TIER 1: The Grunnies
Stomping through the snow, a dark haired woman navigates the unused pathway slowly, carefully placing her booted feet down with each step in a manner that would suggest she was avoiding catching herself on upturned roots and icy spots. UP ahead of her, two small dogs barked joyously as they frolicked through the snow, the cold temperature and wet flakes doing little to dim their enthusiasm.
Vitahli peered up after a particularly loud yip, habitually reaching up to adjust her hat, which had fallen into her line of vision and had a bad habit of dislodging itself atop her head.
"Benny! Jack!" She called out; both dogs took a moment to look over their shoulders at her, Jack even giving enough effort to c**k his head to the side. Benny panted, before sprinting off a bit further ahead and collapsing into a bank of downy snow.
"Biff! Biff!" Jack yelped at his companions, one ahead of him and the other making slow progress towards him. Jack stood a moment before taking off after Benny, jumping on him as soon as he was within reach. A very offended yip resounded and Vitahli found herself smiling toothily at the antics of her canine companions.
The path of which she and the two dogs were taking stretched in an awkward manner through a thick patch of woods, thin and thick trees of varying colors and sizes surrounding them on all sides. Ash birch with peeling bark glistened with crystallization, elms and maples both rough and smooth but altogether darkened by the winter cold. Dogwood hedged itself here and there and scotch pines, with their intimidating heights and shredded deep brandy bark loomed overhead, branches sloping low with the weight of piled snow.
Vitahli took all of this in with an air of awe; the imagery reminded her of a classic winter landscape, or something out of The Tales of Narnia. Through the quiet cleanness of the woods came an usual sound. Vitahli cocked her head to the side, eyes squinting as she tried to discern what the sounds could be. Benny and Jack stopped playing around too, stopping to listen, before Jack emitted a series of low, aggressive growls.
Suddenly he took off into the thicket, Benny giving an encouraging yelp as Vitahli immediately began calling out his name. The wait for him would not take long.
Bursting forth from the thicket came Jack, dead leaves and broken twigs adorning his coat, and hot on his heals was a small group of acid green creatures. Red eyed and with an air of insidious intent, the three creatures slowed to a halt after Jack and turned their eyes on Vitahli.
What are those things? Vitahli wondered to herself, as called her dogs back to her. With zBenny and Jack at her side, the three of them took a moment to assess these three strange animals. A minute, maybe less, passed before the first of the three animals let out a screeching yowl before shooting off directly at Vitahli!
And that's when Benny jumped in--Grunny:
