Gabriel quickly scans the room without appearing to. He takes special note of places in the shadows and other places for an ambushed. You never know if there are more assassins or ninjas waiting to come at you. Always healthy to know the areas as well use in battle to surprise your opponent as well.
He gives off a charming smile before leaping to the center of the room meeting his opponent. He gives a bow of respect then relaxing not changing his stance. It always throws his opponent off when he does not take a martial art pose to give away his style making them think he was not ready for the fight ahead. Once more he smiles to her waiting for her first move. He pays attention to her body language as well as her eyes. You can always tell when they are about to move before they do by the tightness of muscles.

Shizuka was unarmed. This was a contest of hand-to-hand skill only, no risk of death or injury beyond broken bones. She bowed back to him, and with no warning, not even a tightening of muscles-she was experienced enough to be a sensei, she could hide her tells-she snapped out her foot, aiming for his side. She didn't dare think that his relaxed posture meant he was unready. He wouldn't have gotten this far into the temple if he were uncautious, and Mai (Shizuka was in on the Angelique's little game) would not be guiding him herself either.

Gabriel barely had time to dodge his opponent's kick. Oh this one was good. More than good to his reasoning. She showed no sign of tensing which could mean real trouble and fast. Good thing he had a few tricks up his sleeve. He went to do a kick and at the last moment pulled it back to instead kick out with the other foot. His mind kept track of everything happening and working through possible moves that might work. At least he did not have to worry about holding back, though that would also mean she would not either. He kept his charming smile and his body relaxed while going through moves without needing to think on how to execute them. It was instinctual. Its what would keep him alive. If you worried about every move you make or how the other would respond then you would never survive.

Shizuka split the difference between dodging to either side by flipping backwards to dodge his kick, then spinning on her foot and snapping a kick towards his stomach. "I understand you've met one of my students." She said. There was a slight tension in her voice, as if she were trying to keep it level and under control. "Kikyou."

Gabreil keeps moving let letting her get a shot at him. When she mentions Kikyou who he has a strong fondness for he merely nods his head. He was not going to show weakness, especially in a fight. Maybe they could talk afterwards. Just not right then. He was curious about Kikyou's teacher though. She was very precise in her movements and gave little away, expect that is when involving Kikyou. He had a feeling that if he kept quite on this subject matter she might get more deadly.

Shizuka kept up with him, throwing quick kicks and punches and lapsing back into silence. Finally, she went in for what ought to be a very final blow, snapping out one foot hard. She left herself slightly off-balance to put the necessary force behind the kick.

Gabriel moves with dancer like grace and was quick to dodge her kick that looked rather nasty. He then does a foot sweep to tip her over as well as a final move of punching downwards yet, stayed his punch at last moment looking her in the eyes. "You are good." He softly says. "Would you like to talk now that the fight is over?" He asks her as he offers her his hand to stand up.

Shizuka grinned behind her mask. "Very nice." She said. "You have passed." She slithered away from him and stood up. "Let me make one thing clear to you, boy. Should you hurt my student-and I will know if you do-next time we meet, I will not be unarmed, and it will not just be a spar to test your abilities. Understood?"

Gabriel bows respectfully to her as she stood up. He nods that he understood her warning though he had no plans to let anything happen to Kikyou. She was fast becoming important to him. He looks around him feeling someone's eyes watching him. "Come out. I know your there."

Maru stepped out from the darkness and gave Gabriel a sharp nod and jerk of the head. He had waited to observe the fight between the two of them, but now he was back on the move, as supernaturally quick as before.

Gabriel saw his 'guide' come out of the shadows having obivously watched the spar he had with Kikyou's teacher. He would bet that Kikyou's teacher would take special intrest in training any kits Kikyou should have. He ponders for a brief moment why that thought had sprung into his head. He noticed his guide dart off again and started to tail in the shadows making sure to keep an eye out for danger.

Maru darted down the path, using magic to activate some of the traps behind him. Gabriel would have to either disarm them or dodge, if he saw them coming at all.
