Mtu yawned as she stretched out her limbs and carried her muscled body to all four paws. She and Muu had been spending much of their time in their small, bone littered den since arriving in the pack lands. She was not fond of it, not at all. Things had grown boring here and that was never good. She moved just a bit to Muu's lounging form before nuzzling her head into his neck and then taking an ear between her teeth and tugging. It was both an affectionate and slightly violent gesture, something Muu was used to at this point.
"Muu I'm- " "bored? Mm." he finished for her, smirking. Sometimes it unnerved the other hyena's with which the pair's minds linked up. They were often mistaken for siblings, twins that did not bare the same markings. Rarer were the times they were mistaken for lovers or mates, but they were none of these things. They were beyond such simple relationships, and both seemed to underhand this. "well then we should go find" "something to do, yes." the female mumbled, already sounding less bored. She waited for Muu to rise before they both headed out of the den.
It wasn't long before the pair could see a lone hyena in the distance, two other creatures by his side. "filthy things." Muu's words echoed her thoughts and she chuckled darkly before they both changed their traveling course to lead them to the hyena and birds. "disgraceful, always with those creatures."

There were a few pups here that Mtulinga and Muundi were able to torment, but the watchful eyes of the other hyenas pretty much barred them from doing much too them, unlike what they had encountered in other packs. It had indeed made life in a pack much more…boring. Why had the two decided to stay? Oh…that was right. They followed the visions of Zimwi. Any day, they had promised to each other, they would leave. Any day they could. They just…didn’t. Muundi tossed a small bone he had been gnawing at for awhile away, just as Mtu began to pull on his ear. He didn’t pull away from her, just allowed the tugging.
”Muu I’m-“ ”bored? Mm.” a smirk lit his maw. "well, then we should go find” ”something to do, yes.” Muu rose to his feet, walking just ahead of Mtu, knowing very well she was in step with him all the time. His eyes caught sight of the Ubavu, and those two creatures that he always tagged along with. ”filthy things.” he muttered, not needing to turn his head towards the female to know he was talking to her. disgraceful, always with those creatures.” Mtulinga had said.
A small smirk propped onto his maw, and he can see an equal one forming on her’s as well.
“Are you thinking” “what I’m thinking?” It was a pretty stupid question. Of course the two were thinking the same thing. They were basically twins from different parents. “Excellent. Let’s go” “for one of those birds.” Mtu finished, the two beginning to stalk up towards the other. ”They may be just as” “fun as tormenting pups?” Both nodded.

Ubavu moved without little concern for the others he passed. Hamea was once again perched on his head, talons clutching the locks atop his head without real force -just enough to stay upright, but not enough to hurt. Ubavu had no desire to stop and converse with those he passed, instead, he spoke rather contently of things with his birds. Many thought while he walked he was talking to himself, but it was always to Hamea and Korosi.
"Are you hungry?" He spoke quietly to his pair. "I can scavange us some food if you wish."
Korosi fluffed her feathers from her perch on his back, a tender look in her eyes as she looked at her Ba-ba. "We're fine, no need to fuss," she told him fondly. "Hamea fetched us a rat earlier this morning, so we're fine." She bounced on the hyena's back, flapping her wings but not taking to the sky. She tried to not fly around Ubavu, simply because it was something which he couldn't do.
Hamea kept quiet, but nodded at Korosi's comment, and lowered his beak to groom Ubavu's hair. Korosi and Ubavu were caught up in one another, talking softly but Hamea's eyes kept a sharp look out at those around him. He didn't trust the hyenas that his Ubavu had taken in with, though he knew the desire to be part of his own species was strong and Hamea would not begrudge him that - but it didn't mean he had to like it.
His eyes narrowed as he spotted a pair of approaching hyenas. He had seen them before, but he did not know them. That didn't mean he was going to trust them though.
"Ubavu, Korosi," Hamea hissed in his sinister voice to his pair, clutching his talons in Ubavu's hair to gain his attention. "Trouble." He kept his gaze fixed on the approaching duo with great distaste.

Muu and Mtu continued exchanging words as they moved along, so far it seemed as though the other hyena had yet to notice them. It would have been more ideal if the birds had been without their 'protector' but this would do just as well. Pups were easy pickings, that didn't mean they couldn't hassle an adult or two every now and then. "Now what was this one's name?" "I hardly think it matters," "they're all the same any how." Mtu concluded, nodding.
"Hello there," "Dreadful weather we're having, right?" their words seemed to flow together perfectly, as if it was one hyena speaking instead of two. Mtu shot Muu a glance, privately questioning what it was they should do with this little trio. Pain and discomfort was well and good, but Mtu favored.head games even more.

Approaching the trio, it was Mtu who spoke first, ”Hello there,” but Muu’s word quickly followed. dreadful weather we’re having, right?” Red eyes quickly catching those of his other half, he knew what that look. It was the silent, what should we do kind of stare. A quick raise of a brow, and a slight flicker of movement in his crimson orbs towards the birds was all it took to tell Mtu of what his intentions should be. There was no need to fight today, but tormenting was something on a whole other story.
Muundi’s ears flickered, as he listened to what the other male had spoken.
”Your…” “friend,” Muu had finished, glancing at Mtulinga to verify that was the word she wanted to use. Both were referring to Korosi, “appears to have some,” ”trouble flying. Perhaps we should put it out” ”of its misery. We could always””use the extra meat in this graveyard.” Fresh meat was always a delicacy for hyenas, and even more so in the bone-laden lands.

Ubavu turned at Hamea's warning words, and narrowed his gaze at the approaching pair, his body tensing. He recognised them as one of the group, but he had little prior interactions with them - something he was glad about. His eyes flicked between them as they spoke, their words seeming to merge together into one long sentence rather that fractured words between the two.
He said nothing about the weather, scoffing under his breath at their attempt at 'small talk'. He didn't trust them.
His gaze grew furious at their comments of Korosi and had he been a fighter, he would have snapped and attacked them, but he wasn't. He felt talons dig into his back, a warning from Korosi to keep silent - to not encourage them. Ubavu didn't want to upset his Korosi, so he sneered at the hyenas and took a step back, protecting Korosi the only way she would allow, by placing distance between them and the threat.
Her feathers ruffled at the comment that was surely directed at her. She knew Ubavu would snap, but that would only result in blood shed for her Ba-Ba, and she would not allow that. Her claws dug into his back in warning, and she was relieved when he obeyed and simply stepped back, saying nothing.
Her red gaze narrowed at the hyenas. She could have taken to the skies, but she would not allow them to threaten her into hiding.
While Ubavu was so easily calmed by Korosi, Hamea was not. While he would never do anything purposely to annoy or hurt his partners, he would not stand idly by and let them be bullied like this.
He flapped his wings, spreading them out to their full span, and digging his talons - careful not to harm him - into Ubavu's hair. His gaze was narrowed, and though Korosi was the darker of the pair, Hamea's voice was gravely and sinister as he spat, "if either of you halfwit hyenas touch a feather on her body, your eyes will by my next meal, followed swiftly by your tongues!"

mtu smirked, though her thoughts were more concerned with how strict and disgusting she thought bird meat was. She did not eat it often, even when it was available in abundance. She was also slightly weary of the males threat on her eyes, she knew the little bastards were more than capable of such damage. This worry did not grace her features hough, instead she laughed in a manner where one could only describe it was a cackle. "Take our eyes, he says."
"Have a nibble of our tongues he says!" Muu added, as Mtu began to circle around the little trio. She was not at all please by the sullen silence of the other two, she decided she wanted to make the hyena squeal. If they weren't going to give into their verbal games than she'd just have to attempt something more... physical with them. She lunged for them, snarling wildly.

Muundi chuckled as the bird spoke. His eyes shifted towards Mtu, though his face never really turned. ”Take our eyes, he says.”. ”Habe a nibble of our tongues, he says!” Muundi finished, standing still as Mtulinga begun her circling towards the rear. It was a way the two of would ambush a lone pup (keyword lone. How well it would work on an adult with six eyes Muundi hadn’t thought through).
“Hah, I think this one was already gotten to their tongues Mtu,” gesturing a nod towards Hamea, though she probably would have missed it. He could tell what she was about to do, and he just waited. No need for the two of them to be so brash, just in case the birds actually held up to the threat of poking and prodding. A large grin plastered against his maw as soon as Mtulinga lunged. Ah, music to his ears.

Ubavu wanted to groan when Hamea not only encouraged the duo by talking to them, but actually threatened them. Inwardly, he felt a swell of pride that he would not take what was happening lying down, but that didn't mean it wasn't stupid. Ubavu took posession of Korosi as his own, his to protect, but he had a feeling that he and Korosi were Hamea's, not the other way around.
He tried to shoot Hamea a disapproving look, but seeing as the bird was still atop his head, that was nearly impossible, so he instead ducked his head, attempting to protect him from the hyenas as one of them, the female, lunged towards them.
He cursed the fact he wasn't a fighter as he tried to coil in, and protect Korosi and Hamea with his bulk - but Hamea was terrible at being protected, he thought, already feeling the bird dislodging himself from Ubavu's protection to take offense.
Korosi closed her eyes in frustration at Hamea's attitude, but didn't speak out against him, keeping her gaze fixed on the circling pair. She saw them lunge before Ubavu, and longed to take flight but she would not leave him, so she stayed, and allowed him to try to protect her from the attack with his own body.
If she stayed, he would be hurt defending her, she realised, but if she left, the other hyenas might see him as their only 'prey' left and hurt him more. She couldn't win, she thought, and gave a loud squawking noise, hoping to startle away the hyenas - or draw attention to their plight.
He looked furious as they began to mock him, his eyes narrowing in undisguised contempt for the pitiful hyenas before him. He kept his wings outstretched, making sure he was seen as a large target - perahps it would deter them from attacking further.
No, he thought with disgust, as the female lunged towards Ubavu. He heard Korosi begin to make noise, but Hamea was silent as he launched himself from Ubavu's head and towards the female hyena with talons extended.
He longed to catch her eyes, like he threatened, but he knew his aim would not be good in his swiftness to attack. If need be, he didn't have to hurt, just startle or scare - something to protect Ubavu and Korosi. He would not stand for this foolishness.

Mtu had not really given the attack too much though, like the fact that she was attacking three beings instead of just one. She had not paid the bird-hyena much mind while they were travellig, to say the least, and didn't even think about the fact that his birds could fly. So when she lunged for the hyena and mostly the smaller, female bird she was not expecting the male bird to retaliate. She barely had snapped at the other two before the male bird was suddenly at her face. She snarled, though it quickly turned into an ugly sound of pain as she reeled backwards, snarling and snapping in a frantic, blind manner.
"My eye!" she screamed out, jakob her head as she continued backwards and snapping at empty air to keep the demonic bird from her other eye. Blood had instantly coated one half of her face, the pain was unmistakable from the whines and snarls spilling from her maw. "Muu! My eye, my eye!" her words were even frantic, attacking the birds and hyena seemed all but forgotten in the sheer panic that her mind suddenly held, thinking perhaps the b*****d really had blinded one side of her vision.

The amused smirk was still on his maw as Muundi watched the pathetic hyena tried to cover the equally pathetic birds. He hadn’t been watching the male swoop from the top of the hyena’s head, and straight towards Mtulinga. Not until he heard the screech coming from his counterpart, to draw his attention back towards her. The first thing he saw was the droplets of blood starting to form on the dark ground. As if in slow motion, his eyes focused on Mtu, widening before narrowing in an instant. No one hurts Mtulinga. NO ONE.
The look of amusement had long gone, with teeth bared, he sprinted towards the side of Mtu, standing in front of her as he attempted to snap at the male. If he could grab the leg, he would swing him around, tossing him away from Mtu.
“Get away from her!” He barked, jumping at the male bird. Somehow this 'fun outing' had turned into just the opposite.

Hamea let out a crow of success as he felt himself draw blood - and heard the hyena shriek of her eye. He had warned them, they had no listened but he had warned them. This was their own fault, he thought with delight.
He had forgotten about the male hyena though, and as he tried to claw at the female again, he felt the jaws of the male latch onto his leg, and he was forceably removed from near the female.
He hit the ground with a heavy thud, a little distance from the group, his leg throbbing. Wonderful, perhaps he had broken something, Hamea groaned inwardly, but was too winded to move. "Hamea!" Ubavu yelped as he saw his bird fly at the hyena, his own eyes wide in horror. He had known that Hamea would not want to be protected by Ubavu, but to actually attack not one, but two hyenas alone? It was suicide.
Even though Hamea had gotten the first hit - and seemed to have drawn blood even - Ubavu knew this would not end well if he sat by and did nothing. He straightened his body from the defensive curl and stepped up to stand protectively over Hamea - after he was tossed aside by the male hyena defending his...whatever she was. He cast his Hamea a worried look when the bird did not immediately rise, but focused on the pair.
His stance was protective, trying to block their access to the winded bird.
Korosi dropped from Ubavu's back and landed beside Hamea on the floor, a low, saddened noise coming from her beak as she saw her friend. "This is what you get for rushing in hot-headed," she scolded affectionately, and gently ran her beek down his body, trying to find any spots of pain, but he made no noise, even as she poked at his leg.
She sighed. "You are so stubborn, Hamea," she whispered, and turned her red gaze towards the hyenas. She prayed they'd leave. They needed to attend to Hamea.
Knowing Ubavu would not speak, in fear of provoking them further, she decided to comment.
"If you leave that eye unattended, you might lose that sight," she pointed out, her voice gentle, as if they were friends, but her eyes were cold. It was not simply friendly health advice.

Mtu needed to calm down, but that was very hard to accomplish when panic had settled so thickly over her mind. What if she really was blind? What if she'd just given up half of the worlds light just to pick on the most pathetic excuse for a hyena she'd ever seen? And let her not forget his mangy birds! Her chest heaved as heavy, shaky breathes came. She was aware that Muu was very close now, that he'd also gotten that fowl bird away from her, and this helped quell her panic some.
"I hope your bird is dead!" she snarled fiercely. Her ears quivered as they took in the females words, her one good eye as of right now snapping onto her form as a throaty growl escaped her being. The little twit was right of course. Mtu would lose her sight, if she hadn't already. "this isn't over yet..." she sneered, though already she was turning. She would retreat now, if that was what Muu wanted. It didn't mean she would be gone for good though, not in the least. For damaging her face that bird deserved to die, by her paw.

Muundi was silent. Even as the bird spoke, and Mtu retaliated, turning herself to live he said nothing. The female avian was right. They needed to go do something so she wouldn’t lose sight in that eye. It was tough living life as a two-eyed hyena, losing sight in one eye just meant even more trouble. When Mtu was fully turned away, Muundi’s eyes narrowed towards the female bird, and even sneered towards the injured male. His own body pivoted, following the bloodied female away from the two. “We’ll get them,” he whispered, walking on her uninjured side as he pushed against her. “but let’s take care of that eye of yours first.”

Ubavu stayed tensed above his birds, watching the hyena pair turn and begin to move away. Only once they had done this, did his posture slump and his eyes grow panicked.
"Oh, what have you done, Hamea?" Ubavu whispered and lowered himself beside them on the ground. "Are your alright?" He longed to race after the hyenas, tear them apart with his teeth, and in flash of rage he almost thought he could, but Ubavu was not a fighter, and he would fail in his attack, bringing only further pain and suffering to his group.
"Come, we must attend to his leg," Ubavu said to Korosi, and gently lifted Hamea up and onto his back.
"He'll be fine," Korosi soothed, seeing her ba-ba's rage and trying to defuse it before it grew uncontrollable. She fluttered her wings and bounced up onto Ubavu's back as well, following Hamea and taking her spot beside him.
"You shouldn't have done that," she whispered gently, "but thank you for protecting us." She didn't approve of what he'd done, but it was sweet to think he had done it to protect them. She cuddled in close next to him as they began to move.
Hamea said nothing at his friend's words, his own rage still potent. Even as Korosi cuddled up next to him and he rested his body more firmly against hers, his rage still simmered beneath the surface. He did not, for a second, regret what he had done.
He would do it again, in a heart beat, and if those hyenas were stupid enough to come back after his family, then he would live up to his promises and take both their eyes and tongues from them. For now though, his leg just really hurt. He curled his head closer to Korosi' plume, and rested, content for the moment to let the rage lie.
