Smeagol was riding on the back of Zii'moto as they searched. Searching wasn't the job of Zii'moto at all, but water was starting to be a little more scarce and smeagol wasn't capable of going without water for long, as her skin was white as the sky and she was cold blooded. She could easily dry up in the sun. Zii wouldn't allow that. Not one bit. So onward they walked, towards a well known source of water, just enough for Smeagol to slither into and cool off. Just for a moment.
"Slither so your head is under my neck Smeagol... It's too hot for you to be on my back this whole time... Not under this sun!" She said, lifting her chin to allow the snake access to the little shade she could offer.
"Yess. Hot..." The snake replied, slithering round her comrades neck and positioning her head under her chin, nuzzling her softly. "Heat isssss going to kill many snakes like thissss." She added, looking around.
Zii sped herself up, padding quickly to the trickling water. She stepped her front paws into the water and dipped down her head to drink. As she did, Smeagol slithered off her neck and into the water, to the bottom where she sat for a moment, staring up at Zii with her thoughtful eyes. Zii took only a few laps, enough to stave her thirst. She didn't like the idea of gorging herself when others would need it. She looked down at smeagol.
"Feel better?" She asked, looking down at her snake friend with a smile; happy to give her familiar a much needed cool down. She felt more and more guilty about not having the water closer to the dens, to give smeagol relief. "I am worried about you smeagol dear... you are so pale the sun affects you so much. You burn easily too..." She said, sitting down and gazing at the piebald snake. "I will have to start leaving you in the dens."
Smeagol slithered and lifted her head out of the water, flicking her tongue. "Iss not a worry. I usssssually get fluidssss from my prey... prey isssssss ssssscarcer... but I make due." She said, bobbing her head on the surface; her lower half still submerged. Her pale body blended well with the sun illuminated water, as it trickled through the desert. Her yellow capped head flicked water drops from her unlided eyes. "I worry about you too Zsssii.... You don't drink enough... though lately you have been happier with the baby."
Smeagol called Zii's child 'the baby' almost since the child was born. "And with Kich. What changed your attitude Zssii?" Smeagol asked, slithering to be under the shade that cam from Zii's form over the water. She slithered around the lionesses paws, which were still submerged.
Zii blinked lightly and lowered her head. "Do you remember the rock I visit often and shared many memories with my sister?

Zii looked down to the snake and heard her words-and cautiously approached them. She hadn't told anyone about her encounter with the goddess, as she had promised. She hadn't wanted the pride to know she had allowed a stranger into the lands without chasing her off. She bit her lip, looking away from the snake for a moment. She wasn't sure if she wanted to tell smeagol, whom she loved and trusted with all her heart. "Smeagol... if I say something to you... you must promise to never ever tell anyone. Not a soul. Not Azar or Kich or anyone." She looked seriously down at the snake.
She lowered her front half into the water up to her elbows, her face before the snake. 'A lioness came to me on the edge of the border. She was lilac colored, and had wings. She explained that she was a goddess... the goddess of Mothers. She had sensed my need. That I wanted to love them like I loved Rowtag. She gave me a gift-something that helped. She pulled a feather from her wings and gave it to me-as soon as I touched it... I felt different. I felt the need to run to Kich and my daughter and embrace them... she said that as long as I had the feather, either on me or hidden-i would feel this way. And when i no longer needed it, it would leave me. Or I can get rid of it if I don't need it anymore."
Smeagol gazed up at her thoughtfully. "Sssso you have thissss feather? On you?" She asked, looking up and down and not seeing any feather.
"No... I hid it at that rock... where Azar and I played as cubs. It is under the rock in a small hole, I tucked it there." She paused and seemed thoughtful. "I hid it. I was skeptical at first... but she then appeared to me as My mother No. IN an instant. I blinked and she was no longer purple but black." She bent down and and offered her neck to the snake. "Come Smeagol..."
Smeagol slithered around Zii's neck slowly. "Well then... I think it was a blessssing. I will tell no one. I promissss Zii." She said softly, tucking her head under the white lionesses neck. "Letsss go home to the den then." She said softly, a small smile on her scaly face. She snuggled against her. "That goddessss was a blessing... Hmmm... Well... assss long assss the feather is ssssafe you are happy. And that makessss me happy." She said, tickling Zii's ear with her tail.
Zii smiled, standing up and shaking her front paws off the water. Turning from the waters edge, she began to walk back towards the den sites. "Yes. She is a kind lioness... someday I want to return the favor. If I could name my next daughter Nyasambe I would." She laughed. "Then I would have to explain everything to everyone though... which would be rather awkward." She laughed as smeagol giggled under her chin.
