I was kind of thinking that way at first, but after I considered it... 15 bucks is a pretty good deal for how many levels you're getting... what is it like, 4 or 5 zones? and 3 acts and a boss each... *shrug*

I HATE how little time I get to jump into the ring to the special stage. If I am running fast through the sign It's nearly imposible to turn around to jump into the ring in time before it cuts to the next stage.

It's so frusterating to get the end with 50 rings and not even enter the speacial stage because of this!

Looking around the internets, this game is getting a lot of hate. It's a fun game in it's own right, but everyone is nit-picking about how the physics are slightly different.

I'm pretty dissapointed in it, but mainly because of the emerald collecting. It's just frusterating to try to finish with 50 rings, and the limited time to jump into the stage makes it even worse, and top of that, the special stages aren't that fun to me. I have no problem with the physics.

I've always hated emerald collecting in the genisis games too though, so I shouln't be that surprised. But I loved it in both Sonic Rush games, so I was just hoping it would be as good as those.
I also find that the game is even slower paced then the Genisis games, which is dissapointing.

The only thing about the physics that initially weirded me out was the rope swinging on act 2 of Splash Hill. You get used to it though, and rope swinging was never in old games so you can't COMPARE IT TO THE OLD GAMESOIESIJGAOISEJOASEJGOASIJGJ

NSMB tweaked the physics from the NES games too. That doesn't make them worse.

There was rope swinging in the first level of Sonic 3, but unlike in Sonic 4, those ropes just swung on their own for some reason! BAD PHYSICS OMFG!!1

Alright, so. I feel a bit disappointed with this game, and I think the main reason for that is because it's called Sonic 4, which really heightens the expectation level. Instead, it should be called New Sonic the Hedgehog or Sonic Classic or something lame like that, 'cause it's basically made more to be reminiscent of the old games than to actually be their sequel. Back in the 90s when I was little, I imagined that there would be a Sonic 4, and it was nothing like this. It had the same old 16-bit graphics and super catchy 16-bit music. It featured Sonic and Tails (and now Knuckles, since he's no longer confused!) up against Robotnik, and there was a story! A simple story that was explained by a combo of reading the game description and watching dialogue-free cut scenes, but a story nonetheless. They'd have to defeat the new Death Egg or something. There would just be something that connects it to the other games from the original series. And most importantly, the levels would be fresh and original. Sonic 2 didn't try to copy the first game, and S3&K didn't try to copy the ones before them, either. Those games were so great because they were original (I know that Sega has been trying to make things original and failing, but that's because they've been getting stupid ideas for originality, like THEY HAS SWORD NOW or HE CAN TURN INTO A WEREWOLF LOL). Sonic 4's basically got a rip-off of Green Hill Zone, then a rip-off of Casino Night Zone, then a rip-off of Labyrinth Zone and finally a rip-off of Metropolis Zone before the final boss (an upgraded version of the final boss from Sonic 2) in space. A lot of points in the game make you think, "I remember a part that was just like this in one of the old games!" That's cool and all, but that's not what a sequel should be doing. It would just bother me a lot less if the name was different. Now I've lost hope for there ever being a sequel to the Genesis games that really lives up to AND feels like one of the originals. I just wish they'd have pulled a Mega Man 9. Now that game really feels like a true successor. They might as well just have remade the old games with new graphics instead of making a new game that feels ripped off.

Disregarding its name, though, it's a pretty decent game. It reminded me of the Sonic Advance games a little, and those were great. They didn't need to try hard to go back to their roots or whatever to be good. They just aimed to be solid platformers, is all. And Sonic 4 is a good and challenging platformer, it really is! The thing that ruins it for me is that I'm constantly reminded of the older games and how much I'd rather be playing them. sad

As for the physics, who really cares? The super short amount of time you get to jump into the Special Ring is annoying, though.

It shoulda been 500 Wii points cheaper, at least.

The ropes swing on their OWN!?

bad game

But yeah I forgot about those.

Edit: As far as your complaints go, I kind of mirror them, though I guess I'm a little more forgiving. It's true that the appearance of the stages are pretty much ripped off of old games, but I thought the actual layout of the levels was pretty clever, and very intricate. I'm hoping that they get the balls to start making levels (and bosses) completely from scratch in Episode 2, but I still had fun playing this.

I've purchased this game for my Xbox 360 system and while reading through some posts, I do agree on some such as the physics of Sonic. I always hate spinning down a slope and not gaining any speed after I launch off a ramp and I simply drop. Plus I hate when I'm running and its like Sonic just stops just because you let go of the stick or d-pad instead of slowing down. All in all, this is a great game to play.
