Nywele lay on a rock taking in the sun as Amani wished him out of the den so she may get to work. Sometimes he worried that she thought him a fool, but piratical thought was something she was going to have to teach this god.
He stroked a claw through his mane while he thought of his relationship with Amani. He almost felt like he would be happy with just her, but he did not want her to suffer either. She had to do all the work herself leaving less time to spend with him. What was he to do though, oh it would all fall into place. The god or goddess of fortune had seen it fit to smile upon him so far why should it change now.
In the mean time Nywele found himself feeling bored. What was a god to do? Perhaps he could go meet some of the pads? And yet he felt nervous to meet them for some reason, he wanted to meet all of their traditions perfectly and he was not sure that he could.

Suri had spent the morning in a near by field of flowers. It was one of her favourite places in the pride lands and as far as she was aware not frowned upon by her parents. Whether or not her parents knew was another story.
Today she was prancing home with three of her favourite flowers held gently between her teeth. She'd made a habit of bringing home sweet smelling things when she could. She liked to think that the small gifts pleased her mother and that in the future her arrangements would also please her Pad.
She was hardly a shadow of the lioness she'd grow to be. Her foot steps were still clumsy though she fancied them to be as smooth as the most graceful of lionesses. She held her head too high, making her look proud in a way that only a young lioness could get away with. As time would went on she'd better conform to the beauty she valued most in her peers. For now though, she was young and reckless.
When she spotted the strange male she forgot her manners and stopped to stare. She'd seen males with impressive manes before but the one this fellow sported was like nothing she'd ever seen. She glanced around, as if scared someone was watching, and then scurried to find something to hide behind. She wasn't sure if he'd seen her but she hoped not. She wanted to look at the mane a little longer, preferably without getting into trouble.

Nywele huffed suddenly placing his head on his paws. What else was he to do, there really didn't seem to be anyone to talk to. Everyone seemed busy with what ever they were doing, but perhaps Nywele was not trying hard enough.......wait there was that feeling again! Since he had joined this pride, he had felt like someone was always watching him. Sometimes he knew it was his paranoia, but most of the time there was someone watching him.
Nywele stood and tried to act like he wasn't looking around, but he was curious to know if there really was someone about. If there was they were hiding will he couldn't see them. He sat back down and looked about feeling a little crazy, he just needed to get used to be around other lions all the time was all. "Hmp..." Nywele huffed raising a brow.

She set her flowers carefully on the ground before leaning out from behind her rock to stare at the impressive fellow.
As children tend to do she assumed her hiding spot made her invisible. Even if it didn't, she figured that if she held perfectly still she'd go unnoticed anyways. It didn't matter that this set of beliefs had never really worked when put into practice.
His mane was... fantastic. It was full of thick braids and looked to be incredibly soft. She wanted to run a paw through it... no she wanted to curl up and have a nap in it. A mane like that must make for one extreemly comfortable bed.
Forgetting about hiding for the moment, she leaned out a bit further.

Alright that time there was no imagination to it. He heard something move and it was near by, but what was it and where? Again Nywele tried to act as though he were paying no attention to his surroundings, but his eyes were panning from left to right. Until...yes he saw the figure of a lioness leaning out to get a better look. What was it with cubs and staring at him from a distance? Well she seemed pretty sure she was well hidden and he just couldn't resist playing a little joke. Suddenly the god vanished into thin air appearing just behind Suri. He said not a word but simply let his shadow fall over her.

She was so shocked at his disappearance that the massive form looming large behind her and the shadow it cast didn't even register in her young brain for a few long moments. In those moments she was sure she'd gone mad. Lost it... Maybe one of the flowers she'd bitten from their stem that morning had been the kind she'd heard one of the Banu speak of that made you see things.
When she did notice the shadow she turned slowly. At that point the only thing more terrifying then seeing a monster behind her was her father finding out that she'd snuck out and stopped to stare at a strange male.
Seeing the god standing behind her was the last thing she expected and should have been enough to make her scream. If her fear of being caught hadn't been the greater fear she just may have. She couldn't stop herself though, from tensing up and making every bit of fluff on her body stand straight out.
"Eeek..." she whimpered under her breath.

Nywele chuckled and smiled at the little cub letting her know he didn't mean her any harm. "You shouldn't spy on people you know." He said moving back towards his sunning rock. He sat down and looked back to the cub. "Is there something I could help you with little one?" He asked running a claw through his mane.

His voice was soothing and she found herself calming fairly easily. Soon all her fur was once again smooth against her back.
"Pardon me but I've never seen a lion with such an impressive mane before," she murmured, trying to be as polite as possible in front of the stranger. "It looks so soft... and beautiful. And pardon but," she glanced behind her, "how did you do it?"

Nywele laughed again at the cubs reply. "No pardon necessary little one. "I was...." Nywele paused he couldn't really remember if he had been born or just came to be so it was sometimes hard to explain. "Born with it, my mane is naturally perfect. I am the god of manes after all." Nywele ran a claw through his mane out of habit.

Her eyes widened to a comic size and she looked him over. That explained it. That explained all of it. Was she blind? she wondered. Why hadn't she seen it before? That's why his mane was so beautiful. That's how he'd done his vanishing act.
She'd always heard about the gods from her elders but it was the stuff of stories. Something that happened to those far braver and stronger then herself. It happened to the lions of legend... She never thought she'd come face to face with one. If she did she figured it wouldn't be until she was much older and it certainly wouldn't be so close to home.
He buried his claw in his mane again and she felt her cheeks grow warm. She'd only just been dreaming of napping in the mane of a god... and she still wanted too.
She glanced back toward him, then opened her mouth, not really sure of what she was going to say until she said it.
"Can I touch it? I mean, may I touch your mane?"

Nywele let out a loud laugh, he couldn't help it. Everyone always wanted to touch his mane and he found it quite amusing.
"Of course, as long as your paws are clean.Oh, and careful not to fall into my mane you might get lost." Nywele said the last part jokingly. He fluttered his barley visible wings while waiting for the cub to check her paws.

She complied right away, lifting her paws one at a time and cleaning off the dust as best she could. When he mentioned falling into his mane she froze, then slowly lifted her head to stare at him. She stayed that way, mouth agape and eyes wide, for a few long moments before asking.
"Has that happened?"

Nywele laughed deeply his mane bouncing with his laughter. After he stopped he shook his head.
"No, but there is always a first time. But I'm sure you won't get lost if you do fall in. I know my mane well and I'm sure I would notice if something was in it."
