Eileifr was a large lion in his prime however no amount of muscle is going to looking intimating with a lack of light behind the eyes and with the manner which he walked with his head hung just below his shoulder blades, a rolling amble of a gait the once proud lion now carried himself defeated. He'd lost much over the past months, including his love and his father and though he was once driven to succeed in life, his current frame of mind had stunted his motivation for greater things. Roaming as a simple rogue for weeks now he'd heard rumours of a pride and of the Stormborn though he didn't search them out to enter their ranks and gain back what he'd lost, that was impossible, he simply wanted to die and what quicker way than that than to pick a fight.
((Sorry for the short post, still fleshing him out in my mind.))

He had been tagged for boarder patrol again, though he enjoyed the task, walking along the boundary of the pride's homeland, enjoying the peace and quiet. He had grown to his majority over the past summer and was now a rather large male, though none of it was fat, the daily training most stormborn engaged in had given him heavy muscles, his frame built for strength rather than speed or agility. A strong and steady fighter he was not as driven as some males, like his friend Lucivar. The younger male had already clawed his way to the rank of Captain and Lennart often served under him on raids. Yet he knew the brown lion was decent and fair and was happy to follow him into battle.
But for today he was looking forward to a bit of quiet time, a rare chance when one was within the pride's main area. But as he walked slowly along the faint path, he head the unmistakable sound of paws on dirt. Stopping he turned in the direction, it was coming from the outlands, a rogue then...
Patiently he waited for the stranger to come into sight.

Eileifr caught sight of a large predominately white white lion, his golden mane full and a sign of a lion reaching his prime. He walked with the knowledge of being able to enter into battle with little fear of knowing for certain he'd be alive at the end of the day. He looked like a fine lion. Eileifr didn't raise his head, he simply continued towards the prides boundaries and towards what he hoped would be the end of his present state of misery. Coming closer to the lion Eileifr had no desire to make conversation with the unknown male but stated simply and plainly, 'This looks like a fine day to die, fancy aiding me with that?' He didn't blink, didn't intone that he was jesting and with a fluid motion he rolled his shoulders, widened his stance and quickened his pace as his came forward to face the unknown warrior and protector of the pride boundaries.

The abrupt words did not really phase him, many a rogue he had met on the boarders to his pride and few of them had been of the contented sort. Why else would a lion seek out a pride of warriors if he was not looking for strength or a challenge or some other thing.. no happy and peaceful lion ever came this way.
The words were morbid of course but Lennart paid them little mind, it was the manner of most of his tutors and he was well used to them, and anyway, it sounded an awful lot like the stormborn's customary greeting.
Shaking his mane he turned as the male started his charge. If the stranger had hoped to catch him off guard, he was going to be disappointed. Without a roar or even a sound, Lennart flew into a run, his apparent bulk belied by his speed. Claws and teeth were brought to bare with the intention of toppling the grey male off his feet.

Eileifr wasn't drawing out what was to come but his pace wasn't a run, more a steady even half jog half run but the golden mane lion seemed more eager to enter this fight, for pleasure or for duty he cared little. He knew what was coming, he read the lion as his back leg muscles bunched and his front toes curled into the ground just about to push himself into a leap, aiming for him but he did nothing to stop the male. Size and weight is all well and good guessing at from a distance look at a lion and a quick observant as they hurtle towards you but it is quite another when it hits you full force. Eileifr felt the full force of the blow as the male bore down on him, he'd lunched himself three paces in front of him and landed with his front to paws baring down into his shoulders. Eileifr crumpled under the weight and fell to the ground with the other lion now on top of him.

The ease with which the other lion went down was a surprise, as Lennart was used to fighting lions who fought back. But he was well trained and he didn't let up or offer sympathy to the other male. His movements flowed from one attack to another as he closed his jaws about the stranger's throat, though the thick mane protected his vulnerable flesh, it was still a dangerous position for the other to be in as Lennart bore down, effectively pinning the pale one in place. Yet he didn't let down his guard, expecting the other to at least retaliate.

Eileif lay almost still underneath his opponent and made no effort to guard his belly, chest or importantly his throat. Strange as things no seemed to move in slow motion, he noted the manner his which the lions golden eyes widened ever so slightly when he put up no fight and the sensation of a tug at the corner of his own mouth as he smiled, with knowledge that realise would come soon and quickly or simply admiring the way in which the other lion simply did what was needed of him, hardened and battle trained protecting his homeland. He rested his head back fully exposing his throat when it dawned on him, his father had been haunted ever since he knew but he heard stories told by others equal to or older than his father of a once proud lion, the death of his mother had destroyed him and though his father never spoke much about it to him, he simply smiled and nudged him when he had that far away look in his eyes, he'd loved and lost.
Loved and lost but Eileif knew you had to be strong, had to lose things in life to really know their true worth, they were things worth living for and worth dying for but not in the manner. He'd find love again, find new heights he just had to fight for them. The lion bore down on him, the pinch of fangs as they grasped his throat but he twisted and broke free from from grasp, snarling not just at the lion on top of him but at his situation and everything that had brought him to this point. The dull look left his eyes and with determination and strength his twisted his rump and hind legs to gain enough leverage under to opponent to raise his shoulder from the ground and attempt to throw him from on top of him.

Lennart was not dumb, up close he had seen that filmed-over look in the male's eyes and could make an educated guess as to the common cause. There were more than a few in the pride who had worn such a look. Knowing he could not fight a lion who was dead inside, he had been about to let go and back off when the stranger suddenly struggled, that dull expression fled like the savannah dust before a spring storm and all of a sudden he was fighting back.
His hind paws slipped as the male rose up under him, forcing Lennart to release his grip and rear backwards, regaining his balance and moving into a defensive stance. Wary now, finally shifting into full fight-mod, Lennart hunkered down and started to circle, watching the pale stranger for signs of his attack.

Eileifr threw the male off him, not in a dramatic way, even with his change of spirit having a large grown male come full force at you and take you to the ground with it takes it out of most. He got his legs underneath him and though he had the urge to shake himself out this was not the time for it, he was as well trained as the next but he was out of practice and now taking on a lion such as the one now circling him seemed almost foolish. He'd finish what he'd started however and though feeling slightly battered from the first blow he rolled his shoulders in a different manner than he had before and lowered his stance, tucked his head in protectively and circled his opponent. He didn't take long to study him, he was larger than himself but he moved slightly less gracefully than he'd known in other warriors and that told of someone a little slower on their paws but carried a larger blow when it landed. Enough, he broke the circle and came at him, he feigned left and then twisted at the last moment to strike out with his right fore leg, swiping to attempt to catch the other's fore leg and off balance him.

Lenart could see the change in the other and settled himself into the pattern of the dance, waiting, watching, judging the moment when the other male attacked. He saw the preparation, the launch. His own paws moved across the ground as he prepared to meet the blow. He saw the faint to the left but he caught a patch of damp leaves and for a split second, became unbalanced. It was then that the other's paw flashed out and forced Lennart to defend, loosing his balance he threw himself backwards to avoid the blow but still felt the rake of claws through his flesh.
A soft growl escaped at the brief pain and without a pause he righted himself and darted forwards under the other male's defense, h own claws unsheathed as he went for the attack.

True to his guess the larger male wasn't as light on his paws and even but quick enough not to fall from the feign to pull away enough that he didn't let Eileifr get full purchase of his front leg and off balance him more effectively, he simply caught the back of the males leg and dragged his claws across the soft vulnerable flesh around the top of the dew claw. His opponent growled in response to the sharp biting pain but truly it was nothing worth noting within a fight. They both drew back, readied themselves again and this time his opponent stuck out, he was admittedly surprised at the quick reply to his own attack and thus wasn't fully ready for his riposte, the attack sweapt across his shoulder and Eileifr snarled his own retort to the pain as it seared across his flesh. His eyes narrowed and a slow growl formed in his throat but he quenched it and drew himself up, his stance becoming less aggressive and slowly he drew back a pace his voice came low and steady, 'I approached this wrong, I came to die but now I know there is more to life that I have been offered, but that I have to work for it, I knew this once but recent events have caused me to forget this. Please let me have a moment, focus and we can begin a fresh.' He knew the other didn't have to grant him this but surely a to enter a fight that began on a note where the other truly fought back would be a far greater victory.

The moment the other lion backed off, Lennart did the same, pale eyes fixed on the stranger, waiting for a cue as to his next move. The words when they came surprised him but he nodded. "Wise words. I am pleased you have changed your mind. Take as long as you require."
He kept his eyes on the other male, but he backed up a few paces and settled down on his rump when he was a safe distance away. The male wouldn't be able to sneak up on him, for as much as Lennart was a trusting lion, he had known too any males without honor to trust that deeply.
Calmly, he settled down to wait, seemingly undisturbed by the bizarreness of the situation.

He nodded in thanks to the male but was somewhat surprised at the nature of the males response, he was pleased that he'd changed his mind, please that he didn't want to die, was the simply because we wanted to be challenged by an opponent that would fight back with a little more passion or he truly felt what he now felt, life wasn't something for one to throw away, it was taken but wasn't something that should be given without true meaning or purpose. Either way it didn't matter, all he knew know was he wanted more out of life and he'd work damn hard to get it. He turned his back on the lion perhaps a stupid manoeuvre but he wanted peace, just for a moment, to attempt to push certain feelings and memories deep down and bury them for now so he could function enough to turn and face his opponent once again but this time face him with passion to win.
