Mirsajadi was ready to scream. His father was having a special guest for dinner, and so everyone in the den was expected to be on their best behavior and look their very best. Mirsajadi, who was almost always on his best behavior, was thoroughly tired of being told by older siblings how he was supposed to behave when the visitor arrived. His mother and his father's other banu, Ukoo, were both out hunting so that there would be plenty of food to go around, and so there was even less attention paid to the striped cub than usual. He fully intended to take advantage of this, just as soon as he could convince his older sister that his fur was fine and that he could groom himself. Mirsajadi didn't much like to be groomed by others. Particularly not when the person doing the grooming was complaining the whole time about how much he shed. Of course he was shedding. It was hot out!

At last his opportunity came and he took it, darting out of the den as though something large and toothy was in hot pursuit. This time, unlike most of his other escapes, he made no attempt to be stealthy or casual. He was escaping. Oh, he fully intended to return in time to make a good impression, but he had no plans to hang around and be fussed over and ordered about for the rest of the afternoon. With any lucky, the hullabaloo would distract everyone from his absence. His father, sharp-eyed and sharp-tongued, might notice, but Mirsajadi didn't think he had. And if he had, wouldn't he have come after him right away?

Once outside, Mirsajadi needed to find a place to hide out where he wouldn't get dirty, which limited him somewhat. His paws, however, knew where he wanted to go, even if it hadn't occurred to him yet, and shortly he found himself nearing Faiz's den.

Buffy_the_Bloody
The female yawned, her body lazying inside her fathers den. The other banu had taken off for their own little outing, and it was something she had declined this time. Father didnt mind too much, it just meant she wasnt busy staring at others to learn from them. He thought it was kind of rude to stare, but she couldnt help it. She was too curious for her own good sometimes.

Her eyes were closed, as today was going to be her snoozing day. Or at least..right now would be. It was hot outside and far too uncomfortable for her to make her way out for no reason at all. She yawned again, and this time her nose twitched. Something smelled familiar, but she blew it off.. She was at home after all, everything was familiar.

Mirsajadi slowed to a walk as he drew within eyesight of Faiz's den and glanced down at his paws. There were times when his body did not seem to consult with his mind, and this was one of them. It also happened in those occasional instances where he saw things which weren't there. As far as he was concerned, this was preferable by far to hallucinating. When he reached the vizier's den he stopped outside. It would be very bad manners to simply go in, no matter what his paws might want to do.

"Good afternoon," he called into the den. He was reluctant to raise his voice, not so much because he thought it likely he'd wake anyone but because it seemed rude to shout into someone else's den. For that matter, Mirsajadi really didn't like to shout. If things could be handled without raising his voice, wasn't that better?

"It's Pesar Mirsajadi. I was hoping to be allowed to play." So far this was all true. What he said next was not, however, and in the future he would learn to keep silent rather than lie like this, but for the time being he thought it needful to add, "I have permission to be out of the den."

Buffy_the_Bloody
She stopped, one eye flicking open as she heard the voice. She knew that voice, she had heard it before. She raised her head, opening the other eye while she peered out the entrance of the den. She was the only one in here at the moment, and from the sound of it, he thought that her father was there. Only then would he say he had permission to leave the den, and.. knowing Misa, he had not had permission, just as she had not had permission last time.

"Oh I know who you are silly." She said, eyes gleaming as a grin spread across her face. She walked to the den entrance, and her footfalls were light, for having such heavy paws.

"And how did you know Id want to play?" She giggled.

Mirsajadi's ears swiveled forward as he heard an answer which very definitely did not come from the throat of any adult, male or female. Thank goodness for small mercies. Adults could be so picky about things like permission and people knowing where cubs were, and they asked altogether too many questions that a cub like Mirsajadi had no desire to answer. At least, not truthfully, and lying was a slippery slope. Mirsajadi was a smart cub, but sometimes he had a hard time keeping track of what lies he'd told to whom while covering his tracks for an escape or something similar.

"Oh, well hello to you, too Arezoo," Mirsajadi greeted the banu. He checked himself and remembered: "Zoey. Sorry. I think it's the lack of a nickname that makes me have such a hard time remembering others'. Is your father home?"

As he asked this last question he tried to steal a surreptitious glance past her into the den. It was possible, after all, that she had merely been the first to hear and answer him. There could well be others, adults, lurking within and ready to drag him back to his overful den. Even as he committed this somewhat rude act, Mirsajadi was grinning, pleased to see Zoey. He liked her, and her brother, for that matter. He wished he could meet more of her family, since they seemed far easier to get along with than his own was.

"I have no idea. Do you? I just wanted to be somewhere that's not home," he answered her giggling question. He rolled his eyes and explained, "We're having Company."

Buffy_the_Bloody
When the look of recognition passed his features she grinned brightly. So he did remember! She knew he would, otherwise why would he be here at the den entrance? Then she remembered he was good friends with her brother, and she instantly wondered if maybe it was he that Mirsajadi was searching for.

"Then we just have to get you a nickname then dont we. Ill think of one one day. Dont you worry." She giggled, and looked around her, and then back into her den as he asked the question. Everyone was still out, and no one had moved into the den during her snoozing. She shook her head, her little fluff of hair at the top of her head shaking with her.

"Nope! Only little ol' me. Father and his banu are all on a little outing. I think it has something to do with alone time. I had decided to have my own alone time, and father trusts me I think." She grinned, though she knew that his trust was well placed...even if she did like to skip away from the den sometimes.

"We could, I wouldnt mind." She said about playing, but then cocked her head.
"Company? What kinda company ya gettin'?" She asked.

In a moment which might have been eerie to someone who could see the future, Mirsajadi grinned a grin which was truly charming and not merely pleased. Accompanying this grin, which was almost exactly the sort of grin he would grow up to wield against ladies to great effect, the cub said,, almost as though channeling himself as an adolescent, "Worry? I'll be living in fear until you come up with something. Nicknames can be horrible."

"I'm glad. I was hoping there wouldn't be any grown-ups. I don't think mine trust me as much as yours trust you." The flash of maturity was gone and Mirsajadi was back to being a cub. It didn't occur to him that there might be a reason adults didn't trust him. Something to do with his age, perhaps, or his habit of slipping away as often as he could, or maybe the way he twisted the truth to suit his needs.

"The kind of company that means I have to be very clean," Mirsajadi answered morosely. "Which means we can't play anything that's going to get me dirty, or I'll get a scolding and I'll have to wash again."

Buffy_the_Bloody
She liked this cub. He seemed like a true friend, and not just a friend.. but the only friend she had. Sure she got along with her siblings, and sure fathers banu were quite pleasant.. But they werent friends..or not what she would consider true friends. She needed more peers her age.
She pawed at him and then thought better of it, pulling back.

"Oh no then we dont want ya gettin' dirty. We will just have to keep ya clean." She would hate if he was scolded for having fun with her. She liked having him around, and if she got him in trouble she'd never see him again most likely! Why woul dhe show up if she was getting him into trouble.

"I think its more denial Ill do anything too severely wrong, over having alot of trust in me." She chuckled.

Mirsajadi's dark garnet eyes followed the movement of Zoey's paw, and it was with an effort that he convinced himself not to shift out of her way. No one had ever struck him, not in punishment or in anger, but he was still wary of being touched casually. Something about it just rubbed him the wrong way - literally! He knew, though, that she was just trying to be friendly, and so when she pulled her paw back of her own volition he darted one of his paws out and touched hers. He really wasn't sure why people felt the need to just touch other people. The only time he felt like doing that was when he was seeing things which weren't there, and that's how he knew whether they were real or not.

"I'm solid and real and all that." It was probably the closest he'd come to alluding to the visions he got. Mostly he tried not to think of them, since they left him so badly shaken.

"Thanks. I really don't want to go through all that again. My sisters don't think I can clean myself, and they're rough when they do it."

Buffy_the_Bloody
She smiled, remembering what he had said and chuckling once more.
"Ill be kind with the nickname I swear. No need to fear." She said and when he touched his paw to hers, she almost blushed. Sure they were just cubs, but it was something that felt intimate still. She smiled, her eyes friendly, and she nodded.

"Theyre rough huh? I am glad that my mother takes care of the bathing with me. Though I dont have to worry too much, I dont think we get company too often. When we do, its usually supposed to be just the adults." Which, that she was thankful of.

"Solid and real? Yes Id say so." She giggled. Though she was unaware that the cub had visions, and that likely would have made that make more sense. But still she was jovial, and just attempting to be friendly and understand.

Actually, seeing Zoey blush, Mirsajadi remembered part of why he didn't feel comfortable with casual contact. Pesars and pads weren't supposed to touch banu who weren't theirs. That was one of the rules the pride seemed to be enforce more laxly for cubs, but in his attempts to be the perfect son to his father, Mirsajadi had more or less trained himself to never do it, even so. The rare exception was when he was playing games which required contact, like tag.

"Sorry," he said. "Bad manners. My father would be unhappy."

His father probably wouldn't be thrilled that he had befriended one of Faiz's daughters, either. And he definitely wouldn't be pleased if he ever learned that Mirsajadi had more or less given this daughter of Faiz permission to give him a nickname. That sort of friendliness...no. It wouldn't go over well at all. Mirsajadi would just have to keep this a secret and hope his father never found out. Which made him feel very daring, but also very uneasy.

"Well. They can't feel that they're being rough, I guess, but they don't listen when I tell them so." Mirsajadi frowned. They were banu, and they were supposed to listen to him, even if he was younger.

"I don't think us cubs are supposed to do much more than be quiet and look clean. But I don't know. Everyone tells me something different, and Father's banu are out hunting, so I can't ask them." He sighed dramatically.

Buffy_the_Bloody
When he apologized for touching her paw. She almost felt bad for her cheeks having turned usch a shade of pink. She gulped, and looked down at teh earth, remembering she was supposed to be submissive around Pads and Pesars. She had a hard time remembering that, as she was more playful than submissive. She meant no harm of course but the wrong male could take it the very wrong way.

"No, Im sorry. You shouldnt be sorry because I think youre a friend." She nodded. She felt sure her mother, too, would be very unhappy that she had met and befriended a Tariq cub. Of course, her sister had gone off and became the banu of one of Mirsajadi's older halfbrothers. Mother hadnt been happy about that, though this cub didnt seem to have the same temperment mother spoke of in regards to Tariq. Zoey actually kinda liked him. Her hopes were to find a good Pad to take care of her, and one like Mirsa would have been something she would have preferred. Of course, they were both far too young to think like that, but she still could dream right?

"No, others generally tend to think they know better. 'Specially the adults. They arent always right, but ya cant tell them that." She mused.

"Well you shouldn't be sorry either. That's stupid," Mirsajadi said. He didn't finish the thought, that it was a male's job to keep females in line because they weren't intelligent enough to regulte themselves. He thought that might not go over very well with Zoey.

"Are we friends?" Mirsajadi asked. It didn't occur to him to be embarrassed about asking due to his youth, which was fortunate. Otherwise he might have been embarrassed that he had to ask at all, and that he didn't have the life experience to just know when he was someone's friend. Somehow he'd not yet felt a great need in his life for friendship, and he hadn't expected to ever make any, really. It was more important to have people listen to you and obey you than like you, right?

"We've said this before, haven't we?" Mirsajadi asked, meaning the conversation about adults not always being right. "But you're right. Grown-ups definitely don't like to hear when they're wrong. Sometimes it makes it easier if you say it like a question. Like, 'Is that supposed to go there?' But other times they think you're trying to be smart. As if being smart is bad!"

Buffy_the_Bloody
She was sure that she would blush again but she cleared her throat in an attempt to keep it hidden this time. She was tired of intimidating others because she couldnt keep her girlish blushes to herself. She nodded, and did her best to regain the conversation.

"Yes! I.. I think we're friends..Arent we?" She asked, her eyes looking into his. She ilked him and she wanted to be friends. Who knew, maybe he'd grow up to be a pad looking for a good banu. She had that going for her anyway.

"Yes, I think we have. It seems to be a common conversation, as its so very true." She said with a grin. Sure she said adults always thought they were right alot, but with new circumstances proving such everyday, it was really hard not to bring it up half the time.

Mirsajadi was about to agree, of course they were friends. But then he remembered himself. Always behave as though his father's watching. That's the only way to make it habit. He tried valiantly to suppress the smile which had spread across his face when she said they were friends and shrugged with what he hoped would look like indifference.

"I guess we are," he said, struggling in vain to sound as though he didn't care whether they were or weren't. "I wouldn't be here if I didn't like you, right? And you probably would have told on me for sneaking out if you didn't like me."

He wanted so badly to just say that they were friends, and that he'd never really had a friend before, and that was why he'd asked, and that he was so happy she'd said yes. But that would have been inappropriate behavior for a pesar. She was only a banu, after all, and pesars weren't meant to befriend banu. Even so, he'd met other pesars who had done so. Sarfraz, for instance, and even his older brother had that friend Zarha. Surely it was all right.

"That's true. But I think the next person who brings it up loses," Mirsajadi said. He was always coming up with games like this. Games he could play without anyone knowing he was playing. He liked to get others involved, so he could share secrets, but it was rare that he found someone to play with who wasn't family, and he didn't want to take any family member into his confidence.

Buffy_the_Bloody
She used her paw as if zipping her lips to keep from saying anything more about adults knowing more. She would have to refrain from such things if she wanted to win the little games. Her eyes glittered with joy, and she did her best not to jump for joy.. T hough that didnt work when she felt the need to jump up and spin in a circle, before remembering herself and stopping.

"Then yes, we're friends. I wouldnt have told on you regardless, but yes.. We are friends forever. I just know it." She grinned, and nodded nudging him gently in the shoulder with her paw, before pulling back and smiling.

She wondered when Father would be back with the banu, and what he would do if he found a cub here that was not of his own group.
"When is your company coming?" She asked.

It was too much. Mirsajadi, in spite of everything, was a cub. A precocious cub with a wide streak of competitiveness and paranoia, but a cub nonetheless. The prospect of having a friend was simply too delightful for him to feign indifference. Yes, she was only a banu, but she was the daughter of the sultan's brother, which made her more important than lots of other banus, and (more importantly) she was fun. Maybe it was because she was older than he was, but even though they'd only met rarely, Mirsajadi really felt she understood him much better than anyone else he knew.

"Forever," he echoed, liking the sound of it. Somehow the word sounded open and unfinished, as though leaving room for lots of possibilities down the road. He liked this idea. Remembering their last conversation, about how he might one day be so great there'd be people named for him, he grinned. Possibilities. "Yeah, okay."

The reminder of company brought a scowl to his face. "I don't know. No one tells me anything useful. Just to sit up straight, stay clean, don't speak unless I'm spoken to, don't fidget, and stay out of the way. Probably soon, though. I should head back."
