Quiet Anai watched as his brothers left him. Ah well. They had teased him again for not going with them, but the young cub just liked to be alone sometimes. It wasn’t like he was trying to prove anything to them either. Sighing Anai shook his head. He was baffled some days. Still it wasn’t like him to waste the effort of trying to keep up with them and instead the cub turned away to walk in the opposite direction with his gaze on the ground. He didn’t want to accidentally step on a small bug or creature after all.
What Anai didn’t realize, however, was how that from another’s perspective it appeared as if he was sadly walking away from a group of bullies.
Really though he was concerned about the small beetle which had skittered across the floor. “Oh!” Letting out a little gasp the cub raised his paw and watched as it too turned the corner and disappeared. That had been a close call. He might have stepped on it had he not been more careful. But once again it appeared differently to others than it did to him. One might even have thought he was afraid of the bug rather than saving it!

Arusi has seen everything! Oh, it made her mad! What was that twerp doing? You didn't just walk away from that! You have to stick up for yourself, always! If you let them walk all over you once, they'll just do it every time! Though, she could see why he was getting picked on. He looked like a sissy! She snorted and started to move directly toward him, looking like she meant business. "Oi, you!" She called out.
She puffed up her chest, very much enjoying bravado that most girls her age avoided. She'd gotten the combined sass of both her mother and her father, unfortunately. "What yeh doing just walkin' away from them like that? Oi, you should stick up fer yerself" She growled out, now in front of him. Unfortunately, or fortunately, she had not noticed the beetle in the least, so his awkward paw raise just seemed... weird to her. Without thinking she reached a paw out and bopped him on the head. It was light, something she might do to a sibling. "Don't just walk away from 'em!" Arusi did not understand other cubs who were all polite about meeting and such. They were from the same pride, therefore she automatically knew him! Even if she didn't know his name, and even if this was the first day she realized he existed.

Anai froze. As soon as the words finished echoing from the stones the young lion turned around slowly. That was a female's voice, not one of his brothers'. So who? Blinking the cub looked into a pair of brown eyes. He frowned. He didn't know her name, but for some reason she looked familiar. She was definitely from the pride.
Scooting back from her Anai gave the female some space. "But they weren't-" He paused and shook his head, "Nothing happened there really. And is it your business if it did?" But he didn't sound mean about his question, just a bit confused as to why this other cub would care if he was left behind by his brothers or not. He chose to stay back anyways. Their play just wasn't for him. Not like he would take the time to explain that to her anyways.
Blinking the cub felt a small smack on his head. What? Now she was hitting him? Anai blinked warily up at the female cub. Was she really that angry at him? His eyes watered, not from crying but from the stirred dust. "Well it's better to walk away sometimes. Don't you think?" Really if he didn't walk away then they would have really dragged him along.

She couldn't believe what she was hearing! Nothing happened? He was in denial that much? Ugh! She would have to teach him about sticking up for himself. She couldn't just not teach him… oh! That attitude! Was it her business? She scoffed, looking slightly surprised. "My business? Yeh, course it is!" She grumbled, though she couldn't help but feel a little silly toward his comment. "If yeh see some'in like tha' yeh should make it your business." She added, deciding this made her most right and that meant it was the end of discussion. "And some'in could have happened. Like. A lot worse!"
Gah! Was her seriously tearing up from a little hit like that? Man, this kid really needed some help in growing a backbone! It was a good thing she'd run into him, she was perfect for coaching other cubs into having backbones. At least, she assumed she was. "Walk away?" She sounded appalled. "WALK AWAY?" She added again, as if she wasn't sure he'd actually spoken those words. "No way! Gotta let's have it! And then they won't bother you again! Yeh know? Jeeze… walk away.." She mumbled the last bit, shaking her head.
Her dark eyes narrowed slightly as they met his much lighter ones, and she shook her head again. She really couldn't believe lions like him! "What's yet name? We have a lotto work to get done! Gah… walk away.. seriously…"

Anai only sighed. What was up with this girl, really? His gray-violet gaze studied her quietly. “Should you really? Cause some people don’t like it when their business is interrupted by others.” He nodded thoughtfully. Maybe she was just that type…the ones that always rushed into things without really thinking first? Wasn’t that what his uncle said sometimes? Or just the nosey ones? Her next comment made the cub blink, “Worse? But nothing happened.” He frowned. He was pretty sure nothing happened. Had she seen something different from what he had experienced? It was just the normal morning for him.
Wiping a paw across his eyes the cub tried to clear out the dust. “Why not?” He shook his head, “Doesn’t that just add to the fight? Like a they need to come get revenge or something cycle?” Anai was startled at her reaction to the thought of walking away. He did it almost every day. Especially when it was play hour because then he often walked away somewhere to listen to the adults talk or to nap. He really enjoyed finding hiding spots in the temple or high areas he could climb up into and peer out over the desert from. One day he would go out there and explore the sands himself.
“A-Anai.” He stuttered shocked at the suggestion of work. What work? He did not like the sound of that. It was nothing like napping under a spot of sun after all. “And your name?” He suddenly asked deciding that if she insisted on this then he wanted to at least know the name of his tormenter.

She screwed up her face in disgusted confusion, it almost seemed to say 'what, are you some kind of idiot'? "Just tooooooold you, it is my business! I made it my business!" She tried to stress her point, slightly annoyed by his words. If nothing had happened... no, that can't possibly have been it! He'd been being picked on, and now she was here to help him out! Cause she was awesome and a defender of justice and... and.. revenge cycle? What the hell was this boy talking about?
She frowned in confusion, staring at him. Her lip was slightly curled, as though she might be a little angered as well. "Not if you pull somethin' really good and intimidating right away." She mumbled slowly, though she sounded less sure of herself now.
So his name was Anai! Neat, it was another 'a' name like Arusi! And Ammon! And Aagiro! She was quite fond of 'a' names, though it was likely this boy wouldn't care. "Well Anai, I'm Arusi and I think you're a dumb-head for not doing anything about those boys pickin' on you and I don't understand how you 'ave no courage at all!" Her words came out in an angry rush, a fierce little scowl on her face. She meant well, truly... but she was just too blunt and stubborn. Seriously, hadn't she just told him to stand up for himself moments ago, and now she was name-calling?
