continuing support

i saw the announcement that viz/sb just had a massive layoff. this makes me really sad since their books take up over half of my massive collection. anyway, i wanted to give a tip or two (really just one) for a way to continue supporting our favorite publisher.

buy new books. revenue from new books goes to the publisher and author/creator/artist. buying used books is great for your wallet, but only the store that sells the book gets the profit, not the author or anyone else in the creation process.

I absolutely second this! A lot of my manga is from Viz and it's incredibly depressing that they seem to not being doing as well as one would hope. I really hope people continue to buy from them and if you don't already, start to buy the manga to support the American manga industry.

The only plus side to this is that they've only done this to try and stay in the market, so hopefully they will be able to ride through the bad economy and once again grow after it starts to boom again (though it's already supposedly on the upturn).
