Thalion Miakis danced from one paw to the other, pullig her feet free from the sticky sand that would pool around her paws as the waves came in, and pool along the backs of them as the waves rolled out once more. She was creating four large holes in the sand simply by standing there. The shell, also, was making a little hole of its own. "I don't know. I don't want the sand to eat it though..."

"Well...I reckon enough water as gotten into it to work, don't you? I mean, the whole shell is completely filled up! The sea is in there!" She waved her paws with excitement! "Only problem is, to test to see if it works, we have to get away from the noise of the real ocean. Otherwise the shell might trick us!"
She bobbed her head, completely satisfied with that.
"But lets walk back, okay? I'm all tired out from our run here!!"

Thalion She nodded and quickly retrieved the shell with a paw. Damp, sticky sand seeped out along with the water, earning a wince. She glanced over to the other female then slowly began shaking the shell out. "I don't know if the sand's supposed to be there...."

"Hmmm..." She put on her 'thoughtful' face and pondered on it a moment. "I don't think it could hurt, could it? I wouldn't worry about it, Miakis. I'm sure its stronger than it looks, especially if its magic. And, so long as its still got the sea on it, then I think it'll work just fine!"
She started heading back, tail swaying out behind her. "I just hope this works else I'm really out of ideas!"
She glanced back at her friend, grinning. "Butttt, I guess we'll have to keep coming up with ideas until it does work. We're not beaten so easily, are we, my friend?"

Thalion She shook her head, "Not at all. Let's get back to dry sand. The beach is eating my paws." She lifted up one of her hind legs to demonstrate. She was nearly halfway to her elbows by then, and it seemed as though the tide would come in soon enough.

She gasped, horrified! "Oh, Miakis! I can't believe the sand would do such a thing! It's dangerous, isn't it? I've never stopped in one place for long in the wet sand! I'll have to remember not to do that! Wouldn't it be terrible to get sucked down and not be able to move?"
She sounded absolutely convinced that it could and would happen.
"The world is a lot more dangerous than what I first realised, you know. It's much safer down by the pool with my pretty little subjects." She blinked, turning back towards her friend.
"Even still, lets hope we got it right this time, else I might not be able to sleep for the thought of it!"

Thalion "It's not dangerous if you move a lot." She tugged her paws free and shufled to one side. The four holes she'd created were already being filled up with swirling sands and waters. She transfered the shell from her paw into her mouth and began trotting back up onto the beach. Once she'd gone a few good paces away from the damp, hard-packed sand she laid the shell down and began prodding at it with a paw. "... did it work?"

Even still...Lucie didn't think she was going to risk it. The sea was a risky business, it seemed!
She stood next to her friend and watched as she prodded at the shell - now lying on the compact sand before them. "I...I'm not sure...I can't hear anything..." And then something dawned on her.
"You know, Mia. You know how the big sea is big and so the sound it makes is big. Well, this shell is small, it would only have a little sea, right? So it would only make a little sound? Maybe lift it to your ear to see if its already working and we don't know it!"

Thalion Her ears rolled forward. Now that was a thought! It was a small shell, bigger than most, but compared to the sea it was nothing. "Okay!" She plopped back onto her haunches and lifted the shell, taking a moment to shake off the sand and the remainder of the water that had been caught inside. After dusting it off a bit and a short inspection, the lioness brought the shell up to her ear and listened. Her eyes went wide. "Ohmygosh! It works!"

She leaned forwards on the tips of her paws, eyes bright and inquisitive. Her ears were strained forwards, ready to hear the response and hoping it was going to be one of success.
And hurrah! It was!
The female danced lightly on her paws, bouncing in a circle before moving closer, buffeting against her friend in way of congratulations. "We did it! We unlocked the secret! Is it very much like the sea?"

Thalion Miakis held the shell out victoriously, her chest puffing outwards as the other female danced about. They did it! "Here, you gotta hear yourself, the whole ocean's in there! Or... a little world... with an ocean!" She held the shell out, eyes widening as a thousand possibilities dawned on her. How did the shell do that?

Her eyes widened and, in awe, she took the shell delicately in her paws and raised it up to an ear. And lo and behold, her friend was right!! The sea was in there, quiet but true. The waves rolling back and forth, back and forth.
She wished she could see it, the tiny ocean inside the shell. She wished she could understand how it worked. But it was magic and magic should not ever be understood.
Speechless, for once, she lowered the shell and handed it very carefully back to Miakis. "Thank you, Mia. This has been a wonderful day! You've got a really beautiful treasure right there."
She paused, puffing up her chest a little. "And I've decided that you're going to be my best friend for now and forever, okay?" She blinked, grinning widely.

Thalion Miakis took it back and began dusting it off once more. The sand was almost impossible to get completely off of anything- to include herself -after a day at the beach. She quietly wondered how an ocean fit inside of a shell. She'd seen them broken before on the beach, battered by the waves smashing them against rocks the ocean floor. What happened to the oceans inside? Did they spill out?
She glanced up and nodded her agreement. "It's amazing, you can listen to it whenever you want! I don't mind. I'll have to find more, so we have a whole stash of oceans!" The second statement brought a wide grin to her face. she'd never had a best friend for now and forever before! "I've never had one of those! Sure, we can be best friends!"

"That's right! And the sound of the sea is so soothing, too. If you're stressed out or anything, just listening to that should calm you right down!" A good thing to remember. Lucie had never been stressed out before, but it could happen in the future and she was pretty sure she and Miakis had a cure right there!
"More of them?" She blinked, realising that she was right. This couldn't be the only one to hold the magic! They could find more! "That would be amazing, wouldn't it? We should definitely do that! What do you say to some beach combing the next time we meet up?"
She purred a little. "That's decided then. Best friends for life. We're totally on the same wave length, you and me. I'm just sorry we never bumped into each other before! But we'll have to make up for it now."
