Mortanius_Necromancer I use McAfee Total Protection... That or Norton, though the later one is a really pain in the a** on RAM (as in: your computer will go slow as hell even though the CPU is running at full power). As for the virus, if it's system core that's busted it shouldn't be difficult to fix it (I've done it like 10 times already with no prior "schooling", and the pc always worked afterwards). But if it's BIOS that is infected/damaged (and viruses like that do exist) might as well get a new computer (cuz BIOS is stored on the motherboard), since while it is fixable it's like having a car that had a cracked engine block... It will worked, but never as good :/ Anyways, best of luck... And it's always important to invest in good anti-virus and firewall biggrin I,for one, know that there's not a porn site on the net I fear to visit rofl
The compaq has norton, the dell which is still dead has/had mcafee, with massive fire walls and crap.
About a year ago Gaia it's self gave my dell a virus, which was quarantined but not able to be removed... ether it got lose or I picked up a new one when I was modding or something... (tip kiddies, if you wanna become a mod get an insainly GOOD anti-virus...)

I only had dealt with Acer, Lenovo, and Toshiba. Personally, I like Toshiba the most, but that's just a personal preference. Lenovo is not half bad either.
McAfee kicks a** in my opinion as an anti-virus but it all comes down to usage ( I moderate every single thing in my house, including the wireless network so I "tuned up" everything a bit). Norton has a really solid firewall (though it can be a p***k on memory use sometimes) but it's anti-virus is a literal nightmare (1. it's a memory devourer and 2. it's not that good either). Usually when it is quarantined but not removable it's a system file (good 50% of the cases), or virus intentionally messed up the system registry (happens too). In most cases I just over-write the file with a "healthy" one, or manually remove the p***k if it's something I'm not too concerned about. I never had a problem on Gaia with viruses, though there was a time when password phishing on forums was just terrible (using an active re-direct script in sigs to "password -phish"). Either way, there is nothing that the good old "delete [drive:][path]filename" can't solve (when using Win 2000 or XP recovery console) blaugh

My dell was fixed by my grandfather last time, he worked for IBM for years building computers/programs/stuff so I trust him with mine...
The virus I had last time was a nasty little thing that attached it's self to something in the registry that if removed it will completely kill the computer. This time it's a simple one, but I just don't trust myself enough to remove it...

Toshiba? A nightmare? Lol,why? ninja
Mhhhmmm... That sounds weird, since registry is only related to OS and not the computer itself (I mean yeah, it stores boot-up files and drivers, but that can be manually over-written so it would only mess up the system/system core if someone really tried, not the pc itself :/ ) Virus removal is simple enough, though it can be a p***k especially with damaged system core, but it is still fixable. I know what most computer places do is "ghost" (70$ for Symantec's, but it's pretty much useless to someone who does not own a computer shop, or does not mess around with computers themselves that much) the hard-drive, recover whatever the user wants and format the hell out of the drive (which can be done as long as BIOS is not damaged, because than it becomes a tad more difficult, since we are not dealing with a damaged drive but a damaged motherboard). The best way to fix a computer though (as long as it's not a physical damage, cuz that requires part replacements and with a integrated motherboard is just hell) is to have a 2nd one and fix one through another. I miss the old days though, had a Intel 80486 (i486 or simply 486) running with MS DOS (either 5 or 6 ,can't remember, until my father upgraded it to Win95). Pretty much every part of this PC was replaceable, and it had a floppy disk drive (didn't get a CD-ROM drive until late 90's razz ) rofl But by today's standards, that's ancient history emo
Ps. No matter what anyone says, Win95 was the best OS I have ever came across. It was stable as hell, more friendly than MS DOS, and it was easy to use for both "casual users" and hard-core pc fanatics... For me Microsoft died with Win XP, afterwards I believe they begun to make systems "by morons, for morons"... And at least for some time I won't touch either Vista or Windows 7, because I like my computer working xp
