The ground was made of a flooding river. Animals rushed past her, screaming and shouting, blaring out for help. The prey asked her to rescue them, that little cub she didn't like was begging for mercy!

Matifa leapt to the next rock. Her back foot slipped, and her claws unsheathed, clawing desperately to the face. Her face touched the water! But she managed to pull herself up and free. Matifa would live through the flood, because she was smarter than them!

Trotting along the flat-top, she made it to the large rock. The one she really wasn't supposed to climb without supervision. Matifa glanced around her, bit her tongue, and then proceeded to scramble up it.

She was not expecting to get a faceful of dark fur as she launched herself victoriously over the last vertical rockface and onto the top. Matifa lost her balance on back legs, and found herself sitting. Nose wrinkled tightly, she let out a sneeze.

"Hair up my nose!" she protested out loud, though her eyes were watering and she had yet to process the scent with all the dirt caked all around her already brown nose.

Gakere didn't even budge as a small, noisy projectile collided with, and then bounced harmlessly off of, his furred muscles. Bright eyes tracked her movement without amusement as the Umholi noted the existence of the female cub.

Matifa. It did not follow the custom, her name, as her father had died after her birth, but the two events had come so quickly together that it seemed appropriate, prophetic, even. Of course, this playful thing was not like the large, irritable lion that had sired her, beyond their pelt.

He waited then for her to 'recover', shifting up so that his shadow would be cast over her. When the large male spoke, his always-cool tone was a low rumble.

"The lionesses would be displeased to find you here." Not only was Matifa's new play area just past the edge of where the young were 'allowed,' it was dangerous, and there were no females here to care for her lest... Something unpleasant occur, as it so often did in the Bonelands.

Little Matifa's ears went back and her needle teeth worried her tongue inside her mouth. She tried to do well. It was hard, though, to not get distracted with all the things around. The ground turned back to that damp brown, with the choking grass shoots after a rain season. The rock was no longer a salvation from an imaginary flood. It was just a rock. With a Gakere on it.

"Don't tell them?" she offered, brightening, the words holding the hopefulness of a cub's mind.

Her eyes moved to his tail when it shifted. They slid back to him, but she was distracted by the desire to attack it viciously. She rose to her feet, and shuffled her feet over to face his front before sitting down again. Her front legs slid out from under her, and she rested her chin on dusty paws.

Her orange eyes strained up, to catch sight of his big face. "It's nap time," she explained, as though he had asked. "I did not want to nap."
