Catching sight of the smile on her new friend’s features only made Suha’s grin grow wider. An adventure. She’d always wanted to go on an adventure! She just couldn’t get it out of her head now. Finally, finally, finally she was going to get to have one! Upset about her aunt’s Pad, dismay in her failed efforts to tell a story, vanished like a pebble in the lake. She practically glowed as she pranced into place beside Rahim, barely remembering rather belatedly to keep a step behind him. He was leading after all.
His words made her nervous, but that was part of the point, wasn’t it? To have an adventure meant maybe finding trouble too. Or danger. It was why she’d never dared to go by herself. But going with Rahim…she’d be much safer with him. He was so smart, he’d figure out anything that happened no problem. She was positive.
“I wonder what they’re like?” she babbled excitedly, her soft blue eyes bright with anticipation, “I never really thought about how to tell where they are. My cousin said I was starting to get too close to them once, but I don’t really remember. I didn’t see anything different, I was just looking at some flowers I found. Maybe I should’ve asked him how he knew. I didn’t think of it then though…”
If Rahim hadn’t been to the borders either then how would they even know when they got there? Well…maybe Rahim would know. She just avoided them by sticking close to places she’d already been. Ilyas had warned her that it was bad to go to the borders, that her dad might be mad at her. But she wasn’t going alone, she was with Rahim. And it wasn’t like they were planning on crossing the borders. There couldn’t be anything wrong with just looking at them, right?

Rahim quickly fell in to place, confidently guiding Suha east. He himself wasn't entirely sure where they were going, but from where he'd been this direction seemed as good as any. He'd never really traveled far out alone, and often stuck closer to the heart of the pride. But today he was with Suha and they would have a great adventure with each other.
Despite his confidence, the olive coated male did keep alert. His ears twitched here and there and he made sure to kee on guard. Not only did he want to avoid any older banu or pads who might try to ruin their fun, but any of his siblings as well. He knew they were safe inside the borders but that didn't mean the adults didn't like to discourage them from scopoing them out.
Still . . . Rahim was confident. Perhaps overly so. Though he was only a little older than Suha, he felt stronger. Besides, his mane was starting to come in (or so he pretended) and he felt bigger. . So of course he could take on anything that came their way. He might not be as tough as his brothers, but he was very clever.
Listening quietly to the talkative Suha, Rahim smiled and gave a shake of his head. "Oh, I know we'll know when we get there. It might be a long walk though, so if you get tired just say so." He'd be considerate to Suha. . . . She was a banu, after all, and his friend. His best friend. Rahim didn't want to wear her out or cause her grief. . . .
Besides, hadn't his mother said if he treated his banu nicely he'd be the best EVER!? Even though Suha wasn't technically his, while in his care at the moment he could at least pretend. He could practice being a pad around her. . . "So do you think I'll make a good pad someday?" It came out of the blue, and it almost seemed to startle him. Still, he was young yet and with Suha being a banu, he wanted to know her thoughts on the matter. It wasn't bad asking about these things. . . he knew he'd be a good pad, but . . .well. . . might as well see what she thought! "You can be honest though." He added with a nod. Rahim didn't want her to lie just because she was beneath him. . . No no, he wanted her to be completely and utterly truthful. It was important to know how she felt. . .
Of course part of him wondered if it were any other banu if he'd ask the same thing. Probably not. Suha was . . .special.

She had very little idea of where they were going exactly, but Rahim seemed to know quite well. His confidence was soothing, and any tiny bit of nerves she might have still had were easily comforted by how self-assured he seemed to be. They were still in the pridelands after all, and Rahim said that he would know when they got to the borders. So she didn’t have to worry. Suha trusted Rahim, they might have only met once or twice, but he’d never steered her wrong before. If anything, he only made her feel better. Happier, and maybe just a little uncertain. But only because she wanted to make a good impression on him! That was fading too now though, he didn’t seem bothered when she wanted to share an idea. She’d been scared she wasn’t being a good Banu, but Rahim said he liked to talk to her.
Suha gaped at him when he asked his question. “Of course you will!” she gasped, apparently quite surprised that he’d be worried about that. Rahim was wonderful. He’d make the best Pad ever, well, maybe except for her daddy. But her daddy was the best. No one, not anyone, could ever compare to him. But Rahim might come awfully close…
“You’re ever so smart, and you don’t seem to mind if I have something to say. You listened to me earlier when I was upset, and then you made me feel better instead of just telling me to be quiet. And you’re fun to be with. And brave. I’ve never been on an adventure before…’cause…I was scared to go by myself,” the banu admitted shyly. “Thank you for taking me with you!” she added brightly, moving to nudge her head lightly against his shoulder as they walked. She didn’t feel tired at all, but it made her feel all warm and fuzzy inside to know he was thinking about her when he told her to say if she wanted to take a break or something. She felt so energetic right now, going on an adventure with Rahim, she could have walked forever and not been tired if he was there!
“…do…do you think I’m an okay Banu?” she asked timidly after a moment. She did try to be good. She knew she made some mistakes, like talking without being invited to or making a mess of herself when she wasn’t paying attention. But she did try. Her daddy didn’t seem to get upset about it, but somehow it seemed to matter what Rahim thought… maybe just about as much as her daddy. Maybe.

Rahim walked with his friend, falling quiet as he guided them towards unfamiliar territory. He honestly didn't know the outskirts very well, but he was sure he'd be able to tell as soon as they arrived. His cubby imagination was already thinking of all the wild possibilities they might encounter - from rogues to stray banu or even rogue cubs! They were always told to stay away from the borders, so that meant that something special and awesome just had to happen.
Suha and he would have some great adventures, thank you very much. The first of many if Rahim had his way.
Still, his ears turned this way and that as they walked, one half-listening to everything she said and the other half keeping an ear out for any sort of danger. It was funny that Suha mentioned he was a good banu because he listened to her, because he was able to make her feel better. It almost went paw-in-paw with what his mother had told him about the flowers in her bed. . . . That if he treated all banu in such a manner, he'd be the very best ever.
And Rahim had already vowed he would have the largest harem ever. Or at least one that might rival that kings. Though there was a darker curiosity in the lad, a curiosity that made him wonder what a banu would do if he was less kind, less generous. Mmm, of course, Suha would never recieve any sort of treatment that was less than kind. . . . but there were other banu out there. Something to think about, at least.
"Oh, you're welcome," he added with a small smile. "I'm glad for the company, especially since you're not part of my family. And I don't think you're an okay Banu," he began gravely. "I think you're the best banu that I've met. Well, at least outside of Mom," he admitted sheepishly, his pride for Ukoo flaring ever so slightly. "I like it that you talk and you actually are smart and have interesting things to say. You're not boring or obnoxious like some banu out there. You're . . . you're just perfect I think." And that was the truth. Honestly he compared all the other girls, including his sisters, after Suha's make and model. . . .
None of them really compared. Deciding to return the friendly gesture, as she had rubbed his head against his shoulder, the little cub paused in a step and butted his own head and cheek against her own. A rare sign for the usually quiet and stoic cub. "I think you're my best friend, you know." He admitted with a smile.
And there was nothing wrong with that. Not . . .really. So what if she was a banu! Rahim had always had a soft spot for the ladies, after all.

Suha ducked her head with a shy smile that she wasn’t sure she quite understood when he said he was glad of the company. She loved his company too! She wanted to spend more time with him, lots and lots more! Almost all the time. Except for the time when she was with daddy. That was daddy-time. It was very important. But the other time, the time that was free, that could be Rahim time! That would be fun…oh, but wait. She also needed to see Afsar, she promised they were friends. And Jinan, she seemed so lonely somehow. She was funny-looking too, kinda skinny with longish legs, but it looked nice on her. Fast. Like Mi’rage!
But her cheerful thoughts were interrupted by his words. Her ears went low when he said he didn’t think she was an okay Banu. Meekly, anxiously, she looked over at him, wondering what it was she did so wrong when he said he thought she was great.
“…really?” she asked, not quite able to believe it. She didn’t think she was that smart, but she was glad he didn’t mind her talking. Sometimes her mouth didn’t stop when her head thought it might be a good idea. “Oh, thank you!” she squealed, her pawsteps dancing for a few moments as she moved beside him, giddy with joy.
He thought she was okay. More than okay. He liked her.
She was his best friend.
“You’re my best friend too,” the little Banu assured him eagerly, “I like being with you best. Except for daddy,” she amended sheepishly. But, of course, as everyone surely must know, her daddy was the best of the bestest ever. Surely Rahim would understand. But she wanted to be honest with him. Wanted him to know that she really, truly, honestly did like him! So very very much!
Anwar heard voices below, and paused to look down. It was a brother. A brother and that Banu he’d met, Suha, the one who’d told him all about that strange Kajira he couldn’t seem to find anything about. He frowned, claws kneading gently against the bark as he thought. They were getting near the boarders. He’d seen a patrol go by, Zarha’s father if he wasn’t mistaken, only a few…hours…or so…ago.
The cub huffed in annoyance, shifting his gaze from the approaching pair to the ground below. A bit far below. Usually he was more cautious then this. Thought things through further. He’d wanted to know how birds saw things, and once he’d gotten to the first branch, curiosity took hold. If he got high enough, perhaps he would be able to see further. See things he hadn’t seen before, find a new place. He had promised Obi he’d find someplace fun to take that girl that he seemed to like so much.
But now he was slightly stuck. His claws didn’t work if he faced the bottom, they were curved the wrong way. And he didn’t like the idea of climbing without watching where he was going. Such a foolish predicament. He dearly hoped that the two others wouldn’t see him trying to get down. Besides, what were they doing so far out here together? It was certainly an interesting question- ouch!
The dark cub scrabbled furiously at the branch he’d managed to climb down to primarily using gravity and his belly. Drawing a sore, squeaky breath, he dragged himself onto it to look about again. Actually, the ground was close enough to jump to now. Much much better. Tensing, and wincing slightly, he sprang down…down…further than it looked…
Now his feet hurt too. They didn’t feel badly hurt, just…sore. Stung a lot. Ow. Limping ever so slightly, he set off for home…on a course that would just happen to intersect with his brother’s. He wanted to know what Rahim was doing all the way out here with Suha…it wouldn’t be long until he was spotted. And he wanted to be. Wanted to see how Rahim would react to seeing someone else, way out here…

There was a thump, and a flash of something. Rahim hadn't been paying much attention to the trees, his focus primarily being Suha. He was trying to keep his entire being alert, but unfortunately he wasn't very great at multi-tasking. Still, the movement of the branch his sibling had been on, plus the thud of something hitting the earth was enough for him to instantly become protective.
"Someone's here," He added, a little growl entering his throat. Instantly he took a few steps ahead of Suha, puffing out his chest and standing as tall as he could. The mane on his neck stood on edge as he bristeled defensively, his little heart racing from both uncertainty and a need to keep Suha safe.
She was his best-friend and he wouldn't let anything happen to her. His mind was already coming up with all sorts of possiblities - from leopards to cheetahs to bad tempered warthogs! (Who cared if it was in a tree. . .whatever it was was on the ground now which meant it could be approaching.)
His ears heard the sound of something in the tall grasses before them and Rahim prepared the biggest growl he could muster. "Who's out there?!?" He demanded, but just as the words slipped his lips, he caught sight of their enemy.
It was olive colored. It was striped.
It was . . " ANWAR!" He roared out his irritation, though it was more of a whine anything. His ears flattened in annoyance, and his chest deflated. Hmph. "It's OK Suha. . it's just my stupid brother," he grumbled, red eyes turning back to his sibling. So much for his proud moment of fearlessness and bravery. "What are you doing here anyway? You know you shouldn't be here by yourself . . ." While he was protective of Suha, he also felt it his duty to protect his siblings. Anwar being one of them, unfortunately enough.

Suha's fur fluffed up in alarm, at Rahim's words. Someone was here? Or something? With a tiny little squeak, she pressed closer to Rahim, glad he was there but still suddenly wishing for her daddy all the same.
She wanted an adveture, but this one might have been too much for her! She'd changed her mind, she wanted to play somewhere nice and safe with Rahim, someplace with grownups to make sure they didn't get eaten by wild Firekin or Sheetahs or...Anwar?
"H-hi..." she squeaked, ears flattening with embarrassment as she scooted a little ways away from where she'd pressed against her friend's flank. Just because she'd been frightened didn't mean she wanted everyone to know!
"Hello Brother, Banu Suha," Anwar said polietly, his tone a bit vauge. "Wasn't expecting anyone else to be out here." The cub shrugged, watching the pale little Banu and his only elder brother from the corner of his crimson eye. "I was just looking around. What are you doing out here?" the olive colored cub asked. It was a fair question after all. He was clearly out here first after all, if anyone should have been whining at the interruption... ah well.
"Pad Vu or Pad Nav might be coming around soon," he added casually, stretching lightly and trying not to wince at the sore ache in his paws. That had not been a good idea, not at all. But everything was working still. "So if you two were hoping to be alone, here isn't the place for it." And with that, he moved to limp past them, heading back for the pride's lands...and the lake to dabble his sore feet in.

((I think we're getting close to a wrap. Want to start a second RP here soon? n.n; Sorry for the delay. . some RL/Gaia issues ate me.))
Part of Rahim was glad it was only his brother. He wasn't entirely sure what he would have done if it had been a rogue lion looking to snack on tasty cubs. . . or something even worse. Of course he would have defended Suha, she was under his care right now and she was his bestest-friend. But . . . . it occurred to him that he was still awfully small, and one bite was all it would take to be the end of them both.
Pushing such thoughts of weakness out of mind, with Anwar at least Rahim understood he could always best him. His brother thought he was all that, but Rahim was still the oldest and strongest and Anwar would never be considered a threat. Giving his coat a small shake, he kept his nose crinkled in distaste as his brother seemed to disregard the pair.
"We're just looking around too, thank you very much." Aw man. And now some older pad's were going to show up and spoil their fun. Not that, he noticed, there was really anything extraordinary about the borders anyway. Just grass and a few trees and openness. A whole lot of nothing.
Hmph.
"I'm not worried about Pad Vu or Pad Nav," he added, puffing out his chest and giving his tail a flick. Not that he figured his brother would be worried or concerned, but he wanted to be sure the whole world knew he wasn't afraid or weak. The olive coloured lion didn't bother responding further to Anwar and instead gave a sigh and looked over at Suha.
It was hard to ignore his disappointment. "I guess we're here. . . though it doesn't look any more interesting," he added with slight resignation. Ugh. So much for his great idea. All they found was his stupid brother . . . .not cool. Furthermore, while he wasn't really afraid of Vu or Nav, it didn't irritate him that they might get interrupted by grown ups. And then they'd get in trouble, and if Suha got in trouble than that would be the worst. What if she got mad and wouldn't want to hang out anymore?
"I guess we should head back though, don't you think?" He added softly. "Just to stay out of trouble anyway. Even if the older Pad's don't show up, I wouldn't put it past Anwar to tattle on me." Hmph. His brother would do something like that, wouldn't he? Yes, Rahim loved all his siblings (some more grudgingly than others) but love didn't entirely mean trust. Especially when it came to Anwar.

Suha was very glad it was only Anwar. She kind of liked him, he was curious about her stories. Or well, the story her dad told her that she was trying to practice and imitate to be just like him. But still, Anwar had listened. He'd said it was interesting. So she knew she could retell a story pretty well. It was making up her own that was no good.
She was just no good...
...but Rahim didn't seem to mind.
"I know you wouldn't be scared," she said, butting her head lightly against his shoulder as he puffed out his chest. Anwar was already mostly gone, he wouldn't see. And even if he did, what was he going to say? That she and Rahim were playing? She knew Anwar played with Zarha, because she played with Zarha sometimes. And Afsar. They were Pad Vu's daughters both, she knew that much.
"Well..." she sighed when he said he supposed they were here, "I always sort of wondered what it was like. Now I know." Even if it had been more exciting not to know. Oh well. "I would never have been brave enough to come all by myself," Suha added, smiling up at her friend. He was a bit older than she was, so big and strong, even if he was still a cub like her. "Thank you for taking me, you're the bestest. But...maybe we should head back now. Just in case?"
She really didn't want to get into trouble. She hated when her daddy was disappointed in her. But maybe she and Rahim could play something else! That would be lots and lots of fun!
((Yes, it does seem about finished. And yus, we can have her admiring his mane, though if we wait much longer he's going to be an adol XD She's finally a juve now at least, but now she's waaay behind him because he's due to grow again >.> ))
