First move: Hit (Link) The day was hot with a clear sky, there were no clouds to be seen. Vanhi had decided to try his paw at dueling again. While he was no fighter to begin with, it did help to keep him fit for hunting and taking down large prey. And there was never a short supply of willing Firekins to duel.
Today he was fighting another. At the designated area, he stood and waited for the female to show. Once she had came into view, he dipped his head respectfully to her and introduced himself, "I am Vanhi. Thank you for accepting my challenge and I will you good luck!"
After the pleasantries, he waited till she was done before getting into the crouching position. He circled her a few times before charging in to an attack. As he leaped towards the female, he could feel his paws make contact with the female, in which he hoped, was a successful hit.

First move: Hit (link)Brenna had accepted the male's challenge with a cool nod of her head. She wasn't worried too much about this duel. It was good practice for her and she was encouraged by the active bout they would soon take part in.
Once she arrived in the area, she bowed her head in return to Vanhi's greeting and replied with her own. "I am Brenna. I also will you good luck."
She crouched and watched his movements. Then he struck, and it was indeed a hit. He had made contact with her shoulder, and angry claw marks shone through her fur. With a growl, she leaped towards him with outstretched paws, also making contact. Then she rolled away to prepare for the next strike.

Second move: Hit (Link)As his paws landed on their mark, Vanhi wasn't quick enough to get away from her as she also hit her mark on him. While the hit wasn't hard and deep, it did sting as he winced slightly. That'll be sore for a few days.
He leapt back a bit out of the way from the paws of the female. He feigned a bit here and there, to try and distract her as he went into launching his next attack. As he went to the right and around the female slightly, he went to charge towards her side and as he felt her body, he hoped that his attack landed once more.

Second Move: Miss (link)Brenna smirked to see that her strike had hit, but she was interrupted by his sudden ram into her side. He was like an elephant! The only good thing was that he didn't have sharp tusks to gore her when he had struck her.
The push struck her down, and she landed on her opposite side, shoving her onto the ground. With a growl, Brenna heaved herself back up and in a messy fit of frustration, lashed out at him with claws unsheathed.
She didn't feel anything, however, and knew that her almost desperate strike had failed. She scrambled to retreat to a safer distance.

Third Move: Miss (Link)He couldn't help but to grin as his attack struck once more. This was shaping out to be a much better fight than his previous. Perhaps it was because he was more used to the sand and the desert after living here for quite some time.
He moved away just in the nick of time as he dodged her attack. It had missed and he rolled off to the side before quickly getting to his feet to go once more at the female. As he went towards the female, he went but could feel his paws miss the mark.

Third Move: Bide (link)He missed too. That was a relief; she needed a moment to rest before she attacked again. Vanhi's last hit had really taken a toll on her body; her ribs would be sore for days. It hurt to breathe. Oh, she would have loved to scratch that grin off his face.
Brenna panted and caught her breathe, crouching and favoring instead the chance to move around a bit, preparing herself better, instead of attacking or defending. It was a well-earned chance to rest. And she took it greedily.
As she swerved to crawl the other direction, keeping her gaze on Vanhi the entire time.

Fourth move: Hit (Link) His sides were heaving slightly with all this activity. Not designed for fighting, he could feel his body start to tire quickly. This was why he couldn't be a warrior, at least, without lots of training and conditioning for his body. As his last attack didn't make it, he was able to collect himself and parry her attack just in time.
As he watched her carefully, he could see her tiring as well. She must be new to this as well. At least, this was a fairly even match on all levels then. He silently smiled inwardly at this notion.
But now was not the time to dally as he went to prepare for his next attack. As he has done her side last, he could always attack there again or trick her and go for another place. He gathered himself and launched at the female. It took but a heartbeat to feel the female's body come in contact with his own. Perhaps another good hit for him.

Fourth move: Hit (Link)Brenna let out a growl of pain as he hit her again, striking her in close to the same spot as he had barreled into her before. That stupid, dumb, lucky... she seethed in her mind, stumbling back a few steps after his latest attack. His weight almost knocked her down again. Almost.
Her eyes narrowed but she quickly caught herself again, not falling to the ground, but instead swinging her weight around, swiveling to stand again, before she launched herself at him with a loud snarl.
As she flew past him, she hoped that she had once again made contact with him.

Final move: Hit (Link])As she made contact with him, he winced slightly in pain as he moved away from her. That one definitely hurt, he was going to be sore for a few days at the very least. He shook his head slightly as he kept his eyes on the female. The battle was coming to a close.
He was breathing heavily and paused to catch his breath for a moment while keeping an eye on the female. Time to make his final move.
With all the energy that he could muster, he went on the offensive again to launch his last strike against the female. With his body tiring, he leapt at the female and hoped that his paws made contact with her body. He could feel him hitting his mark, but if it took or not, he hoped so.

Final move: Bide (Link)As the wave of his final push rippled through her body--she could feel it in her bones--she knew she was finished. Brenna was breathing hard and she had such little energy left to pull herself back up from where she had stumbled to the ground again. Her hind leg screamed at her; the fall had twisted her ankle and she couldn't put any weight on it. There were claw marks on her shoulders, a huge bruise forming on her side, and a twisted ankle.
Her first duel would end in humiliating failure.
She did not attack. Instead, Brenna stood her ground and waited strongly for his finishing blow.

Winner: Vanhi (13)
As the battle wind down, he parried her final move as he stood on the sands. With sweat dripping off of him and his sides heaving heavily, he paused to catch his breath. Today was a fantastic fight, they were evenly matched and he had won, but just barely.
He went to the female and spoke, "I have won this round," He paused, "You were a wonderful opponent, we were evenly matched today. Thank you." He thanked her gratefully with a dip of his head.
With one last thanks, he turned and walked away with a slight limp and a wince on his face towards his den. The rest of the day would be full of resting his tired body. The match went well and he was very happy. But for now, it was time to sleep and heal.

It was over; she was done. Finished. She had lost. Failed. But it was a simple loss because this male was not as important as some of her future opponents might be.
Brenna's gaze did not waver from the male's as he approached her and exchanged the customary words of a battle ended.
She bowed her head to him. "As were you. I look forward to the next time we meet in a duel. Thank you."
The lioness couldn't help the small smirk as she watched him limp away. She didn't feel so bad about losing this one. It better prepared her for more later on. Perhaps including a rematch with this one. Brenna turned and headed back to her own safe place to rest and heal. She was not looking forward to waking up and dealing with her injuries.
