User ImageMarinette could not wait to leave for her first official adventure outside the pride. She had gone outside the boundaries on her own before, but not very far. She did not want to get herself into unnecessary trouble or such just for curiosity. She was not stupid, just a bit too curious for some lions' tastes, lions like her father most likely.

She, of course, would probably still go outside in the meantime for a bit of fun now and again. It was harder to find time for these days, though. She had training in her chosen path, and she helped with hunting as well. Since becoming an adol, Mari's free time had become quite limited. That was all well and good as far as she was concerned. To her it just made the free time she did have all the more precious.

Marinette smiled happily as she thought of what she was going to be doing after her naming quest. She went out a bit with Tamin now, but afterwards... afterwards she would be traveling with him nearly all the time. Who else could say they had a Seeker wrapped around their paw like she did? The two of them had a rather nice arrangement set up if the red and black demoness did say so herself.

Mari purred to herself and stretched her paws in anticipation. Maybe she could get Tamin to take her out a bit farther the next time that he was back to the pride. Perhaps as far as the sea! Or maybe she could talk the others into allowing her to travel with him more permanently and just return for her naming. She could think of a lot of possibilities, the problem was finding one the others in the pride would agree to.

She wondered idly if they would let her take her naming early so she could travel more. It was not likely, but she could hope and perhaps ask the leaders, regardless. It was something to keep in mind afterall. Tamin was related to the leaders as well, so that might make her case for her. She would have to try this if possible. Maybe just ask them for clearance to go out for a longer trip at first.

It would be easier to get something smaller approved first and then work her way up. Logic was her friend in this. Logically the adults would be more inclined to agree to a smaller request first, and then expand it later when she had proven herself capable. Tamin, of course, would just like having her around for the 'companionship' that they shared now that she was old enough, and she could use that to her advantage so well with the male.

Mari bent her head down to take a drink from the little stream in front of her and thinks a bit about her past. Time in the roguelands could lead to many things. There were many things she would like it to lead to, and most of them she knew it would not. She would hold out false hope, though, just because it made her feel better to think there was a slight chance, no matter how small and unlikely, that something good would come to her.

One of the good things that came to mind was seeing her mother again. It was a very unlikely thing to ever have happen, even seeing the friends of her mother that she remembered from when she was a small cub was not something that had much of a chance of happening. She just hoped beyond hope, that one day she might see some of them again. It was one selfish and perhaps weak little hope, but she kept it close to her heart none the less.

Mari knew that Roth would not approve of it, and that was all the more reason not to speak of it. Her sire did not often care what they did, but something like associating with relatives that were slave colors would be a good way to get his muzzle very violently in her business. He might even get the wrong idea and think she wished to leave the pride, and that could have deadly consequences for her.

Mari's thoughts seemed to stick on the idea of her mother and her mother's friends. Her mother, she remembered clearly, but the others were more of blurs in her mind's eye. Even the other two siblings she had, were not as clear as they should have been. The adol gave a sigh of both frustration and resignation. She could not remember what she thought she should and that bothered her.

Mari did know a bit about her family. She had one sister in her litter, and two brothers. Crue was a demon like Mari, and she knew him all too well. The other brother had stayed with their sister and mother. She recalled that the other two cubs had had only a little black and much blue on them. She did not recall much else of their appearance.

Mari could recall her mother's looks in great detail, though. Even after all this time, Mari could remember every strip, every dot and the way the blue lioness' fur tuft would lay across her forehead. Thinking of it made the red lioness feel quite alone suddenly. Crue might not have cared, and Roth certainly approved of that, but Mari felt she had had something wonderful taken from her.

Mari lifted her head from her drink and padded over to a rock near Hakuna's den. She did not usually stay near Roth's den even as a cub, so she would go to her adopted mother's den and lounge there. Hakuna was a wonderful lioness in some ways, but Mari did have to wonder about her sometimes. She seemed to regard her slaves like most of the rest of the pride did, even though in some respects she seemed tolerant of non-demon colors.

Mari sighed to herself as she got comfortable on the rock that was now her perch. She really hoped she could find some information on where her mother and siblings were while she was out in the rogue lands. It was an important to her, even if others would think her silly or weak for it. The young lioness knew that she was neither silly nor weak. She could hold her own with any of these other demons. She just happened to care about something.

It was not a weakness to want to know what one came from, or what happened to that past. It was also not a weakness to wish to have ties outside the pride to rely on. Depending on what happened in one's life, those ties could mean a difference between life and death. The pride was not the whole world, nor should it be considered so. It was just the most important part of her section of the world.
