The sun was barely peek up on the horizon, but Nanashi had already taken guard outside of the royal den. His mate and cubs – it still felt like an odd dream, being able to refer to them like that – were sleeping soundly in the den behind him. He had woken up early, and been unable to return to sleep, so instead of lazing around like he had been tempted to do, he had left the den to stand guard, at least until the sun came up. Then he would do his rounds of the pride, checking on people and making sure the slaves and grunts were beginning their duties when they should.
He stifled a yawn, the lack of sleep tugging at his mind. For a second, he contemplated sneaking back into the den and curling up next to Nyoka – but he shrugged off the thought quickly. No! He needed to take on the responsibilities of the pride. With the cubs so young, Nyoka needed to focus on them, not on the pride. Nanashi could handle it. He had to handle it.
He glanced back at the den, wondering if he would be able to see their outlines in the shadows of the den, but they were tucked to far back, so all he saw was darkness.

 Hosoku was a light sleeper but the peaking rays of the sunlight woke him up. He liked to sleep in front of his family because he had to protect them like his father. But who dare mess with the royal family hybrids that’s who. Well at least that’s what he thought. His parents put them to work as slaves; if it were him he would kill them all.
To Hosoku his father was his idol, he could always look up to his father, like many young dreams he wanted to be just like him.
The rays from the sun cause the royal cub to begin to squirm. He wasn’t a morning cub but he had to look out for his family. He peeled his eyes open and allowed the blinding rays to cloud is vision for a moment as he yawned. As his vision cleared he saw the outline of his father at the head of the den, he slowly rose to his paws and groggily wobbled over to him and sat next to him.
“Hi dad….” Another yawn escaped him and he began to position himself to look like a mini mirrored image of his father. He would look up and try to mimic his father tail movement to the expression on his face.

Nanashi glanced up with some surprise to hear a small voice address him, but glancing down he was somehow less surprised to find Hosoku there with him. The others were likely sleeping peacefully, and even though Hosoku looked like his body would much prefer to be sleeping, there he was, awake - sort of.
"Hello Son," he greeted him, with a small smile on his face, secretly amused to see his son mimic him, but pleased.
"Did I wake you?" He asked. He had been quiet when he rose, but Hosoku did not sleep deeply.

Hosoku shook his head, "No i was already awake." He was half the truth, he was awake but his father gave him a reason to actually get up. He looked up at his father, his role model and the boss of the pride.
What were you gonna do today? He hope it was something he could participate in, he always loved to spend time with his father because one day he wanted to rule the pride. He knew he wasn't the heir to the title but he hoped he could convice his parent that he was better then his brother. I was wondering if ic ould join you today? He looked up into his fathers eyes. He hoped he would say yes, all Hosoku wanted was to be like his father...

Nanashi knew he should be surprised that his young son had been awake at such an hour, but it was not a bad habit to get into - Mkodi knows Nanashi had early starts most morning, rising before most others in the pride.
He was pleased at his son's interest in his duties though - if only some of the others were interested too. Perhaps he should take them all out to show him the ways of the pride? That was an idea, he supposed. But for now, he focused on Hosoku. "I'm attending to my own and your mother's duties today," he told her, "so that she may focus on your siblings without disturbance."
He eyed his son who stared up at him, his hope clear. He gave a small smile and bobbed his head. "Of course, son. However it will be quite a busy day, so you will need to be able to keep up. I cannot slow my pace for you, however if find yourself tired than I can ask a fighter to escort you back to your mother." He wouldn't want to exhaust his son, even if it was good training for when he was older.

Hosoku let another big yawn escape him, yes he was tired but that was mainly because he had just woken up. He knew once he started following his father with his duties he would wake up more.
Hosoku smiled, "I'm okay with that, mommy does need rest~~" He nuzzled his father's leg a bit before returning to his up-right posture. He couldn't show weakness, his father never did from what he saw.
"Thats okay, i can keep up." He knew he might not be able to but he had to try, he wanted to show his father that he could run the pride one day; he had to show he was the best choice so he can beat his brothers out.

Nanashi smiled, surprised but pleased at the nuzzle his son gave his leg. Now, he wasn't the most affectionate when it came to cubs, but he was pleased none the less. In a rare display of fatherly affection, he nuzzled his son's head, lightly messing up the tuft of fur. "Yes she does," Nanashi agreed, chuckling, glad his son agreed.
He still worried for his mate, but their cubs were not unruly and they did have others that could tend to them when Nyoka felt too tired, so he was sure that she would be able to rest - eventually.
"It's alright if you can't at any point," Nanashi said, shifting on his feet and giving his son a serious look. "When I was your age, I could not walk as far as I can now. One step for me is like four for you." He didn't want to talk down to his son, but he didn't want Hosoku pushing himself too far simply to keep up. "You tell me if you tire, understood?" Perhaps by making it a command, he might actually hear from his son when he grew tired.

Hosoku relunctently agree with his father's demands; but would he listen to them. Probably not, if he want to be the leader one day he would have to show no weakness. What is father said was true, Hosoku would probably have to run to keep up with him but he still had to try. "I understand dad~~" He breifly looked down before looking back up into his fathers eyes.
"So what happens if i can keep up?" A smile grew across his face, he said it in an almost mocking tone. He wasnt expecting anything he just meant it as some light-hearted fun. His tail flicked back and forth egar to spend some time with his father.

Nanashi nodded, pleased when his son did understand. He wanted a son to follow in his footsteps, but he did not want them to injure themselves for aiming too high at such a young age.
He chuckled at his son's smile and tone. "Well, then you'll get a reward," He responded, his own tone slightly teasing. "A big long nap when we return to the den." If Hosoku did manage to keep up, he'd be exhausted by the time that Nanashi returned to the den for any length of time. The nap would likely seem a great reward then, but at the moment, it was probably an unappealing idea.

Hosoku smiled, his tail flicking back and forth. Today was going to be good he knew before but now he could feel in himself. He jumped up to his feet and began jumpng back and forth in front of his father. He was ready he coud do this. He would make his father proud.
"Cmon~~ Im ready!" He was so excited, this was a test. One of many he felt he would have to prove to his dad if he wanted to rule one day. He continued jumping until his father would follow. He had alone of energy. He would prove to his dad that he could do it, he had the energy the strengh and the will power.
He was ready for anything he dad was going to do. He wouldn't show weakness, but as he promised his did if he grow to tired to continue he would tell his father. But he felt if he did that his siblings might ridicule him so that was a very last option. "Well are you coming dad?"

Nanashi withheld a laugh at his son's boisterous energy. Oh, the boy was so playful, so full of life. He loved spending time with his cubs for that reason, they were all so perfect and Hosoku seemed so eager to learn - if only they were all that eager, he thought fondly, though did not doubt that most if not all would tag along with him on his duties if given the chance. They all needed to learn the pride inside out, as they were of the most important bloodline within the pride.
"I'm coming," he said, unable to resist a fond chuckle, as he set off down the hill towards the lower levels of the pride where the slaves and grunts would be beginning to stir, keeping his pace slow and leisurely for his son to keep up with, but being careful not to make his intentionally slow pace too noticeable. He would enjoy the day with his son, he mused fondly, and set off on his duties, his son at his heels.
