His toes flexed a bit, claws digging into the fresh earth as he awoke for the morning. His mother and father had left the cub, and he was glad for it. They had never understood him.. Ever. He was tired of them forever being his hinderance. He knew what he wanted. He wanted to be strong.
He yawned, his pink tongue curling out of his maw, over pearly white sharp teeth. [That were still rather small as he was still rather young.] His tail flicked back and forth, and his black pelt was already warm in this weather.
His pelt could be a curse, but he loved that it was a good color. Thats what made you great, your color, and your demon. Or so Mori had stated.. He was sure that she had said something like that. But maybe not.
Since the departure of his family, the male had been growing more anxious in his desires to join the pride.. To hear his demon voice just behind his mind. He could practically squeal with joy; that is, if he had been any other happy go lucky cub.

Paiya didn't need a demon, she was a demon, and at type she had the strangest of fantasies that maybe she was someone else's demon. Picking around in their head and giving them good ideas. It was all stupid, really, the prides and the togetherness. She played the act, walked the walk, slipped in and out of the pridelands with demon talk in tow.
But she wasn't made for social standing. Rhea knew it. She knew it. That little b***h of a lionness from the opposite side of the land knew it. It just didn't make sense that a group of lions dedicated to misery took such good care of one another. She supposed that's why there were slaves - to give them something to pick on when the reaches of their mind drove them nuts and even your demon was too much for you.
And Paiya didn't have to worry about color, but mostly she didn't have to worry about squeeling with joy. In fact, today she was in a rather irratable mood. She had been pacing along the borders for hours, her eyes teeming left and right until she finally stepped over the invisible boundary.
Her excuse was hunting. Hunting for lions to pick on, maybe. Her steps were quick, slinking, and she'd pause now and then to listen and watch. It was when she'd slipped around a rock outcropping not too far from the border that she spotted a youg cub, his teeth still sharp, seemingly enjoying himself in the morning sun.
Paiya decided she already didn't like him. "Hey," she called, her eyes staring off towards the creature of interest. "What do you think you're doing?" Maybe he'd turn and run; maybe he'd play the foolishly curious and hobble towards her.

He had not been paying attention. Strike One. Mori would be severely angry with him if she saw that he had just let the other female walk right up upon him. His ruby eyes looked into this females, and he realized they carried the same rubies within their skull.
She smelled, like Mori. Her scent, the smell of the pride members that she was around on a constant basis.
"Whats it to you?" He growled, raising his lip and standing a bit defensively. She had approached rather rudely, and he wondered if even demons were too evil to have any type of manners.
He had been doing anything but enjoying the sunshine. He wanted the moon. He preferred sleeping the day away, and waking into the night to see the lands as he truly should.
He could not help but be interested in her though, as he perked his ears. She was interesting..Either that, or it was her appeal of the pride. He wanted to be part of that pride. Mori had spoken to him of the ranks..And he had told her he wanted to be an Incubus.. He wanted to seek pleasure from his demon.
Of course, right now, he was much too young to think that way.

Paiya's only answer at first was the irratable flick of one ear. The whipping sound of her tail echoed shortly thereafter and she dug her nails into the dirt to finish off the slight display.
She took a step forwards, then veered to the right, her steps strong as she made a circle around him. Her nose was raised to the air, taking a whiff of what scent he might have given off and being both pleased and disgusted at what she found.
"You have quite the attitude, there, child," she answered eventually. Another snap of her tail.
"Would you like to repeat that?"

He wanted to be scared of her. In fact that was his first instinct within his bones. But he couldnt be. If he wanted this, if he wanted to be what he wanted..He needed to be wise and brave.
He puffed up his chest, and tried to keep his heart from beating too quickly.
"I asked, what it was to you. I mean, I was just standing here, and you barrell over and start fussing."
He did have an attitude, possibly inheriting it from his mothers side. She had been a b***h back in the day..Having been made..kind by the mate. His father who happened to be a lazy poor excuse for a male.
"Im Roth." He nodded.

She flexed the claws in her paws again as she paused, watching his front puff up in some attempt of bravery. Maybe he truly was brave. Brave or stupid. The end result was the same.
"Next time I'll do less fussing and more striking," she assured him, but as he gave her his name, she settled onto her haunches.
That was good. That was good enough for her. He'd given her a small piece of personal information; it was a trade.
"Paiya," she answered with a tone that had suddenly turned bemused. "Were you waiting for someone, Roth?" Parents perhaps? A stupid place to wait. "It isn't. . . a fun place to wait, is it?"

He relaxed when she sat down, and when she spoke of possible striking him, he gulped but forced himself to relax. He shook his head at her question, and flicked his tail back and forth. The fluff at the end dusting against the grasses.
"No, I am alone. I am being trained to find my inner demon. I am to join your pride as soon as I reach an old enough age." He spoke, trying to sound intellectual though the words were spoken in a still youthful voice of an adolescent, and not the brash tone of an adult.
"And I wouldnt say fun, no. The sun is much to hot at the moment, and Id prefer to be swimming or possibly even sleeping for that matter."
He noted her name, and nodded. Placing Paiya in his memory. He did not forget things. So her name was safe.

As lovely and well spoken as Roth's words were, their merit was lost upon Paiya. But there it was again, he had to walk the walk, talk the talk. Intellectualism was hardly appealing. Too much talking and too little got done. She'd heard it mentioned that words were an art; as was the way of getting one to submit from them. She never really did like 'art'.
"My pride?" There was a loud, bolstrous laugh after this at which point she tiptoed her way down until she was lying upon her stomach. Her feet stuck out behind her in a lazy sense, and she turned her eyes to the sun. "Well, I'm flattered really. But, no, not mine." Not yet. "But this is interesting."
Then he was waiting for. . .? She'd find out later. No need to pry too hard. Adolescents only stayed to be willing ofr so long. "Well, why don't you go for a swim, then? Nothing's stopping you, save for perhaps the threat of drowning. But I can play hero for a day." Maybe. Maybe she'd be more inclined to let him drown. But, whoever was training him was likely favourable towards him.
Actually, that was almost a bit scandalous. Paiya grinned with the idea, but then left it where it had been.

He snorted a bit, his eyes looking a bit miffed. He could not help but just..shake his head at part of what she said. He had no fear of drowning, but something in the females voice made him instantly fear it.
"Well, no not yours. But you live among them right? Dont you consider it your home?" He had not meant the pride was hers as in ownership. The male had merely meant that she lived within it, and that it was her home.
"Drowning? No, Id prefer to watch others. Ive been sitting out here, watching the lions as they go to and fro..I cant help myself. I want to learn."

"Yes," she agreed. Her head settled onto her front paws and she eyed him from underneath half-open lids. "It is home." Never had more true words been spoken.
He wanted to learn what exacltly? Her head reared back up, both ears forwards for just a moment before she relaxed her muscles again. "None of us can help ourselves," she admitted.
She was suddenly getting to her feet again, her tail swishing left and right as her ears wandered but her eyes remained on him. "And we don't have to hold back. But you are, right now. Fear, anger, words, desires. Every little bit that your demon is supposed to guide you on and destroy into little bits. But just remember, you're only powerful until someone moreso decides to bite you in the back."
She walked past him, as if making a point, turning to look. "And I bite, so give me room and I won't step on your tail, either." With a loud and very audible intake of air, she broke into a jog and made her way in a direction quite the opposite of the one she had come.

She spoke true words, as he thought deeply about what she meant.
He did find himself moving out of her way as she stepped beside him. Her comment about being bitten in the back, well he just needed to be sure she didnt have his back..Whether she met it would be her or not.
"Hmm..Youre right.." He nodded, and began flicking his tail back and forth. He was so deep in thought, that he had not noticed her taking off..Running away without a word.
"I suppose I-"
And he turned his head to see her, and noticed that she had dissappeared.
"Paiya?" He asked, looking around a bit.
He supposed that he should have been paying more attention. He wanted to learn more from her. She seemed to know how to survive on her own, even though she lived within the pride.
"I will talk to you again." He narrowed his eyes and sighed deeply.
