Rowtag was having one of his low days, unusual for a lion who usually kept ploughing onwards without thinking too much. And the reason for his low day? Well…it was a female. To be more precise, it was Zii’moto. And the problem was both simple and complicated. He loved her. Really loved her. His childhood crush and romance had developed into so much more. He hated being apart from her, hated being aloof and trying his best not to fall for her. But she only needed to look at him and he felt his heart grow warm, be drawn towards her. His heart cried and wept to be with her.
But his head said no.
His trying had failed, for he had, indeed, fallen for the white-pelted Firekin with the eyes of liquid fire.
He lay in the shade on his stomach, sphinx-like in posture, his eyes half-closed in thought. He was deeply troubled and it showed in the lines across his brow. He appeared, somehow, so much older than his rather young years – being new to adulthood.
It didn’t seem to matter how much thinking he did, however. There was no way out of this for him. No way at all and his self-loathing was growing to heavy a burden to bear. Rowtag wasn’t sure how long he could keep this going for. After another moment, growing irritated at himself and his situation, he stood and moved out across the sand, his movements quick and angry.
He thought back to days outside of these lands, in the pride where his mother had been a queen and he a prince. He thought of his conversations with Rap – the orange-pelted Firekin. He hadn’t liked Rap and certainly didn’t like him now. But Rowtag had been young and foolish. He had wanted to do something grand. Something that would see his name in lights of fame. What better way to attack a pride who thought themselves so indestructible? Defending the pride of his family and helping Rap take revenge on his mother’s death. He had agreed – stupidly – to go along with it, agreeing to infiltrate the pride and pounce once he was old enough and trained enough. He had been a good actor but he had not expected to fall in love.
His heart was no in regaining pride for those who were thrown for the lands and he cared little for Rap’s own motives. His childhood dream of wanting to become an infamous Firekin was long gone. He had a place here and…he had Zii.
But it didn’t matter now. None of that mattered. Even if Rap came and he told him that he wasn’t interested anymore, Rap would tell all, would drag him in deeper. Zii would find out and hate him. His heart pounded at the realisation and he paused, shaking his head – suddenly feeling dizzy.
How long had he left here in these lands? When would Rap come to initiate the plan? Would he ever come? Could he bear to wait and find out? No. Rap would come. And when he did, Rowtag would be dragged into his plans whether he liked it or not. But wait, what evidence did Rap have? None! None at all! Perhaps…perhaps he could convince Rap to let old quarrels lie. Or…if not…maybe he could fight and kill the orange lion himself.
Yes. Perhaps that would be the best idea of all.

Zii had thought she had ruined it that night. Since she let slip her true feelings for the male, he had changed. She had noticed it. He always seemed so restless these days and she seriously almost regretted tell him. They had slept side by side that night but... she couldn't... no wouldn't do it again. She was so confused.
She had spilled all her fears and worries to her best friend Smeagol, whom she found in the sands. It was ironic, how much they matched, being that Smeagol was mostly white with a little yellow on her head. A perfect match.
Zii had left Smeagol at the dens to play with the cubs, it was too hot for her out here today while Zii did her guarding. She had been out covering someone elses shift as that they were not feeling well today, so she was pretty tired. She hadn't seen anything suspicious today really... so it was an easy day.
She padded back towards her family, whom she hadn't really moved on from yet... but the budding romance between Azar and her pheonix male, really bummed Zii out... because things were sort of awkward. She padded her way back to the prides main area to go visit her brothers children.

He moved on again, suddenly seeming a little happier now that he had come to a conclusion. It seemed a full proof plan. He was used to fighting on the shifting sands, used to the heat. Rap would not. Rap would be weary from travel and he would not expect what was to come. He'd be dead before he knew it and then Rowtag could continue on with life as normal.
He could tell Zii'moto how he felt about her.
Having that plan took the edge off of his mood, but now he had to get to training. To make sure that he was capable of fighting an enraged Firekin probably the same build as he. He needed tactics that the other would not expect and he couldn't just leap into his rage and fight with his anger. Not this time, no.
So lost in thought was he, that he didn't even notice that Ziimoto had come into sight.

However Zii and quickly noticed him. She caught caught his movement out of the corner of her eye and had quickly zoomed in on his figure. She watched him, her heart beat quick in her chest but she was afraid-no... nervous perhaps. She watched him walk, he seemed to be a pleasant mood, or something...
She watched him, a soft look to her as he grew closer. Finally, when she felt it was time to announce her presence. "Hello Rowtag." She said, sitting with her white tail wrapped around her paws and her golden eyes gazing at him. Though her expression was a bit unreadable. She still felt sort of strange about how things ended the last they met.

He jolted at the sound of her voice, frightened at how he had not noticed her approached and frightened because it hurt his heart so to look at her. She was growing beautiful, he realised as he looked up at her, sleek and proud and fire-white against the blaze of the desert all about her.
His heart quickened, too.
And yet, now that he had made his decision to kill Rap and be done with this plot of vengeance and pride, he had to admit he felt happier with his whole life prospectives.
"Zii!" He exclaimed. "Sorry...I was...completely lost lost in my own thoughts." He paused, glanced about nervously. They hadn't had a fight or anything of the sort, but things had been awkward between them, especially since she had told him her feelings and he'd been unable to say them back - because of the guilt of what he might end up doing. But that was all okay now, right?
"Actually...you couldn't have appeared at a better time. I think...I think I've arrived at a good place today." He meant mentally, of course, but didn't elaborate on that. Instead he moved closer to her, pausing perhaps a couple of strides away.
"Zii...I owe you...I owe you a huge apology." An apology was a rare thing from this fiery lion. But it was a fact that Zii'moto was the only female - only living thing!! - that he treated with respect and genuinely cared about. To everyone else he was a complete a**. But he didn't care what others thought of him. "There's...been a lot of stuff going on in my head recently and...well...I've not been myself." Heh...when had he ever been himself? Perhaps never. Perhaps not even now.

Zii watched him move closer to her and felt as though the wind was slowly being sucked out of her chest. She had heard that Rowtag was not the nicest of lions around but he had been nice to her, the colorless modest one who lacked the flames that burned inside the firekin. Soft and sweet and kind. "We all are guilty of our own thoughts every once and a while." She said softly, the tip of her tail twitching.
She observed him, strong and serene, absolutely magnificent. She licked her lips and averted her eyes for a moment, to concentrate on the horizon. "A good place? The simo?" She asked, a slight chuckle escaping her lips. Was she teasing him?
She lifted her head and listened to him. "Apology... there's no need to apologize... nothing to be sorry about..." She said softly, knowing what he was talking about the moment it escaped his lips. She cast her gaze to the side, her eyes half lidded.

He smiled, but it was a sort of strained smile. The Simo? A good place? Was it? As a youngster he hadn't thought so...but now he had to admit that it was growing on him. It wasn't where he had been born and he was no longer a prince, but...but he loved the sand and Zii was here and he loved her more than anything.
"Well, whether an apology is needed or not, I'll still give you one." He shook his head. "I think too much. Think myself into circles. Its weird. I never thought I was much one for thinking. Leaping into action, striking out, but never hesitating. Its weird..." He shook his head. "But nevermind that, it's all sorted now. I know what I'm going to do."
He paused, blinked and moved towards her. "Anyway. What we spoke about before. What you said to me. I can finally say it back." He lifted his muzzle towards her.
"I love you, Zii'moto."

Zii smiled that smile that was so different from the others. She chuckled. "now now Rowtag, there is nothing wrong with thinking. It makes you different from the others... some of them don't think enough." She chuckled again. She watched him come closer and her yellow eyes glanced sideways coyly. When he brought up what was last discussed between them, she was a bit hesitant to know what he was going to say.
She wasn't excepting those words really.
She looked up at him with a very surprised look upon her pale face. "W-w-..." She couldn't speak as the redness rose to her cheeks. "R-really? You do... are you sure?" She asked, not wanting him to just be saying this just to make her feel better. "Rowtag... I thought... that when I told you... you didn't."

Sometimes he wished he didn't think at all. Where was the impulsive youth he had once been? He wanted it back. He'd never felt so concerned and lost before when he just struck without another thought. But now...now...
She was so pretty when she looked surprised and he could not help but smile at her expression. But he sobered a little as she spoke up, hating himself for not being able to say it when it had mattered most. He didn't want her to doubt it because it was the truth. It was!
"Completely, sure, Zii. I wanted to tell you that day. I did. But I...well, I was afraid. I didn't think this would happen to me. I thought I would hate it here in these lands. I thought I would leave as soon as I was old enough to care for myself. But...everything changed when I met you. Everything."

Zii knew that Rowtag had hated the Simo at some point and sometimes she had hoped she had changed his mind. And perhaps she did. She smiled briefly. "You so badly wanted to hate this place but turns out-" she stood and went to him, rubbing her head against him affectionately. "-I needed you in these lands with me... I knew the moment I saw you as a child that you were special... and special to me... someone I had to hold onto." She said softly, her golden eyes shut against his mane.
"Oh Rowtag. I am so glad to hear-that you feel the same way as me... I wasn't sure what I was going to do if it was one sided... I'd just-just... I don't know." She chuckled. "And I don't care if Azar doesn't like you... I don't care if my parents don't either... everyone can hate you but me... " She sighed.
