thought she was crazy, and the shadows were very pleased. They whispered in her ears and told her so.
She nodded in agreement with his accusation.
"I am crazy," she murmured sagely, almost dramatically, "but I am not afraid."

What was that supposed to mean? This crazy lioness was cryptic and vague, and Zuri did not appreciate her demeanour at all. He took a couple more cautious steps away from her, ears pressed against the back of his head defensively as she crept ever closer, and then decided that he should just leave. He ought to go find his brothers and sisters and spend time with them, to rid himself of this strange lady's memory.
"Riiiiiight," he said and then, once he was far enough of way, turned around and sauntered away.
