                                                  𝐿𝑜𝒸𝒶𝓉𝒾𝑜𝓃 : Great Hall - Sorting (2064)
                                                  𝒞𝑜𝓂𝓅𝒶𝓃𝓎 : Future Classmates

Kara was new to this whole magic thing. When she found out she was a witch, she wasn’t sure what that really meant. It wasn’t until she went to Diagon Alley to get her wand that she started to understand more about it. Though, a lot was still very much unknown, she knew she’d figure it out. Only problem was she’d have to leave her dance school, something she loved through and through. It would be an adjustment, but her mother told her not to let it get to her, that she could dance anywhere.

The young girl hung onto that as she headed onto the platform. She could feel the sadness in the moment as she said goodbye and boarded the train. Off she went headed towards a school she’d never heard about. How things would go or even where they would go was all a mystery. Kara waited for the train to arrive, spending her time looking out the window as the world went by. She only looked away when she decided to read her book, though her mind just wasn’t staying focused for once on that.

Upon arriving, Kara got into her school robes before joining the group of first years for the trip to school. She didn’t know until they got to the lake that they’d be traveling on the water. Taking the trip, it was a nice ride and the castle coming into view was something else entirely. Kara was mesmerized by the scene before her, staring at the castle as they came up to the boathouse. Looking around as they headed to the great hall.

Entering the great hall, Kara stopped in awe. There was nothing else like it. It took a second before she was nudged forward by another student. She turned her focus to getting to the front of the great hall before looking around back and forth. This was pretty cool so far. Being told how this would work, Kara waited for her name to be called (which of course was one of the last names to be called). Walking up the young girl took a seat. Glancing up as the hat was placed on her head, she wondered how a hat would make that choice.

'Not sure how this works but I guess you’d know best right…?'

Not knowing the difference, Kara would go anywhere. She was ready to go along with whatever the sorting hat said.

                                                  𝒪𝒪𝒞 :

                                                  xxxP E R S O N A L I T Y xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
                                                      ■ QUIET Kara’s a quiet individual who prefers to listen then speak her mind (most of the time). This is especially so during moments of confrontation. The more she can find out the better things will be in the long run. When she does talk it tends to be soft and even toned. She really isn’t one to start an argument and typically tries to prevent any arguments from occurring. You can also be sure she won’t gain much attention since being rather quiet even while on the move. She doesn’t like to attract attention and prefers to blend into the background. Though don’t be fooled she will state her peace if she has something to say.
                                                      ■ INQUISITIVE Despite her silence, Kara has an inquisitive nature. Full of intrigue she’s one for getting in close and coming to understand what’s going on. However, when she first enters a situation, she’s one to assume what’s going on without anything backing her assumptions. At times this can lead to her assuming wrong which she is quick to apologize for. Though, she will work to learn all she can after the fact, even if it includes getting into someone else’s personal business. She can be rather prying in order to get the ball rolling into somewhat of a conversation although she tries not to push it too far.
                                                      ■ POLITE Kara’s politeness doesn’t just stop after she assumes the wrong thing. In fact, she is polite on a general basis. She’s well mannered and respectful to other people and unless given a reason not to she’s thoughtful with her words. Her aim isn’t to hurt people but to help people. Though, generally she doesn’t personally care about other people’s problems. Not as much as she leads others to believe at least. However, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t care for those around her. Kara will always try to keep things civil regardless of her feelings. As being discreet yields results and doesn’t draw attention.
                                                      ■ PASSIVE Kara has a passive desire to go along and comply with what others see for her or say for that matter. Although being rather selfless with regards to what others want, she isn’t completely so. She’d hardly put herself in the position to stick her neck out there if someone else is around willing to do so. However, she will certainly consider helping. She also isn’t a total push over either. Though, she won’t stand in the way of others and will accept the actions and behaviors of others, she won’t just sit completely by. Especially if it meant leaving a friend to suffer the consequences.
                                                      ■ LEVEL-HEADED Kara is generally rather calm although she can have an occasional temper. Granted it rarely shows. Being realistic and in turn sensible on what can and cannot be done, she’s decent at planning and can also see the chances of a conversation ending in compromise. She’s pretty good at playing the mediator in a conversation. Most of the time being able to calm a heated situation. Though that’s not to say that when a conversation does get heated or something manages to agitate her that she won’t put her two cents in.
                                                      ■ CONFIDENT Despite being passive, Kara is quite confident with her ideas. She's sure herself with regards to her studies believing she can do anything she sets out to do. When speaking about topics she comes off as knowing what she is talking about. Though, she is quiet about it, that doesn’t mean she isn’t sure of what she’s saying. Kara will state her peace in a conversation and leave it at that. If given the opportunity she would share her opinion and would defend it. However, she wouldn’t go so far as to argue over who’s right and who’s wrong. Kara is more then willing to hear the other side of the argument. Though she’s more then willing to agree to disagree if it means keeping things calm and at the very least civil.

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Well, I have had many decades of practice, my friend!
And you seem on a quest for knowledge.
Don't worry, I know just the place for you!

Youngest Shepheɾd🐑 Unsoɾted Fiɾst Yeɑɾ 🐾 Peɾmɑnentlγ Unbotheɾed

₍ᐢ・⚇・ᐢ₎ Addy was glad his parents had allowed them to take the car into London for his send off instead of the floo thing his sister's been doing the past few years. It wasn't so much that he was scared, more that he just really really didn't trust it. Like at all. Saying goodbye on the platform felt sort of surreal being on the other side for once after seeing off all his older siblings and then immediately going home. He once again rattled off his specific care instructions to his animals and why exactly Solomon should Not be his replacement ever at all. His dad just patted him gently assuring him that they wouldn't while his mum gave him a solemn nod promising to take the upmost care while he was gone. Soon enough, he was boarded on the train with Preeti and pretty much napped through most of the ride when not gazing at landscapes and nearly being force fed by his sister.

Right as the announcement came that they were nearing the station, Preeti suddenly had a nervous but serious look and took both of Addy's hands into her own.

"Adlai, I need you to listen to me ok? Like, seriously listen." The preteen slid forward in his seat to ensure he was giving his full attention. "This school is different from the smaller one you've been to, but also it's not...it's complicated!" Addy just grinned waiting for his sister to find her thoughts.

"Ok so the thing is-! It's different because it's so much bigger and there's going to be so many different kids from other backgrounds. But it's the same because there's still people who could potentially give you a hard time." This is where Addy's smile slipped and he lightly scowled knowing where this sudden talk was going.

"Preeti, it wasn't even that big of a deal-"

"You coming home every day upset is definitely 'a big deal' Addy! Shazzi threatening to march down to the school in full robes to give a piece of her mind is more than 'kind of a big deal.' And you know she would've if she'd still been on desk duty!" Addy snorted at the thought that he had to be grateful his auror eldest sibling had been reprimanded so she didn't do something else that would've encouraged further discipline.

"I'm serious pikin bẹd wé, as much as you want people to think nothing bothers you, I know better." The boy blinked in surprise at the pidgin knowing this might actually be more serious than he realized. His scowl softened then into a small frown and slightly furrowed brow. "So then...what do you want me to do?" he asked curiously.

Preeti sighed deeply before cupping his cheeks smooshing them just enough to annoy him. "Right now, nothing I guess. But just yknow, keep an eye out and come to me for anything. Anytime! Regardless of whether we're in the same or different house, ok? Promise?" Through his smooshed cheeks, Addy promised to come to her with anything that bothered him.

And in record time, the siblings were off the platform and he was whisked away with the other first years across the lake. He felt sad that he barely got to enjoy it and that it was too dark to really see into the depths of the lake, though he figured since he was going to be at the school awhile, he had time. Then, he marched alongside everyone else into his first glimpse of the Great Hall which he wasn't at all embarrassed that his mouth dropped spectacularly open at seeing the ceiling. He wondered-and hoped really-that all the ceilings looked like this in the entire castle, but especially in the dorms.

Addy knew he would have to wait awhile due to his last name and he admittedly zoned out still a bit tired from the train ride and only blinked back into focus when he was practically shoved by the person behind him and he noticed that the professor was staring directly at him with no one available to hide behind. Oh. Whoops. He sought out his sister while he walked to the stool spotting her sitting with all the other ravens and gave a small smile and wave before his vision was rudely obstructed. 'Well it's not like that's your fault. Is it weird having to listen to so many people's thoughts? Or like, is it just boring now?'

                                                      xP E R S O N A L I T Y xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
◊ RELIABLE If you give Addy a task of any sort, you’ll know with no doubt whatsoever that he’ll accomplish it. And he’s not just limited to tasks; as long as he’s given the who/what/when’s, he’ll be sure to be there or do that.
◊ SIMPLE Addy doesn’t really care beyond the present and even then just barely. It doesn’t take very much to make him happy or content, though admittedly it also means he usually takes things people say at face value.
◊ APPRECIATIVE Alongside his simplicity, Add can see the beauty in nearly any and everything. Among his favorites are breezes in the field, patches of clover, and the absolute best naps.
◊ PATIENT Addy sees no point in rushing or pushing himself more than he truly needs to. No matter what as long as you’re going somewhere you’ll get there eventually, so why dirty yourself up by trying to get there fast? Who are you really beating?? Yourself?? Weird.
◊ PERSUASIVE Just because he’s patient however, doesn’t mean that on occasion, Addy can’t talk a certain situation into his favor. His gentle and simplistic ways usually work in getting the animals to do what he needs, why shouldn’t the same work for people?
◊ APATHETIC Truthfully though, as long as everything is ok with him, Addy sees no reason to change…anything really. He likes his life as it is, and he feels he’s gotten a good grasp of it. Why fix what’s not broken?

Dymitri Alynn Quinlan
Unsorted │ First Year │ Eleven Years Old │ Single

If today had a theme, it had to be ‘hurry up and wait’, decided Dymitri, as he stayed towards the back of the group of students waiting to be Sorted into their Houses. He was accustomed to waiting; with a surname starting with the letter ‘Q’ it was to be expected. The incoming First Year had yet to get a satisfactory answer as to why they couldn’t just drive north to get to Hogwarts, instead of needing to go all the way down to bleedin’ London just to take a day-long train ride all the way north again.

To add to annoyance, he also had to wait until his dark-haired grumpier-than-thou cousin arrived from Russia, so they could all travel together down to London. One nice thing about having his cousin visit was that if Kasamir was coming, so too was Aunt Faina, and she was always fun to see, if a bit subversive. From her he’d picked up a bunch of his more colourful bits of Russian language lessons, things which would make Mom blush to hear, and she would discuss tidbits of her activities in Russia. This time though, he had that huge dog he called ‘Bear’, and he was well-named, as he was the size of a bear cub, and friendlier than his owner.

It was Mom who them to the railway all the way down in London to start the journey, as Aunt Faina barely had time to arrive, have breakfast with the family before she said her farewells to Kasamir, and then she gave Alynn (which was how Dymitri preferred to be addressed, much to Grandma Patrovna’s ire) a going-away present, and took her leave, as she was needed back in the office in St. Petersburg. It was times like this when Alynn realized just how cool it could be having magic of his own. They arrived at the floo gates, and avoided all the conventional traffic at the station, not that it seemed to matter as the platform was a swirling mass of students and other folk.

Alynn was dragging along his own school trunk strapped down on an appliance dolly, and he was already annoyed as he needed to hurry up and wait until next freakin’ year to have his own broomstick and to bring Stewie with him. Again, no good explanation there beyond ‘those are the rules’ as to why. At least Stewie would have the company of the rest of the ferret colony in the house, as they don’t do well if they have nobody around to be with, but Alynn would have to wait until winter break before he could cuddle his little pal again. He and Kas loaded their trunks onto the train, and then Mom had a few last words for them both.

Really, Mom? I’m the eldest in the family, and now I get demoted to little brother?” protested Alynn, after overhearing what Mom told Kasamir before allowing him and Medved to rush after somebody named ‘Hes’. Mom had a reproving look on her face, and she told him, “You haven’t been ‘demoted, Alynn, oh my gawd, child, but he’s been there for the last three years, and its just possible the two of you may be in the same House together, and I want him to watch out for you, the same as I know you will do when your siblings get their turn to ride the train. Please, listen to him, as a favour to me and your father?”

Alynn sighed dramatically, “Okay, Mom, for you, I’ll listen to him, but only if he listens to me too.” Glancing over towards where Kasamir and the dog were with this girl in a dark blue dress. She sighed, and said, “I make no promises on that one; your aunt has told me he keeps his own council on a great many things. Just remember, you’re both family. Stewie will be fine, I promise, and I’ll come get you both to bring home for Christmas. Now, off you go before you’re late, and I need to give Kas his schoolbag; he’s seems to have forgotten it.” Alynn snickered, and commented, “Gee, I can guess why.” The two of them hugged and Kitty kissed her elder son, before rushing off into the crowd.

After boarding the train, Alynn was ostensibly left to his own devices. While he knew Gabe was here somewhere, he hadn’t clue where to find him, and he guessed his cousin, who he needed to listen to him, was likely busy with whoever that girl was, and probably wouldn’t want him underfoot. Finding an empty compartment, Alynn was content to binge-read a couple of newly released graphic novels he stashed in the bag he brought along and crash out on the bench seat. Hearing the trolley lady was enough to roust him long enough to load up on snacks to tide him over until dinner.

It was after dark when the train arrived in Hogsmeade, and Kasamir showed up to make sure Alynn was awake and functioning, and he helped to get him to where the other First Years were being gathered before rushing off to help Hes down from the train.

Thinking about it, he knew he would hold the image of the castle above the lake in his mind for a very long time; the lights glowing from the windows was truly a magnificent sight. And now, he was biding his time, waiting his turn with the…hat. ‘Yeah, if I’d been told I was going to be Sorted into my House by a talking hat, I would have told them they were selling me a pant-full,’ he was thinking when his name was called.

It took a moment for it to register, as his given name was called, and it was usually only Mom who called him that, when he was in trouble, of course. Alynn walked up to the front of the hall, and sat down on the stool provided. As the brim of the ancient hat rested upon the bridge of his nose, Alynn drew a deep breath, and he thought, ‘All righty, so how do you want to handle this? My cousin is in Slytherin, and Mom thinks I might be joining him. Dad and my Aunt Faina were both in Slytherin too, and Mom was a Hufflepuff. So, that’s my end of things, I guess. Um, so what are you thinking?’

The boat ride to the castle seemed to go on forever. Sure, she had a boat buddy in Poppy, but that didn’t outweigh the fear she had of the water. Zoe did her best to hide it, clenching her fists and staring at a single spot in the boat while Poppy chatted with her. When thy made it to the boathouse, she quickly leapt to solid ground, letting out a tired huff, as if she had just run a marathon. No time to deal with this feeling now, she had to follow her fellow First Years into the castle, through the antechamber, and into the Great Hall to be Sorted.

Zoe did her best to keep close to Poppy while each student was called up, one by one, to have their houses selected for them. She really hadn’t given which house she wanted to be in much thought, until this moment. Gryffindor, the house of the brave. Slytherin, the house of ambition. Ravenclaw, the house of the wise. Hufflepuff, the house of the loyal. She felt like she could really go anywhere and find a way to fit in, plus she’d be able to make friends with everyone in her year one way or another. ”Zoe Fernsby!” Her mind snapped to attention when her name was called, blinking back into reality. Zoe took a breath and made her way up to the wooden stool, turning to face the crowd of students watching her. Having so many eyes on her was never something she thought would make her this uncomfortable, almost like she was on trial, being judged by her peers. She swallowed nervously, then sat upon the stool and waited for the Hat to make it’s choice.

❝I've seen this episode before. Déjà vu’s so hard to ignore.
Promise it’ll only play once more. Everything is a rerun.
I wonder if I try again, can I change how the story ends?
Warning signs like a smoking gun. Everything is a rerun.❞

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
Don't you worry, Ms. Fernsby,
There's no trial here, just me!
I can see your curiosity, your smarts!
I think you'll be off to a good start in...

Nigel sat next to Amelia, legs kicking freely due to the rather high chair he was sat in and his rather short height (even for an 11 year old lad). He glanced around the room, identifying the things he recognized from his mum’s stories and what little books he could get on the school and noting differences or things he didn’t recognize immediately. When Amelia’s name was called he gave her an encouraging shoulder nudge and smile then waited until he heard the proclamation of (redacted for spoilers) and nodded approvingly. Very fitting, at least to his own meager knowledge of the houses and their traits.

At that point he began running through options and opinions on which house he wanted for himself. Hufflepuff would be nice, since they were known to be the friendliest and likely most accepting. Slytherin would be…a time. He wasn’t sure if he had their idea of ambition driving him onward, unless ambition was their word for hyperfixations. Gryffindor was a bit too…loud for his liking. Bold and brash and everything he didn’t really care for. Ravenclaw was his mum’s house and the studious ones, so that would also be good. "Yes, Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw would be the preferred choices, if I’m given one. Does the sorting hat give choices? Time will tell I suppose.” he thought to himself. He was startled out of his revelry by the call of “Nigel Ellsworth!” from the individual reading the list of new arrivals and he walked his way to the stool the hat rested on, nearly tripping over a slight uptilt of the rug beneath him. He recovered with only a slightly ungangly stumble and sat down, resting the hat on his head and listening as hard as he could.

Malachi stared around, trying to absorb it all. The castle was huge, and well worth the ride over the boat that made him seasick and the hours-long train ride to the middle of nowhere. Now that he was here, he wasn't sure what he was going to do next. Obviously learn magic, but beyond that? He figured he'd figure it out eventually. As it stood, when he heard his name called, he stepped up and sat on the stool. He felt kind of foolish, but whatever. Maybe the ratty hat could tell him how to get rid of his father easier.

◊ VAIN Malachi was raised being told that his looks were all he was good for. As a result, he'd become meticulous in caring for his appearance, often fretting if something caused a blemish or scar.
◊ SELFISH Malachi is a survivor, first and foremost. He will often put his own safety and health above others, ignoring the consequences.
◊ WILLFUL Malachi tends to do what he wants, especially if someone has told him not to. He's often gotten into trouble for it before, and finds himself quite stifled when he's confined.
◊ INTELLIGENT Malachi, despite what he's been told, is quite intelligent. He has a love for learning that hasn't dimmed in the slightest, even after all he's encountered. He also has a sharp wit, and sharper tongue, to go along with it.
◊ OUTGOING Despite being a learned behavior, Malachi is quite friendly to people, usually trying his best to charm people into liking him. He's used this quite often in the past, though he often despises himself for it.
◊ DISTRUSTFUL Of all the things that Malachi has learned in his life, distrust has been the biggest. He was taught to avoid authority figures, and actively lie to them whenever possible. It takes quite a bit for him to trust anyone, and so far, none have managed to gain it.

The Professor set the hat down carefully on the student's head. For a moment the hat was silent before speaking....
While I'm not sure what to do about dads,
I promise I'm good at what I do!
I think you'll learn all you need
Among students a lot like you!
