Probably the cheapest AK varient that I know of. I hear alot of bad about these rifles but then again , I hear just as much good talk for them. I know to check for canted sights, check the magazine well to make sure there is little wobble.

Has anyone ever had any trigger time with a WASR 10? Feedback would be great.

I've shot two different WASR 10s and I loved both of them. The sights were fine on both, but one of them had an issue with magazines fitting properly. Some fit fine, others were a bear to get into the magazine well.

I've shot one; it was a fairly decent firearm. Didn't jam, to what I remember. Like most AKs in the price range, though, it comes with a short "Warsaw Pact" length stock, which is shorter than most firearms you may be used to. I, being one of the -nose to the charging handle n00bs- didn't care for that at all. It can be remedied with a recoil pad which would lengthen the LOP a little bit, but it was still a tad too short for my taste.

Also: a WASR-10 isn't your only choice for AKs in your price range. There's the AMD-65, for example. You could also just get a Saiga and convert it as you get the cash. Pre-converted Saiga's can be found for around $550-600. Check back on AIM Surplus often, they often have some pretty good deals. They were selling new 5.45 AKs for just $400 a week ago. AK prices recently lowered because someone's offering cheap converted saigas, but I forgot whom.

Would you be interested in getting an AK in 5.45x39mm? Surplus ammo for 5.45 ammo is about $0.12 a pop... CHEAP Wolf ammo, at prices before the ammo craze, was a little bit over twice that. Here's a Polish Tantal for only $430 (+FFL transfer). They're fairly decent rifles, or so I've heard.

What's your price range?
Only considering buying new?

Another thing to look for is a canted gas block

It's where the block is tilted left or right and you can feel and see it overlapping one side on the gas tube.

Before the whole hype WASRs used to be $250.
Or so I've heard.
There's a dealer selling WASRs for under $400, not much under, but lower than many others.

I have shot one and the bolt slaps like a b***h, its not very pleasant for just shooting at paper with but if you want to plink then by all means get one. However I would go with an AK74 variant ammo is dirt cheap... and that isn't a joke over a thousand round for just over 200? Yes please.

I'm not too pleased with my 336, (fires .35REM) but when you compare it to a WASR-10, I'd take a 336 chambered in .30-30 any day.

But I'd take an SKS over either of those.

My buddy has a Marlin 336 chambered in 30-30, he loves it.

Then again, I also have an SKS, looks like I'm ready to rock and roll.
