Tara had enjoyed her dinner with Rian's family, discovering with joy that she'd found a place to fit in within the pride. She'd been invited to stay that night, and never had left again. She had come to love their rowdy, playful times, and the great affection all members of Sliabh's offspring seemed to share, or most anyway. Her favorites to stay close to, though, were Rian and Ruko. Sometimes they stayed in to listen to Ruko tell stories when he was feeling weak, but other times she would go adventuring with Rian alone to let Ruko rest. She liked it best when all three of them were together, however. It made her feel like she had a real family, others she could depend on, when all else had failed her in her young life.
She always slept between Rian and Ruko, nestled between their warm, furry bodies. Having them on either side of her made her feel safe, loved, and very sleepy. Tonight was no different in that aspect. They had all snuggled up together while the stars shone coldly overhead. The night itself was just a bit chilly, but inside the den it was plenty warm, not to mention that they shared body heat as well. It was with a contented heart that Tara fell asleep.
She did not stay that way.

Rian was comfortably asleep on one side of the fearless snake- who trio as Beo had jokingly come to call them, and somehow it had stuck, not that Rian minded. It was something he shared with the two most important felines in his life, his brother and his best friend.
Though they slept in a den filled with warm bodies and their mother Eva and one or more of the healers that worked with her depending on if she was called away on an emergency, Rian had appointed himself the protector of the other two. So he slept with his back to everything else, his large, healthy, frame nearly curled around them both, giving as much warmth as he could to them.
This night he had asked Mom if Ruko could have a sun warmed stone to curl over and she'd given him one. When he was satisfied that all three of them would be warm, Ruko against the den wall, Tara in the middle and he with his back to everything he had fallen into a perfect, happy, sleep.

A paw twitched.
With a thundering surge of roars, a whole line of lions surged over the hilltop. Rage burned in their eyes, and fury fueled their paws. Behind them came a wave of lionesses, ears pinned and white fangs flashing.
She turned her head, face scrunching up.
A male surged up in her face, snarling. "You took our cubs! Our future! Our babies!" He roared and reared back, paws spread wide with wickedly long claws extended. "You will pay for what you have done!"
She gave a little gasp, paws twitching more as she tried to escape.
The huge paw descended swiftly and heavily, making the world spin. Then in came the snarling face, fangs bared and hate in his eyes as he dove for her throat.[/]
She jerked, arching her back with another gasp and a soft squeak.
There was blood everywhere, and cries of fury and pain! Dead bodies littered the ground, and cubs were crying for their mothers. And yet the horrific battle raged on! Blood and muscle and bone gaped at her, grisly wounds and grotesque expressions fixed on fallen faces. Screams erupted hearby, and she spun to see two lionesses descend on a mother with cubs, tearing the mother apart. The cubs wailed and tried to hide against their dead mother as the shadows of the attackers loomed overhead.
She screamed, her whole body spasming, her small cubbie claws extended, her ears flat against her head.
