Free, legal software download for good graphics?

I'm looking for a free download of a software (Must be legal) that I can use for making graphics and stuff. I want it to be a good one, with many features.

Suggestions? And please gimme reasons why. :]

Why?
- it's amazing.
- it's free (as you asked)
- it's just as good as photoshop, if you know how to use it
- it's easy to understand
- you can still use photoshop brushes AND files (so if you want to download a template for photoshop, you can still open it in GIMP)
- it's amazing
- using textures with it is so easy and addicting
- it's amazing?!?! ;o;

Seriously, I was really wary of GIMP at first because so many people diss it and it's a free program and free usually equals horrible, but I've had the opportunity to save up for photoshop for almost two years, now, and I wouldn't trade four hundred bucks for a name-brand program any day.

GIMP rules. Period.

I've heard paint.net is good as well, but gimp is my first choice of free open source software.

why not cracking adobe photoshop or illustrator and use it?

Exactly. Cracking also can create some issues with the programme and the computer. Believe me, I know from experience.

- Basic and helpful.
- Using brushes over there is very simple. c:
- Many simple ways to make your graphics look prefect.
- Able to cut or crop things out with a polygon tool.
- It's free & anti-virus. 8D
- easy, easy to understand.
- not complicated like photoshop, much much advancing unless you get used to it well.
- It may have a few features... rolleyes but, still easy and prefect for me to make good quality graphics. It also has features that Photoshop and other graphic programs don't have.

Recently Photoshop was popular & I had no idea how to get it for free. But, people kept complaining to me that it's worth or not worth your money. Recently, I had keygen Photoshop Elements AND IT SUCKS. FOR ME. LOL. XP So, recently my friend Julie had told me that Photofiltre had worked for her and it's free. So, I downloaded it and had no regrets with it so far. 8D haha.
