User ImageAneesia had adapted as well as she possibly could have after the incident that left her deaf. She trained her nose, she kept track of which way was down-wind, and she was ever observant. Despite this she had her unfortunate run ins, her close calls, and her lost meals. Today, Aneesia had managed to lose another meal and her stomach was unforgiving about it.

"AUGH." Aneesia groaned loudly, though she could not even hear her own voice. She did know she was talking though, from the vibrations in her throat and the memorization of past conversations, "Why can' food stay shtill."

Another issue she had since the incident was the slur in her speech. It made her feel self conscious when she tried to communicate with someone, so often times she communicated through little pictures or pointing. When alone was when she would speak, and only to complain to herself.

Some black and white lioness had made the mistake and had the misfortune of wandering too close to the demon lands, and one of the demon princes had not missed noticing. He had been lurking behind her for a good little while now, and he could hear both her stomach growl and her slurred speech. His ears perked forward at the voice, and he couldn't understand what would make her sound that way. He had been creeping silently, but he didn't know it was all in vain.

He picked up his pace so he could follow her all the closer in case she spoke again.

Aneesia had picked up some time ago that she was close to pridal lands. The scent of many different lions flooded her nose wherever she had went, but after awhile she had gotten used to the smell. She had also taken her time to look about her when she hit the first wave of smells, but she never saw anyone follow her and no one smell stood out. She assumed she had been safe. She assumed wrong.

Phlegyas would be able to sneak up to her without much effort, getting so close he could practically clout her there and than, Aneesia was oblivious. With no sound being made by him, she could not hear him. Even if he had made a lot of sound she probably wouldn't hear him. Her right ear was completely deaf, and her left could only hear when directly yelled into it. If she was being hunted as prey, she'd have been dead by now.

"No food, no food," She muttered to herself, her volume control non-existent. When she spoke, she liked to hear herself, even if it meant yelling at the top of her lungs. It was the only thing that even let her know she had some semblance of hearing left. She needed to know what she was saying was real and not imaginary. She wanted to know the sounds coming from her voice weren't fake. "No food, but sho many bones."

Phlegyas stopped dead in his tracks for an instant. His brow furrowed and his expression was confused, to say the least. Why on earth had she yelled? Did she know he was behind her and that was her way of asking for food. He picked back up following her, but slowly and examining her with his red, calculating eyes. As she was obviously not a pride member, he shrugged and figured it his duty to accost her. And if he got his way, to perhaps make her his slave.

His pace picked up until he walked along her right side, matching her pace, and he spoke.

"So you're complaining about a lack of food on my pride's lands? That's rather rude for a guest, don't you think?" He tilted his head and looked down at her. He was quite a large lion, his now deceased father Iar having been quite impressive in his day, and the blood of his goddess mother, Posca only added to his stature. Not knowing of the lioness' disability, he looked at her expectantly, waiting for an answer.

Aneesia had not heard him, but quickly felt him as he spoke. His breath had hit her face and she had become quickly aware of Phlegyas's presence over her and jumped, stumbling over herself. When did he get there? How had she missed him? Aneesia's hackles stood on end, every white and black hair on her body making her look like a little prickly cactus. Her heart beat so loudly she could feel it in her ears.

Regaining her footing, Aneesia faced the unknown male and beared her teeth at him growling. She hoped that unwillingness and aggression would make him go away, but boy was she barkin' up the wrong tree. She had gotten herself into a spit of danger that would not be escapable. If only she knew what lands she had roamed on, she would have stayed so very clear of them.

"Who'r you?! What do you want?" She spat, knowing very well that she couldn't hear him, or his answer.

The prince was further confused by her reaction. He hadn't been that stealthy. He hadn't tried to be. When she showed aggression towards him, he stood back and laughed. He was not intimidated at all. He tutted and stepped closer, and began circling the female. Yes, it was rather unfortunate for her that so much of her body was pale or white, but perhaps his genes could dominate those flaws...

Tossing his forelock out of his eyes, he looked at her and announced, "I'm Phlegyas, a prince of these lands and the demons that inhabit them. And I'd like to know why a lioness such as yourself is wandering around such a dangerous pride. Why don't I escort you to safety?" He stepped closer again and gave her a charming, seductive smile.

And by 'escort you to safety', he of course meant 'take you into slavery as mine and use you to create the perfect family that I never had'.

Aneesia kept her aggression face on, but it was plagued with confusion and nervousness as she attempted to read the words that appeared over Phlegyas's lips. He talked too damn fast! She could barely make out half of what he said.

The confusion only grew on her face until she let out a frustrated cry, "Talk shlower! I can' make out what you'r shaying!"

When he stepped closer, Aneesia stepped back, attempting to keep space in between them. She felt the need to run, but was so nervous she froze. She needed to snap out of it and get away. She didn't like that look on his face, and she wanted to swipe it right off him.

Phlegyas cocked his head, a surprised look on his face, but he cleared his throat and went on. "I'm one of the demon princes of these lands. Who are you? Where are you from?" He thought her answer might tell him why she spoke that way. He advanced when she stepped back, all the more curious about this lioness. Her attempt at ferocity was rather cute to him, as she couldn't pull it off well, if at all. To him, it was like the way a cub tried to act, or the way his other slave, Midas tried to act tough. It was just impossible.

"Aneeshia. My names Aneeshia," She said, concentrating as she tried to form what he said coherently, her hackles lowering as she was far too preoccupied trying to understand him to be able to multitask looking threatening. Her voice got louder once again as she tried to hear herself, thinking maybe she wasn't even talking at all, "I'm Aneeshia!"

She thought she read 'prince' and 'land' when he spoke, so he must be trying to tell her these are his lands. Just great, another entitled male thinking that they can tell her what to do and how to act. One was already responsible for her current state, what did she need with another male?

"I'm from nohwhar! It's none of your conshern!" She said, deciding she's had enough attention from this male and started forward to pass him. She needed to leave this place before other males were alerted to her presence. The last thing she needed was another beating by one.

An ear flicked backwards when she yelled. He smiled, "No need to raise your voice. It's nice to meet you, Aneeshia. I'm Phlegyas." He furrowed his brows. Why wouldn't she say where she was from? He trotted along behind her before catching up to her right side. "What's your rush? Why don't you stay and let me show you around a little bit?" He gave her another winning smile and nodded his head in the direction of his lands, specifically, his lair.

He didn't mean to harm "Aneeshia", at least not physically. He'd beat down any demon that tried to touch her. He didn't think at all about the potential psychological consequences. He'd started off nice enough and resisted the demons with every fiber of his being, but it took over and consumed him. But he wouldn't let that happen to her, no. He'd protect Aneeshia. If he could get her to go back to the pride with him, that is...

She barely caught his name when she passed him on her left side. Something with a ph-sound in it. That was weird, she never met anyone with a name starting with a p. At least it was unique. She hadn't noticed him following after her once again, or what he had said afterwards, it wasn't until she tripped on a rock, and subsequently back into him that she noticed his presence there again.

"Why'r you following me?" She said, her frustration starting to cause her speech to slur even worse. She was beginning to feel overwhelmed by his presence and his inability to take a hint and it was draining on her. She was hungry, and now she was tired.

That little bump sent Phlegyas into a vision of Aneesia's past. He didn't hear her when she asked why he persisted following her, instead, he stopped where he stood and his eyes glazed over.

What he Saw was a younger Aneesia and a male. From the affection they showed each other, he concluded they must have been mates, as they looked too different to have been related. He couldn't make out what they said, but from watching Aneesia over flashes of days and nights, she seemed jealous and suspicious of her mate. Eventually, he concluded that she knew of another lover. He watched as she followed him one day and confronted her mate and the "other woman". She struck out at the other lioness with such a ferocity that it made him second guess his first impression of her.

Outside of the vision Phlegyas' eyes grew wider as he continued to See.
The lion he thought to be her mate lashed out and retaliated against the lioness he was supposed to have loved and been loyal to. And all of the sudden, the noises quieted, as though he was now watching the vision from a great distance, or like he had something covering his ears.
The vision began to fade, and he blinked hard as he began to realize that Aneesia was mostly or entirely deaf because of her former mate. For a moment, he didn't know what to say, but knew that the next thing he thought of he'd have to say loudly.

"Aneesia." He spoke loudly and caught up to her, facing her so she could read his lips. "Come back with me. Let me help you. I'll get you food." He tried to speak slowly and clearly and loudly for her. He didn't pity her. He was too far gone into the demons to pity anyone, anymore. But now he understood her better, and wanted her all the more. "I won't let anyone attack you again."

Aneesia would have struck out again for the annoyance this male was causing her, but she was caught off guard by him. He was talking loudly enough that she could make him out quietly in the ear that could still hear some, and her jaw had gone slack from what she had heard. Did he just say he wouldn't let anyone attack her again? How would he know she had been attacked? How did he know he had to speak up for her to actually hear him? He hadn't done so before.

Confusion riddled her face as she grew more upset. She took a step toward him, "How d'you know? How d'you know I can' hear?"

She was hungry, she was tired, she was confused and upset. Though she was focused on how he knew she was deaf, or had been attacked, the rest of his words, the offer he had presented, weren't gone from her mind. Her stomach was currently answering what her mind was too preoccupied to and growled loudly, the sound of days without food chiming through. She'd give anything for food right now.

Phlegyas' expression turned soft. "My mother was a goddess. I Saw your past in a vision."
It was all too easy for him now. He was able to empathize and she felt like he understood her. He did, but his motives were still dark.

"Come with me, Aneesia. I'll give you a warm place to spend the night and a good meal. Just follow me, stick close, and don't talk to anyone."

When he finished speaking, he nodded and motioned for her to follow behind him. He'd have Midas catch a hare or something for his new guest while he attended to her and answered any questions she had. The warm place to stay was of course his personal den. He was setting her up to be a slave and a mother, but she would be unaware of his plans for some time, or at least until there was no going back.

What had he just said? His mother was a goddess? He... he saw her past? He had seen her being beaten so terribly by the one man who promised her the world. Her darkest secret was forever a memory in his mind. She felt like she could collapse right there and sob if it wasn't for the fact her stomach disallowed such things.

Aneesia wasn't even sure what she was doing at the moment, she was so lost in her mind, but the rest of her knew what she was doing and that was following the sweet faced male back to a warm bed and a meal she hadn't tasted in days. When her mind would finally come back to her she would be well rested, well fed, and more confused than she was before. For now, it was just best to follow quietly.

The end.
