Aulii'Naia padded back from the borders edge, a flower tucked behind her ear and one clutched in her mouth. The one behind her ear was a light pink and the one in her mouth a light blue. She had found a wonderful batch of them not far from the border, which meant she had still been in pride territory, and therefore couldn't get in trouble. It probably wasn't a good idea to be near the pridal borders, she knew, but she didn't mind. It was fun, and she never knew what she would find out there. The white and blue juve smiled around the flower, pausing for a short break beneath one of the many trees of the forest.

Chiyo had been watching Aulii for some time now, laying on the branch of a tree…she had to make sure the unsuspecting cub didn’t do anything bad like consort with unworthy creatures! Chiyo had decided in her head that since her family ruled over the pride, that she should make sure everyone behaved. Of course, there is only so much one can do when you are just a juvenile cub…this particular cub Chiyo worried about. She might hang out with the ‘wrong crowd’ and Chiyo certainly couldn’t let that happen! “What are you doing?” asked Chiyo as she leapt from the tree, landing in front of Aulii. Now, just because the other cub was older didn’t mean Chiyo wasn’t going to show her she was boss! Chiyo was big and strong! At least in her mind that is. “It’s not good to wander too far form the pride…Aulii was it?” said Chiyo, grinning as her tail flickered back and fourth. She was quite creepy for a cub…

Aulii'Naia hadn't been aware of the younger juvenile lurking in the tree, having only just mastered the art of climbing herself. Gasping, dropping her flower as she stepped back when the other female appeared in front of her, her eyes were wide. For a second, she was panicked, then she recognized her as a member of the pride. After her panic had passed, she felt a momentary pang of envy at the others ease in the trees. She'd never been too at home in them, to her horror.
"I was picking flowers," she defended herself, bending down to pick up her fallen flower, using her paw, she awkwardly slipped it behind her other ear, now wearing two flowers on her head. She blinked at the other female. "How do you know my name?" She asked, ignoring her statement. As long as she didn't leave the pride, then she wasn't doing anything wrong, right? Wandering wasn't a crime.

Picking flowers? How childish! Okay, so they were both technically children but weren’t there better things to do then to simply pick flowers? Chiyo knew she hadn’t done anything wrong, she just liked to be a bully. And this particular cub seemed to be an easy enough target. “We are both pride members? Why should I not know your name. Besides, I have watched you a few times, I heard some others call you that.” She said as she walked around the older cub. “Hmm…there are plenty of flowers deeper within the lands? Why go near the boarder unless you had another reason to do so?” meeting a friend that wouldn’t be accepted? Possibly
wanting to leave the pride?

Oh that wouldn’t do! True…Chiyo herself often wandered the boarders…but, she was different! She would never consort with a lesser species unless it was her slave! Or leave the pride! “Why do you pick flowers? Is it not more fun to wrestle? Or climb trees?” s he asked, wondering what was so great about picking flowers. Stupid butterflies! Chiyo growled as the butterflies landed on her pelt again. “Damn things! The flowers are fake! Go away!” she shouted as she smashed one of htem. Stupid good for nothings! Did they know the difference between a REAL flower and a FAKE one!?

Aulii'Naia nodded mildly. "That's true! I like knowing the other pride members, but most of them are very busy," she admitted, the only adult she had really interacted with was her bestest friend and he always seemed to have time for her. "You're...Chiyo?" She guessed, having desperately tried to remember all the fellow cubs names when she was younger. It looked like Chiyo...or maybe it was one of the other cubs? Ooh, she felt terrible not knowing.
She tilted her head at the girls comment. "But I've picked the ones closer in the pride," she said, shifting. She was curious about all of the flowers, trying to find the most interesting ones. She looked bemused at her other comment. "What else would I be doing at the border?" She giggled softly, thinking it was a silly thing to say.
She shifted, looking embaressed. "Well, I'm not good at wrestling and trees aren't my best skill..." she sounded saddened but perked up, "so I pick flowers instead! It's very fun, you should-" try it. She didn't finish her statement as her eyes went wide at the females aggression towards the butterflies.

“Yes I am Chiyo. And if they don’t have time for you, then you make them have time! It’s simple as that!” said Chiyo, grinning as she strutted around. “You force them to ‘play’ with you. It’s really quite simple when you think about.” Said Chiyo with a chuckle. Hmm…she wondered how that bamboo colored adult was doing…she would have to hunt him down again sometime soon. “I am the prettiest and strongest of my siblings!” said Chiyo with a triumphant grin. To her she was the pretties of the bunch! Strongest, probably not but she truly believed it to be so! “And if I see my father…hehe….well, it wont be daughterly love. He’s a traitor so he gets what traitors deserve.” Said Chiyo. Quite vicious thinking for a cub…but she truly hated her father for abandoning the pride and even mating with a female. And she hated that her mother mated with a traitor like him! Hmph!
“You are a leopard! How is it you cannot climb!? That’s like a bird that cannot fly! We are build for the trees! Great upper body strength to carry heavy kills up the trees, agility to scale them, and sleep in them. Surely you must be defective if you cannot climb!” said Chiyo, quite shocked that a leopard who couldn’t climb existed!

Aulii looked horrified at the comment. "Force them? But they're busy. I don't want to interrupt. They could be doing something more important! I'm content to wait until they have time," she nodded firmly, not wanting to be a bother to the important men and women of the pride. She looked curious at the other female. "Traitor? But he's your father! He's your blood, how can you call him a traitor?" She frowned, thinking that no matter if her father ran away, she would still love him. He was her daddy! You had to love your daddy and your mummy.

She flinched heavily at the other girls words, hunching her shoulders slightly. "I'm not defective!" She protested, though her words were weak. "I just haven't practiced a lot. I'll get better!" She sniffled lightly, obviously upset by the thought that she was defective. What if something was wrong with her? She wasn't a good leopard if she couldn't climb!

“Yes force them! You won’t get anything you want if you just wait for it to come to you! So you want to wrestle and no one will come to you to do so? Then you go and find someone and make them! It’s very simple to understand.” Said Chiyo, thinking this other cub was obviously ignorant for not understand the most basic things. “And yes he’s a traitor. The fact he’s my father doesn’t change that he not only abandoned the pride, but he mated with a lion! A lion! An inferior being! He doesn’t deserve anything but to be called a traitor! And he will get what a traitor deserves!” she said as she frowned. She didn’t sympathize with traitors did she??

“Well if you can then show me. Show me you aren’t just a defective leopard. If you need practice then instead of picking ‘flowers’ you should climb trees and get stronger! Show that you are a true leopard!” shouted Chiyo as she motioned to the tree. “Come now. Climb it. Or would you rather go through life being no better then a cheetah?” she said with a grin.

"But that's mean, if they don't want to play, isn't it?" She asked, looking suprised. Didn't wrestling with someone who didn't want to wrestle count as attacking them? What a horrible thought.
Frowning lightly at Chiyo's words about her father. "Lion or not, he was following his heart! That can't be wrong," she said, sounding firm in her words. Species was one thing, but love was superior. She hadn't even known lions and leopards could make but that didn't matter, it was love. Obviously the male cared for the lion he ran off with, if he had left his cubs here for her!

At the shout, the elder female flinched, eyes wide. She wasn't used to being yelled at, her family was soft and gentle and she had never even gotten into a fight. She stared at her, looking scared but glanced up at the tree. "O-okay," she agreed, nodding. She would try! She had to succeed. She moved over the to the tree and tried to remember what Yale had told her. She glanced over her shoulder at Chiyo, hoping she would let her back down but it didn't look like it. She sucked in a deep breath and launched herself at the tree. Once more, her paws got caught and she didn't quite hoist herself up quick enough. When her claws came free of the bark, she slipped, sliding back down. Her claws stung painfully at the jerking motion from her fall.

“Of course it isn’t! They must always be alert and ready for anything! And if I want to play then they should want to play to!” said Chiyo in a ‘matter of factly’ tone. Naturally Chiyo thought nothing of just ‘attacking’ someone. If they are good for anything they they will fight back and that will result in wrestling! And if they are too weak to not fight back, then they were useless and deserved to be her chew toy!

“It IS wrong when the one you go to is a dirty lion!” said Chiyo as she frowned at Aulii. “Lion’s are inferior beings and deserve nothing better then death at the fangs of a leopard!” said Chiyo as she glared at the other cub. How could she defend a traitor!? “What kind of leopard are you if you don’t even remember the basics! I know you are defective but come on!” she said as she shook her head. How could she defend the actions of her father!? He had betrayed their whole pride!

When the older cub started to lcimb the tree….Chiyo watched her with an unammused look. “Don’t stop! Keep going! If you fall I will bite you!” she shouted at her, her attempt to ‘motivate’ her to keep going up. When she fell back, Chiyo growled at leaped at her, claws bared as she took a swipe at her to try and strike her with her claws. “Get back up and climb again! All leopards climb! Its in our blood! If you can’t do that you aren’t a real leopard! So climb or I will scratch you again!” she shouted at her. Chiyo was quite the dictator now wasn’t she?

-

Aulii stared at the other cub, disbelieving of her attitude. First she forces people to play, and now she was saying that lions deserved death? She knew the pride thought these things too but...how could they? Aulii was sure that it was wrong, it had to be! “I remember the basics,” she said firmly, wincing at the word 'defective'. Was she? She couldn't climb, couldn't hunt, she didn't follow the colony...was she really defective? “But I believe in following your own heart! Leopard, lion, cheetah,” she listed, “we all have hearts. How can one of ours be better than the rest?” She knew the other female wouldn't understand, but she had to try.

Aulii yowled as the other leopard threatened her, and when she had fallen, took a swipe at her. She felt the other's claws dig into her shoulder, cutting her slightly and drawing blood. She stared down at the cut, then back up, horrified. This was wrong! She was older than this cub, she should be able to overpower her, but she was afriad, so Aulii turned back to the tree and lept up, trying to remember what Yale had told her. She sniffled, as she threw herself against the bark, clinging to it desperately. She knew the other female would hurt her if she didn't suceed, and unlatched her claws at the same time she scrambled with her back paws, pushing her further up the tree.

-

Chiyo gave Aulii a disgusted look at her response. “How can you even SAY that! Everyone KNOWS that lions and cheetas aren’t even worth the fur on their backs! They are good for nothings! Ick its like falling in love with a vulture! Would you be okay with a leopard being in love with a vulture!? Of course not! Because its gross!” said Chiyo as she stuck out her tongue making an ‘icky’ face. “Heart means nothing if it means you betray your family!” she said with a frown. She really truly believed her father to be a two faced traitor, and nothing was going to convince her otherwise.

Chiyo felt no remorse as she scratched the older cub. And just because she was smaller, didn’t mean she was going to stop. She didn’t’ care if she was smaller, she was still bigger in her heart and acted like the larger, stronger of the two anyways. “Good! Keep going!” she commanded of the older cub as she paced under the tree, keeping her eyes on her and it probably resembled something waiting for their prey to come down from its ‘hiding place’ to attack. Though it was in a way similar to that. For if she didn’t make it and fell down, then Chiyo would be waiting to leap on her. “Keep it up if you want to keep my claws off you!” she said to her as she continued to pace back and fourth.

-

Aulii frowned lightly, trying to see Chiyo's logic. “Well, a vulture and a leopard wouldn't make sense...they can't have babies, so it's silly, but so what if they did fall in love? What difference would it make to you?” She wouldn't care if that happened, sure it would be odd, but if it was love, why would it matter to her, or to Chiyo? It wasn't as if they were going to fall in love with a vulture. She paused, eying Chiyo suspiciously. She shook her head, when she mentioned his betrayl of his family. That was something Aulii couldn't support, not really.

Aulii winced, her claws digging painfully into the bark of the tree, afraid of letting go. She forced herself up further, swinging up onto a branch and taking hold. “See? I climbed. Not defective, nope, not at all,” she rambled down at the younger juvenile. “Can I come down now?” She asked, ending on a slightly pleading note. Aulii was afraid she would fall, out of worry of reaching the ground and getting attacked.

-

“And a leopard mixing with a lion or cheetah doesn’t make sense because they are inferior beings. Jeez why don’t we just mate with anything that moves with your logic! You should stay within your own species, and ONLY that! Obviously with the offspring being sterile most of the time, it is SO obvious they aren’t meant to mate to begin with! Think why dontchya!” said Chiyo as she continued to pace around beneath the tree.

She did however, grin as the older cub climbed up the tree, watching as she made up to the first branch. “Good! All it takes is some tough love and pushing! Now, get down here and do it again! You will keep it up until you no longer struggle to climb! Then you will at least be a partial leopard! Your thinking still needs some work though. But for now, we will work on the climbing! Now start over! If you fall I will scratch you!” said Chiyo as she stood still, watching the older cub.

-

Aulii said nothing at Chiyos words, knowing better now than to irritate the younger leopard further. She just didn't understand, Aulii thought, glancing back at the ground beneath the tree. It seemed a long way down, but she sucked in a deep, steadying breath as she tried to work her way back down the tree, so she could start again.

Her paws hit the ground with a heavy thud and she paused to catch her breath as she glanced back up the tree. Sucking ina deep breath, she turned back to Chiyo. She didn't want to climb again. “Can you climb?” She demanded, trying to channel someone stronger than her so the younger cub wouldn't push her around anymore. “I bet you're just doing this because you can't climb and you like making me feel bad because I'm not good at it yet. Yale says I just need to practice and you forcing me to do it is just going to make me hate it! You will be making me defective.”

-

Chiyo watched as the larger cub decended from the tree. “Now go again!” she commanded before she heard the question the other female gave her. “Haha! Of course I can! I leaped from the tree earlier did you forget? Obviously I can climb! Don’t be stupid!” Said Chiyo with a huff as she turned her head away, before turning back. “Now climb! Keep going until you have mastered it! If you successfully climb up and down ten times I will let you go back! Now climb!” commanded Chiyo as she began to pace again. She was not the nicest cub…but then again, she never was all that nice.

-

Aulii winced. Oh, she had forgotten about that. Darn. The young cub wasn't particuarly logical, so she had thought she had gotten away with it, but obviously the younger cub was a little more logical...in an illogical way. “No,” Aulii said firmly, not moving from her spot beside the tree. “I don't want to climb and you can't make me!” Actually, if she attacked Aulii again, she would likely go along with it, or run, but Aulii didn't want this girl to think she was weak. She wasn't! She just...didn't like fighting.

-

Chiyo lowered her head and growled. “What was that? No!? You WILL climb! Leopards climb! And one sad excuse of a climb isn’t enough to make you a climber! Now climb! Or I will make you!” commanded Chiyo as she growled at her again. Oh she WOULD make her if she didn’t get moving! “I scratched you once! Don’t think I wont do it again!” she said as she prepared to pounce on the older cub if she refused. Chiyo may be smaller, but she was fast and more willing to fight then Aulii. And she felt very confident she could take on the older cub, despite her smaller size.

-

Aulii could feel tears pressing against her eyes, at the way the other was growling at her, but she sniffed and stood firm. “I said NO, I don't want to climb anymore! I will climb when I'm good and ready and you can't make me! You can't hurt me, or my mama will get mad and so will my papa!” She scowled heavily at her. “My papa will come and beat you up!” Of course, she was lying. Her father wouldn't have attacked another cub, but Aulii wanted the other cub to believe that. She tensed, preparing to run if the other attacked her, or if she tried to force her.

-

“Ha! My mother is a great warrior! If your father attacks me she will attack him! Do you want to live your life being defective or do you want to become a leopard! I am helping you can’t you see!? Just because I am not some sissy ‘you can do it’ type of coach doesn’t change the fact that I am still helping you when I don’t need to! If you can’t climb you are no better then a lion and you might as well go live with lions like my good for nothing excuse of a dad!” said Chiyo as she stomped around, obviously on a bit of a rampage at the moment. Chiyo wasn’t afraid of her parents, her mother was strong! And her auntie and uncle were the leaders without her grandfather around! She was not afraid! Her family was there to protect her!

-

“I'm not defective!” She protested, though her voice wavered, “and I don't need your help!” She scowled at him, feeling real anger for the first time in her life, other than the irritation towards others she may have felt before. “You're nothing but a meanie and you're not helping me at all!” She went to push passed Chiyo, intending to stomp off and go hide somewhere that the other female couldn't find her. “I don't care if your mama's a great warrior, you just leave me alone! I don't want your help and you're not welcome near me!” Her shoulders were tense and her face was set into aheavy frown.

-

“You are defective! And stupid!” said Chiyo with a frown, her head raised up high. “Fine! I wont help you again stupid! And with your thinking I doubt you will last long anyways! Pfft I try and be nice and this is what I get!? Well so be it! Stupid defective leopard!” said Chiyo as she kicked up some dirt at the other cub before turning around with a ‘hmph!’ “You just go on living your life as a useless good for nothing!” she said as she turned around and stuck out her tongue at the other cub. This…did not seem like a situation that would cause a friendship to ‘blossom’ from now did it? Chiyo wasn’t a very easy cub to get along with though…she was just very proud, stubborn, and overly confident. And she liked to be in charge and boss others around…and with Aulii rising against her, well…it didn’t make little Chiyo very happy..

-

Defective. Stupid. Won't last long anyway. The words rang in Aulii's head as she hurried away from the other female, sniffling to herself as she slipped into the forest and away from her. She wouldn't go back to her families den, too afraid her mother would notice her upset and ask what had gone wrong, and she didn't want to have to explain it. She wasn't defective! She was just..different. That was it, she was just different from Chiyo. That mean spirited cub was not someone she wanted as a friend, no she didn't! But... she didn't want to disappoint her family. She would show them that she wasn't worthless, and useless, like Chiyo said! She firmed her shoulders, tripping over a branch by accident, hitting the ground. She sighed, staring at her dirtied white paws. Maybe she was defective...
