Lutfiya stalked the fluttering insect through the taller grasses. Each breath, each step was carefully measured as she desperately tried to be a silent, patient huntress. It was hard. Really Luti just wanted to pounce and chase after the beetle. Not like it would be much of a chase, it was so slow on the ground!
She finally gave in. With a leap the cub landed on...nothing. The beetle had hid on her again. That or it had flown away while she was distracted. Luti sighed and smacked at the ground. "Drat."
Still she grinned, it wasn't like she was really angry. It was just a bug after all. Luti's eyes closed as she imagined the type of true prey that she would be able to hunt one day. A shudder barely ran through her. Hunting for a Pad...her Pad.
"Enough of that." Luti shook her head. She was not going to be worrying about that today! It was going to be fine after all, she reminded herself. "Hey-" Pausing, the cub looked around. She definitely had wandered away from her litter mates during the 'chase.'

Mitra grinned like the Chesire as she snuck through the foliage. At first she'd been concerned that someone would catch her on one of these little 'expeditions', but she found that if she returned quick enough she could get by with it.
With her momma's taking a nap in the blooming sun and her siblings playing amongst themselves she found it was easier than usual. They expected her to be a 'good Banu' and stay back. Pfft. Suuurrreeee.
Mitra saw a familiar-ish pelt and looked over her shoulder before prancing over to the cub. Her Uncle's fur looked like that, so she had to be a cousin. "Hey, what'cha doin'? Did you escape too?" The way she said it you'd think she lived a horrid life. She was so flippant about everything, right down to her walk that it gave her a sharp edge.

Luti jumped in surprise at the sudden noise. "Oh!" She gasped and breathed in relief to see that it was just another cub. "Escape?" What did that cub mean? Was there something going on that they needed to escape from? "I don't understand."
But then Luti's eyes widened in excitement, "Ah! Wait a second! I've seen you before!" She giggled, "Are you a cousin?" She loved meeting family, especially when she wanted someone to play with.
"I'm Lutfiya!" She grinned, "Luti for short~"

Mitra smiled proudly. She was so sneaky! But she didn't want to talk 'bout that anymore so the little blue cub let it slide. "Uh-huh! I t'ink my daddy's your daddy's bro'der. Oooh, ooh! Looky~" She turned to the side and nodded to Luti's wide dorsal stripe with excitement. "We're da same!"
Family was the best kind of playmate. They weren't too far beneath you to really cut loose with. "Why did you make your name shorter? It's really pretty like it is." She stood up straighter and cocked her head to the side like some of the Banu she'd seen as she grinned. "I'm Mitra. What were you doing, Luti? Trying to catch bugs?" She stuck her tongue out. How gross!

"Oooh!" Luti jumped with excitement. If her daddy was her daddy's brother then they really were cousins! The dorsal stripe made her giggle, "We are we are!" Luti grinned as she looked over the blue cub, she had the dots under her eyes as well! Even cooler!
"Aww..." Luti flushed at the compliment, "It's pretty like Mitra, but long." She shrugged, "For family an' friends I thought that Luti was easier." She grinned, "So if they needs me Lutfiya takes a while ta yell."
"I'm not trying, Mitra." Replied Lutfiya proudly as she copied the look that Mitra was giving her. "I'm practicing. That one got lucky~" Still the cub flushed before asking, "What about you, Mitra?"

"I guess that makes sense." Still, she preferred Lutfiya because it made her sound more important, like a real Banu. She perked up at the compliment and bounced around to the cub's other side.
"Ooooh, your practicing? Can I practice with you? We could team up!" Genius! She mentally cheered herself. She lowered down into a pounce, blue eyes wide and eager. "Just like the big girls."

"Yep, yep." Luti grinned at the sense her nickname made. Though Mitra's opinion about her name made the cub think. Maybe when she was older, she would go by Lutfiya. But for now Luti definitely worked.
Luti giggled, "Sure, sure! I'd love ta!" She mirrored her cousin's movements and wiggled in a pounce position. "What should we hunt?" Her lilac eyes surveyed the area around them. Surely there would be something worthy of their time to practice on!

Across the area her dark blue eyes scanned until she saw it. The perfect thing. "There, that one!" Nodding excitedly, she crept closer to her target.
A rather large, colorful bird was preening itself on a low branch of the closest tree. It looked fat enough for a whole den, but Mitra had her sights held high. After all, why waste the effort going after a little thing when you could get the big one?
"What'cha think?"

Luti grinned and turned towards the prey. What a prey! The cub gasped as she took in the large bird. Did Mitra really think that it was possible? "That one?"
Luti's large lilac eyes stared at Mitra in surprise, "Are you sure?" She hissed back as softly as possible. Still something in her roared in response to the challenge.
It would be different from chasing bugs. The cub tilted her head as she sized up the bird. If they could catch that - just think of what the others would say! Suddenly she grinned at her cousin, "Let's do it!"

"That one." The blue Banu mirrored her cousin and side stepped her to step into the nearby bushes for coverage. "Think about it. If we take that one down, we could be the best Banu in the whole pride!"
Not only would their families be proud of them, but she could rub it in her sisters' faces. Oh, how sweet that reward would be. Her eyes glistened with fierce determination. "How do you think we should do it?"

"Could be?" Luti grinned, "Would be is more like it." She ducked down behind the bushes to follow Mitra's lead. They'd have to be really sneaky to surprise the bird before it took off. Unfortunately they couldn't fly and chase it through the skies after all.
"Sneak. One of us should sneak around behind it while the other one sneaks around the side near it's front." Luti nodded, "It's so big it probably needs to run to take off. We stop it from doin' that and it's ours."

Mitra nodded, then motioned with her head. "I'll take the back." Even at her tender age, she knew that she wasn't the most patient thing and that it would be more likely to see her fidgeting in the grass that her cousin.
She stuck her tongue out to the side and padded around until she was in position, raising one blue paw up to signal Luti.

Heart pounding Luti started in towards the bird. Luckily she was small even for a cub and could keep hidden by the bushes and grasses that surrounded their prey.
Her mind focused once she saw Mitra's signal and the lion cub dug her claws into the earth. She was going to be ready whether she liked it or not. One, Two, Three~
Luti waved her tail at her cousin as her own signal. As soon as Mitra startled the thing Luti was ready to intercept it before it got the chance to fly.

Mitra shook her toosh in the air as she waited, her breathing jagged with anticipation. Seconds from now they were going to have a fat, juicy bird, and boy, would her brothers be jealous!
She roared as loud, and powerfully as possible before charging. Her meek little mew startled the bird, causing it to flap before waddling towards the other cub. She kept her end of the chase up, closing in on it.
Then she noticed the shadows. "What, the-?" When she looked up, she saw a flock of birds and instantly flipped her ears back.

Lutfiya pushed against the ground as the bird waddled her way and latched onto it. It was hard and scary! Though barely off of the ground the cub felt like she was on a cliff.
Hunting was really tough business!
Luti growled weakly as she tried her best to keep on the flailing bird. Oh no it didn't! Mitra and her were gonna be proud hunters so they couldn't let it go! Of course by the time she did try to wring it's neck the flock of birds had arrived. Luti let out a startled yelp before disappearing beneath a cloud of feathers.
