Laertes’ considered the green-eyed lioness’ words carefully, nodding when she began to follow him. He wondered briefly if Maua’s amiability could be nothing more than a well rehearsed façade and the thought didn’t particularly please him. Well, at the very least, the Lady seemed to have genuinely liked him or she wouldn’t talk about him with one of her daughters, now would she? Still, he made a point to remember not to take Lady Maua lightly.

“Mmm, my mother? Oh, no no. I came alone, quite alone. I lived with my parents, my siblings and a few older relatives. Something like a little pride, I suppose. One of my brothers and I decided to leave the nest – so to speak – but we parted ways when we realized we wanted very different things. He wanted to keep travelling and see the world and I was looking for an interesting place to settle down.” Perhaps he should be more careful regarding the personal information he shared so willingly but it was easy to talk to Raziela. Her interest in the Player activities was rather endearing.

“Ah, the theater it is then! Let’s go see what the Players are up to!” Laertes said cheerfully, a little bounce suddenly infiltrating his steps as he moved forward

"Do you miss them, then, your family?" The idea of living so far apart from the lions she had grown up with was such a strange one for Raziela. She understood that there were times when a lion grew up to realize that they needed a change of environment - her own sister Nyota had done as much - and it seemed a perfectly legitimate desire, but to move somewhere new, to enter into the vast world beyond all alone without quite knowing what was waiting? She couldn't quite imagine that. As busy as her parents were now, at least she felt safe in the knowledge that she could still turn to them if ever she had troubles - some of them, anyway. Certainly, there were issues that she couldn't quite discuss with her parents for fear of throwing Maua into a terrible rage. "I imagine it would be difficult to adjust, after having lived with so many relatives. Of course, I wouldn't know much about it," she said with a small laugh. "So I probably shouldn't be one to talk."

She felt a sudden warmth as she glanced over at Laertes and noticed the sudden spring in his step. It seemed as though he shared some of her fascination with the Players, and the mere thought made her feel more comfortable. Perhaps someday she would even introduce him to Derasan. She imagined that Laertes would quite enjoy the pale lion's company - but she was getting ahead of herself. A step at a time, that was how she needed to take it. She had only just gotten over her initial surprise at the purple lion's apparent lack of pretense, and it certainly wouldn't do to go rushing into a potential friendship.

“I do miss them. Sometimes I wish I could just get up and look for my parents’ den like I always did.” It definitely hadn’t been easy at first but his mother had prepared him right. She’d made sure her children had both the ability and knowledge to survive in the harshest conditions even before Laertes had even thought of setting off on his own. Compared to the rogue lands, the Suka'Fumo spoiled the purple lion in every possible way. “But I needed to stand on my own paws and leaving was the best decision I made. It’s easier now that I made a few acquaintances. I just need a few good friends now and I’m all set.”

He gave the lioness a little laugh followed by a playful wink. It wasn’t very nobly of him but then again he was a Guard so it might pass as acceptable behavior. He had had some minor issues adjusting with all the ranks and privileges and prejudice at first but adjusting to a new situation was something Laertes usually did with ease. He was a social chameleon of sorts.

"Well, I can help you with that," Raziela said brightly. Though she extended the offer lightly, she quite meant it. There were too many ways in which a creature could feel lonely in a pride like theirs, and - thinking like the Noble girl raised by Maua - there were a great many upsides to establishing connections through friendships, real or not. Hers, she offered genuinely, though she knew too well that many others of her rank would not.

She had never been one of those lions, the ones that gave only to receive. There were moments when her genuine efforts had been met with shallower returns, and while that was a shame, she had never held such actions against anyone. Their society had taught them to behave as such, after all, and what had been for many years before her time would continue to be long after she was gone. But with Laertes, she reckoned that perhaps it would be different. His life hadn't been quite the same, and his attitudes were different from those of most other creatures of his rank. So maybe it would be different with him - more real, a friendship that went deeper than shallow smiles and phony words.

If it so happened that she was wrong, Raziela would accept it and move on, but until then, she was willing to give it a try, to put in the time and effort to cultivate a real friendship. Who knew, perhaps she would be thankful for it someday - not for any sort of social standing, but for something simpler: a shoulder to lean on, maybe, or a helping hand. There were boundless possibilities, and though nothing in life was a guarantee, she quite looked forward to the day that she might explore them.
