Conscience In The Palace

Since perverted slave boy posted a Role Play about vampire which is Modern Japanese Western Style, I will post this Ancient Chinese Japanese Role Play for myself too. Well, why chinese? Tang dynasty is set as the story background. Why? Because at the time, many Japanese Gakusei and Government Staffs visit China to learn about cultures and new words. That is how Kanji was invented. Compare to the other Role Play I posted last time and the others are all about young teens in school, saving the world that kind. What about trying to play an adult? Men having war, battling on the field while the women are fighting with their intelligence and beauty for power and love too in the palace. So here is the story and characters I made for the Role Play. I hope you guys feel and see the difference and will like it.

::Story::

Set in the latter years of the Tang Dynasty, China. Conscience In The Palace tells the story of palace maid Ho and her relations in the Imperial Palace, beginning with her experiences in the Imperial Household Bureau.

Cai is brought into the palace with her daughter, Ho, and their serving girl, Ling. As she comes from a very distinguished line of jewellery makers in the kingdom, she is assigned the task of making a beautiful headpiece in the shape of a phoenix, inlaid with precious stones and tails made from the feathers of exotic birds for the Empress Dowager. However, during a flower viewing outing, the phoenix headpiece worn by the Empress Dowager suddenly bleeds tears of blood. Taking this as a sign of bad luck, she throws it away and demands that Cai be punished. She dies as a result of the harsh beatings. Before she passes away, she tells Ho to always remember the significance of her name, "Speak good words, do good deeds, show good will". (Ho, means goodness in chinese.)


At the same time around Cai’s death, Yi, the young prince of Concubine Chen, meets the six years old Ho. He showed kindness to Ho by giving her some white flowers from Cai's favourite tree so she can take it to her dying mother. Later when he had to leave the palace without his mother, when he feigned mental illness as an excuse to escape the imminent death threat by the Empress Dowager, Ho gives him some sweet of lotus seed, to comfort him on the journey. Because of this, the young prince develops a good feeling for her.

The Imperial Household Bureau is responsible for managing and directing all household services to the Emperor and the Imperial family of the Tang Dynasty. It is made up of four departments, namely the Houses of Jewelery, Attire, Food, and Furnishing. Ho and Ling are introduced into the bureau in their childhood and are brought up as the disciples in the palace. The two girls are very diligent. Yuen, Head of the Jewels, and Suet, Head of Attire, are both very fond of Ho for she is a kind-hearted young girl and shows great capabilities in the decorative arts of jewellery and silk work. Both of them fight bitterly to have Ho in their departments. In the end, Ho is assigned to Department of Attire while, Ling is assigned to the Department of Jewellery.

Years later, Ho meets Hiyo, the palace scholar and chess teacher from Japan, where a secret love blossoms between them. The young prince Yi, now grown up, returns to the palace and becomes the Emperor after evading assassinations with the help of Ho and Hiyo. He promotes Hiyo as the Palace General because of his faithfulness. Ho later becomes the Head of the Jewel Department. Even though the Emperor has deep feeling for Ho and wants have her as his concubine, he decides to bury his feeling for her when he discovers that Hiyo and Ho love each other.
Ho and Ling continue to enjoy a very close friendship, treating each other as sisters and this provokes jealousy among other palace girl servants. Time and again some of them will try to get them both into trouble. However, Ho's honesty and kind attitude endears many powerful people in the palace to her and they always help her out. Whereas, Ling uses her cunning mind to get rid of her enemies. As time passed, Ling realises that to stop the bullying and to be able to survive in the palace she has to be someone powerful and respected. Therefore, she slowly works on a scheme to gain favour of the Empress Dowager Chen, Yi's mother. She was eventually chosen as one of the Yi's concubines. From there she works on a bigger scheme to get rid of all her competitors.

Background: In the beginning, she serves as Deputy Leader of Jewellery Proceedings. Her dedication and hard work are eventually recognized, and she is promoted to serve as Head of the same department. She is a self spoken, wise woman who never accuses anyone without proof. Throughtout the series, she is made Head of Furnishing Proceedings and Head of Embroidery Proceedings. She is in a feud with Suet because she accuses her of tampering with her food by adding an ingredient to which she was allergic. As a result of her sickness, she was not permitted to leave the palace with her lover, General Man. It is later revealed that she has a son with General Man.

Background: Suet starts out as Head of Embroidery Proceedings. She mistakes Yuen for sabotaging her many years ago, causing her permit to leave the palace to be revoked. As a result, she was unable to see her dying mother. This starts a feud between the two friends who have once sworn sisterhood. She always opposes Yuen. They eventually reconcile their differences. She is later promoted to be the Head of Palace Proceedings.

Background: The palace's official General and a Japanese warrior who follow his father come to study the great Tang Dysnasty. This role is assigned to him because of his loyalty to the emperor. He is skilled in martial arts, and even taught Yi several moves that save his life. He also saves Emperor Yi from the assassins sent by the previous emperor and the grand empress...

Background: Yi was a prince who has been chosen to become the emperor by the previous emperor’s servant, General Ma to become a puppet in order to rule the land temporarily. He is secretly in love with Ho but do not want to separate the two lovebirds after knowing Ho and Hiyo love each other. Instead of taking Ho as his concubine, he marry with Ling, Ho’s childhood sister. Despite himself being the puppet as he plan to eliminate General Ma with the help of Ho and Hiyo.

Background: The villain of this story. He was actually just a servant who serves tea of the previous emperor but now the Head of Army. After killing the emperor he serves, he promote Prince Yi to become the next ruler of Tang. He was wrong for thinking the prince has mental illness and totally angry about it after being cheated. He swear he will find his way to become the emperor himself as he said “If I am able to push you up skyhigh; I am also able to pull you down.”

Background: She is Prince Yi's mother. After her son become the Emperor, she become the Emress Doweger herself. Assisting her son to eliminate the evil General Ma. She was wrong believing in Concubine Ri is a nice person like Ri's sister, Concubine De. And end up being poisoned and killed by Concubine Ri.

Background: Yin enters the palace and marry the emperor before Concubine Ri. Her adoptive father is General Ma and was a very stubborn lady who always bully Ri back in the palace. After her mother died being murdered in the palace. She realize it was her stubborn the reason why her mother was killed and started to be nice to every people around her. Didn't notice her adoptive father was just using her as a puppet after she has the emperor's baby, she died before giving birth to him or her, murdered by Concubine Ri.

She eventually marries Emperor Yi and becomes his concubine. She continuously schemes to destroy her competitors.

Background: Ho is a kind-hearted maid who took her mother and father's teachings to heart. Her parents taught her to speak kind words, do good deeds, and bear a kind heart. She always cares for and helps everyone in the palace to the best of her abilities. She is very close with Ling, with whom she has sworn sisterhood. She is the love interest of both Hiyo and Emperor Yi. Ho started her service in the Department of Embroidery, but was eventually promoted to be the Head of Jewellery Proceedings. She was later chosen as Yi's concubines after secretly pregnant for Hiyo.
