((Including cub pic too, because I'm vain about his markings you can't see on his juv lines. XD)) The sky was an unmatched shade of blue today, and was ill-matched with the dry, harsh landscape below. A few bright, fluffy clouds looked out of place when Leyak looked up from the dead, gnarled bushes along the path he walked. The beaten trail twisted down a low hill, eventually toward a small pool of water that tasted vaguely of sulfur. Still, it was the closest watering hole for some distance, and Leyak had grown weary and thirsty from playing in the brush. His playing was starting to feel like practice now, but since he wasn’t allowed on serious hunts yet even that had little appeal.
Piqued with his own boredom, he slogged downhill with footsteps too heavy for someone of his youth and… runt size. Of his myriad of brothers, he was the smallest, and even his recently-surfacing demon seemed disappointed with that fact. He hadn’t dealt much with that presence yet, but its distaste was irksome to him. He would deal with it in time – until then he would have a drink and ignore its pointless criticism.

The beautiful blues of Widjan's coat almost blended with the clear sky above. She blinked green eyes up toward the sky and smiled, enjoying such a beautiful view. Unfortunately, the horizon, where the gorgeous sky met the dying, brown landscape, was a lot less pleasant. But this was where her mother chose to live, and where her demon called her to stay, and she was okay with that.
She was away from her family today for no specific reason, she just wanted something to do. Her mother and sister weren't doing anything extremely important, and that left her with the option of wandering or staring at the den wall. She chose wandering.
She found a hill and peeks down it, grinning at the bushes below. She had little time to think about the consequences before she was barreling down the hill, yelling at the top of her lungs in an excited glee. She hit the bushes, which she had expected to slow her descent, and crashed straight through them, splashing into the watering hole hidden behind them and in front of a male cub.

((XD D’aww, so cute))
He reached the pool without encountering another lion, thankfully. They may have all shared a pride, but he’d been growled and glared at enough to know that only granted a minimum of safety. At the water, he ignored his thirst for a moment to eye his captured image in the calm surface. He wondered if his mane would grow in silver when it came, and if maybe he would grow enough in size to make it look regal. He wondered at this for a while before making a disgusted noise in his throat and leaning down to drink. He paused after the first lap, hearing a long-winded yell growing louder. Perplexed, he raised his head and tried to spot the direction of the sound, and then –
SPLASH! Water and black and blue fur went flying, and he leapt back, half blinded by the water in his eyes. “Ahh!” He flinched as if to run, but his temporarily blindness disabled him, and by the time he blinked the worst of it out of his eyes his frayed nerves were gathered enough to keep him from fleeing. What he saw lying in the water didn’t calm him any though. His pride, already squashed by being drenched, almost fleeing, and all because of some cub girl, now flared in indignation at the abuse. He snarled and shouted (panic making his voice louder than intended), “What are you DOING?!”

"WHOOOOOOOOOHOO!"
Widjan laughed, standing up in the belly-high water and shaking her head and shoulders to get rid of the water that soaked her fur and made it hard to see. Her back paw hurt a little, but not enough for her to be concerned about it. Especially not after such a rush!
But an angry howling voice caused her to frown and turn around, her ears pressing against her skull in confusion and a little fear. He wasn't large, but the anger and tone of his voice made up for that, causing her to duck a little. Her demon snarled in her mind at the weak gesture, but she couldn't help it. She hadn't meant to make anyone angry, but obviously she had. "I'm sorry. I was just playing. I didn't think I'd make it through the bushes..."
She glanced up at him for a moment before staring down at the still rippling water. If she could make it out of this without ending up in a spar, it would be a miracle.

He took a step toward her and stopped on the edge of the water, scowling. It wasn’t a very large pool to begin with, and half of it was already churned up and muddy, useless for drinking, and the silt-like mud was billowing everywhere else. “You ruined it, you idiot,” he snapped. His eyes narrowed harshly, as if trying to make his raised hair look like it had been poofed out of anger rather than fear.

She felt her demon pushing at her, angry and wanting retaliation, and she was finding it hard to ignore. She looked up at him again, her eyes a little darker with the anger lurking behind them.
"Idiot?!" She asked, incredulous. "It will settle! It's a little mud. You know, like what you're standing on?" Her voice was a soft, slow hiss, as if she were talking to a newborn who couldn't understand her. She stopped and shook her head, her breath coming in a soft, quick sigh. "Boys are unbelievable!"
All she wanted to do was have some fun, and when she did some puffed up, arrogant little male was going to yell at her for landing in water? What did he want her to do, land in thorns? ... Probably. Normally she was happy and bubbly, and quick to make friends, but when someone had the audacity to call her a demeaning name, she had no room for them.

Leyak was, indeed, standing in mud. He minding it more in his drinking water than under his feet, however, but it was a stupid thing to get into a real fight over. His demon’s hotheaded opinion about the matter matched Widjan’s, but its opinion was not a shove to him, only a whisper that he decided to ignore. “Uneblieveable?” he remarked, voice now going wry and losing its volume. “And you usually go running around without knowing where you’re going and crashing into things?” His posture lost some of its tension and he shook his head, slinging off the water that hit his face.

She pursed her lips and pushed through the water to the bank, getting out and shaking off her dark coat, sleek and glossy with the clear liquid clinging to it.
"Actually, I go around having fun. Like a normal cub." She gave him a pointed look. "Do you normally go around yelling at random, innocent females? Cause let me tell you, it's not a good trait." She stretched to toes and wiggled her injured foot, grimacing a little at the sting of a pulled muscle. Oh well. With pleasure came pain.

Leyak’s tail flicked and bobbed in annoyance. “Ones that irritate me, yes.” He moved away from the pool and mud, stiff and sullen. His mouth was annoyingly dry, and the fear and adrenaline had only made it worse. “I didn’t come here to play. I came to drink.” He liked to think of himself as getting too old to play. He was too young for such thoughts really, but he hadn’t played with many other cubs before. Despite having five other siblings, he didn’t associate with them much, and he was without close friends.

She watched him for a while, her own tail moving in a sort of calm, happy movement. Even her own anger couldn't last long against her happy nature. Her words were still serious and slightly clipped, however.
"Then we need to change your plans, because you're obviously not going to drink, anymore." She walked towards him and turned her head to the pool. "It's not a watering hole anymore. It's too muddy. But what else could it be?"

What else could it be? He glanced toward the pool and suddenly got the gist of what she was talking about. He wasn’t much good at these little games anymore, but it was a bearable alternative to fighting over something so inane. “It’s, uhh… It’s been poisoned by the demon slayers.” He couldn’t work enthusiasm into his voice, but he smiled wickedly at Widjan’s drenched form. “And you went and jumped in it. They left the cure over by, uh, that tree up the hill over there,” he said, gesturing to a curved, budding tree in the distance, “but you have to beat me there to get it.”
A game thus invented, he grinned at her, eyebrows raised to invite her to play, and then bolted for the tree. He was already tired and thirsty, and didn’t expect to win with his runt-short legs, but even losing he would be in a better mood with someone to play with.

Widjan was a little worried when he struggled to think of something, but quickly perked up. "Yeah! Now we're getting somewhere!" She laughed, wiggling in excitement. Games and fun were her specialty.
"Quick, we have to get there before the demon slayers destroy all of the cure!" She darted after him, her little legs carrying her quickly. She wasn't a particularly large lioness, but she did have speed on her side. She darted up the hill, eyes narrowed and chest heaving in quick breaths. It was exhilarating to run like this, and she loved every bit of it. "We're almost there!" She cried out.
As she reached the top of the hill she began rooting around in the grass. "Where is iiiit!?"

((Woop, sorry for the delay in replying.))
Years from now he wouldn’t forget a trespass this lightly. Years from now, he would perhaps play off a fool’s interrupting his drink just as lightly, but he would have made a certain note of it. But today he was only a cub, amid the excited panting while racing to the tree he forgave for the sake of fun that suddenly swept him up.
He slapped his front paws against the tree to bring his miniature momentum to a halt and turned, glancing for a suitable ‘cure.’ “There,” he said, after she touched a particularly black rock. “You’re safe!” Success now claimed, his hind legs buckled and he dropped onto his haunches without aplomb. He’d been tired before he’d even gone to the watering hole, he remembered now.

((I'm sorry as well. XD I lost my muse for a while))
She squealed a happy sound and nosed the rock a few more times to be safe. "Now we have to figure out a way to stop the demon hunters!" She scooted close to him and ripped up some grass to bare the dark earth beneath. She then used a claw to trace a wobbly circle and a large X. "That's us," she pointed to the X, "and that's them." She pointed to the circle and stuck out her tongue at it. She loved playing games like this.
"Now, what are we going to do? We have to stop them from getting to the others!"

((It’s fine. I’ve been so damn busy I couldn’t have replied anyway.))
Leyak tilted his head and peered over the rough drawing. Tired as he was, he didn’t mind this sort of crafty invention. Bickering over a bit of dirt was easier than running, and he found himself warming to the plot of their game. He was silent for a moment, then slapped a bit of empty dirt between to two symbols, making a rough, smeared paw print. A third symbol. “There’s some buffalo over there,” he stated, pointing delicately at the mark as if he hadn’t just made it. “If we scare them they’ll stampede,” he gestured toward the circle, “and trample most of them.” He hadn’t actually seen a buffalo before, but he’d heard what sort of large, dangerous animals they were. It took several lions to bring one down, and even they supposedly had horns that could viciously gore and even kill an attacker.
“What do we do about the remainders?” he prompted his conspirator.
