Only recently have I been looking at custom content and different sim items from the internet, and I swore when I got the game in the first place I would lay off that stuff and not mess with it, out of fear that it would mess up my game royally. But I downloaded something, then something else, and now I have a long list of stuff sweatdrop

Which got me thinking, how do you use custom content? Do you use any at all? How much? Any tips on downloading for me so that I can avoid serious damage to my computer? What's your favorite downloaded custom content?

Personally, I stay away from the super realistic items. I just can't get that into that real of stuff in a game sweatdrop

You would not believe how much CC I have for my Sims 2 game. It must be into the tens of thousands of files!

I don't have as much for Sims 3 but thats mostly because a lot of my Sims 2 files are recolours which aren't needed in sims 3.

I find the Sims community, in general, is very good for not causing computer problems with viruses and such like. I've never had an issue with any file I've downloaded in the 10 years I've been doing so.

It never hurts to scan files before you open them though.

My favourite site for CC is modthesims.

Ugh. THIS is what caused my last computer to crash. It's addicting! Because there's always "something else".

I limit myself to my downloads. I ONLY download off of Thesims3.ea.com because that stuff is legit and there's really nothing that's going to mess up your game from there. HOWEVER, too much of it, is what causes problems. When you game starts to slow down, that's when you should stop and just deal with what you've got.

I have a cheap laptop that I'm very thankful for because it can actually run sims 3 smoothly. However, I can't have much downloaded on it, because it'll easily crash. (and trust me, crashing a computer if you've never done it, SUCKS)

The sims would be too boring after a while without CC. I love Maxis/EA match stuff, simlish, all the different mods and hacks available... and knowing its only going to get better! I had a ton of stuff when I played sims 2, and now every day it seems theres something new and awesome for sims 3 - I almost daily check modthesims.info and mysims3blog and the content lists and EA and MATY and my game is already loaded with lots of new stuff.

For sims 2: http://www.sims2wiki.info/Content_List Content lists!
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=227925 helps organize and find borked stuff

For sims 3: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:Content_Lists Content lists!
http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=387006 helps identify problem content - run it, its easy!
http://www.mysims3blog.blogspot.com - new content listed daily, tagged so you can just view hair or houses or whatever if you want
http://forum.thesims3.com/jforum/posts/list/113871.page Free EA store stuff and deals
Combinging package files (for sims 3) really helps performance when you have a lot of downloaded content - http://www.moreawesomethanyou.com/smf/index.php/topic,17746.0.html - just keep backups of your files organized somewhere separate. May be slightly complicated but it really works! <3

I downloaded a lot just for the hair and there's a ton of clothing I want to get rid of. But they're all from the EA site and I don't know which is which.

I would like to get rid of them, so I have more space and I can get Freetime. biggrin
