i really think they exist.

Their figments of our imaginations biggrin
Hell is the embodiment of all our fears and hatreds, its where we mentally send those who we disagree with to make us feel better knowing that they are suffering for eternity where as we are living the path ordained by our deities.
Heaven is the embodiment of everything we love and all of our hopes, its where we mentally send those who agree with us and live the path we view as right to make us feel better knowing that our loved ones are living in eternal paradise where you will soon join them to.

So hers the thing, stop viewing them as real and start viewing them as verbal manifestations of everything that makes us, us when it comes to our character, beliefs and morals,

word

I refuse to be tricked into settling for anything less than the life I want based upon the notion that if I should just complacently follow the sheep because it will all be better after I die. F**K that. You get one life and that's it. Make it a good one.

Lol that's exactly what the church harnessed the whole idea of hell for, to control the superstitious fearful masses with promises of eternal salvation or eternal damnation .
Ps: The last part of your post does not apply to those who believe in reincarnation 8P

actually I feel it is the same. A belief system that tells you to be satisfied with your lot in life and to not challenge authority because it will be better after you die.

Whether the reward is a better caste upon re-birth or an eternity of picnics and sunshine, they are still offering something that is too good to be true in exchange for my complacency and obedience.

Religion is not the cause for those promises, its human nature that makes us want those kinds of things and believe in them in hope that if we do they will be true.

That is somewhat true , but there are people out there who are genuinely concerned with peoples souls and etc and are not there to just control you 8P

Okay id just like to point out the fact that the caste system was obliterated quite some time ago
And ill also have to point out that my religion actually promises that if the gods and goddess feel that you need to be re-born as a slave they will make that happen if it means your soul will learn a valuable lesson or etc.
However we also have an eternal paradise so I have nothing for that last part

So in essence maybe it is to good to be true, but im inclined to believe otherwise

I like the lesson aspect. The philosophical parts of religions are what makes them cool. Stories such as the lessons learned by experiencing what slaves experience are a good way to teach a moral lesson. Though thats all they are, in my opinion, a cool story with a valuable moral lesson. I don't think they are literal truth.
