They were his then. Theirs, rather. He wasn't sure whether to be relieved or not. He was a dad. A dad. The thought scared him beyond belief and for a moment he wasn't sure exactly what he was supposed to do.
His father hadn't been around much and he'd only really had respect for his mother. Were his cubs going to care as little about him as he had for his father? He growled softly to himself and shifted on the sand.
He lay a few paces away from Ursa's den, seeming as if he wanted to make it appear that he was not connected with the den. With who was inside. But he was. And soon everyone would know it.
And he was afraid.
Ursa was relieved, relieved to know that she hadn't ruined things, and that her brief afternoon with his brother hadn't resulted in cubs to complicate matters. She still felt as if things could have happened better, though, so much better, but she chose to pursue her feelings for Azar that day even though she knew he liked his teacher, and this was what came of it.
The cubs were sleeping in a bundled, loose pile of sorts, so Ursa came to peek out of the den into the bright blazing sunlight and see where Azar was. Settling forward onto her belly at the entrance gave her the most effective vantage point. She could hear any threat from inside, though she doubted there would be one, and nothing was going to get past her either.
"Azar?"
He startled a little at her voice and turned his head back to look at her. She had settled herself at the entrance of the den, protectively, and he rose to look at her, turning in a slow circle to regard her through red eyes.
"You...okay?" He asked, unsure of what to say, feeling awkward and uncomfortable in her presence despite the fact that they'd fixed everything between them. Or he thought they had. "Are they...sleeping?" He tilted his head lightly to try and peer past her into the darkness, but of course, he would not be able to see the cubs from his position.
