Vaako entered the swampy lands where his children lived with slow steps, dragging a small gazelle by the throat. He had to admit he would never adjust to such a place where the air was damp and the earth so moist and slippery. He supposed there were worst things than a muddy ground but the odor wasn’t particularly appealing either. Despite its faults – or at least that’s how he perceived them – the swamp was safe place where his cubs were growing up under the close watch of their mother and with a whole pride protect them, the large lion was sure no harm would come to any of them.

They were growing quickly… a little too quickly as far as Vaako was concerned though he wasn’t one to voice such thoughts. But Vaako already dreaded the day when his children would leave on the name quest all adolescents went through. The idea that his little girl would be on her own at such a young age left him cold and numb. It would also be the time he’d leave as well and he’d probably only return after a long period of time to check up on them while he continued his own little quest.

He thought about Riddiq every day. What his reaction would be if he ever were to meet of his cubs. What he’d say if he knew he’d named one of his sons after him. If he had found their sister while Vaako was playing dad. Ah, Jakyra. Was she alive, he wondered? Part of him couldn’t wait to leave and return to the search for his missing sister but until his cubs were big enough to stand on their own paws, Vaako couldn’t possibly disappear.

Bokkie had been clumsy to begin with but now the young lion wasn’t exactly growing in grace as time went by. It was nothing short of amusing to watch his awkward movements as he attempted to chase one of his siblings around his mother. Anyone could tell how this scenario would end and, true to the script, it wasn’t long until the pale cub had managed to cover his entire right side with a muddy layer after a very flashy fall.

“Is that… dad?” he asked, shaking the mud from his eyelashes as he tried to get a proper look at the approaching lion. Oh, he really hoped it wasn’t his father. The last thing he wanted was to be caught in less the perfect condition… again. The blue-eyed lion jumped behind his mother and started cleaning himself frantically.

Cin cocked his head, watching Bokkie with his amber eyes as he fell into the swampy mud. Shacking his head, he trotted over to him managing to keep his balance fairly well considering his bulk. He was going to grow into his father's large frame, there was no doubt to that, and sat down next to the snow what form of his sibling.

" Next time stay on top of the roots and branches Bokkie," he told him with affection as he began to help him clean off the mud in the hard to reach places like his ears and the top of his head, so he would look as least mostly presentable for their dad, " We'd best hurry or mom's gonna have your tail in a sling, she took at lot of time grooming us this morning." He whispered between swipes of his tongue.

Golden eyes narrowed with dimming patience as the mother lioness paused in their travel, yet again. It honestly shouldn't take this long to go towards the edges of their pride land, but then again what could one expect with such short legs? And they were still quite young, so her temper was of no excuse. Taking a deep and calming breath, Mohana glanced down at her trailing liter. As much as she was used to her own pace and freedom, and her attitude was often thin, her newfound role of motherhood easily pushed those concerns aside. Despite her harsh learning lessons, both on herself and her cubs, she was still an alert and protective female when it concerned her family.

"Bokkie, what is this mess?" Nodding towards his soaked fur, the mother twisted her tail as she made a u-turn to approach the tumbled boy. She was more concerned with his lack of balance than his fur, considering that there home was naturally slippery. But with the past attacks and dangers that the pride had to endure, Mohana was bound and determined to make her cubs strong in the face of all threats. Including mud. Watching passively as Cin appraoched and began grooming the other, Mohana looked off into the thick foliage. She couldn't see him just yet, but she could smell him in the distance.

Giving a light hearted grin as the brothers arted around her legs, the mother coughed lightly to catch their attention.

"Cin dear, keep an eye on your brother. We're almost there."

"Uh-Oh, Bo made a no-no!"

Ears flickered forward and back as the fluffy sister looked on, her paws massaging at the ground with her skittish nerves. As much as she wanted to reach out and help her brother regain her footing, she was too nervous to shuffle in any direction. What if mother got upset? Or what if Bokkie darted up and away before she even got there? That'd be an embarrassing attempt!

Watching as Cin walked by, Tarmha made a tiny pout and whimper. How was it that everyone else was so confident and easy going with their actions? How she wished she could be more like her brothers, not worrying over every little thing! And at the mention of their father being nearby, Tarmha grew all the more antsy. They only met with him on occasion, and she could only wonder what would happen or be said in this encounter.

Silently, Vaako came out of the dense foliage and immediately pretended not to see as one of his white sons worked his way to get a good deal of mud of his coat. Bokkie… it was so expected that it even managed to be surprising in a way. He knew the boy wouldn’t like him to notice the little mess so his eyes were quick to find Mohan’akhar instead. She was as beautiful as ever, the mother of his cubs. Vaako sometimes wondered why she’d even wasted time on him though he had to admit he quite liked the result.

“Mohana.” He called out to the white lioness before his eyes dropped to the dark shape of his only daughter. He smiled at her, once again noticing how much she reminded him of Jakyra before he felt his chest tighten. “Hello, Tarmha.”

------------------------

Bokkie, who was now hiding behind Cin, glanced up to his mother apologetically as he cleaned his muzzle with a wet paw until he was finally presentable. He was grateful for his brother’s help – there was no way he could possibly get rid of all that mud on his own.

“Sorry, mom.” He said slowly, eyes widening as Vaako emerged from the dense bushes. The youngster felt a little anxious and his head dropped a little when Vaako spoke but the smile his father showed Tarmha put the young lion at ease. His father was always so serious that Bokkie was glad for anything that could pull that softer side out of Vaako.

“Let’s go, Tarmha.” He said with obvious excitement, following after Cin.

Cin chuckled, and shook his head at all his siblings, wondering just how he could be so much like them, yet so different at the same time. He'd have to teach Bokkie some of the high roads to take, and how not to slip so much the next free moments they had together. It be simple enough. He had the patience for it.

Glancing over at his only sister, he added mentally, he might include her too. She needed some encouragement now and again. As he passed her, he nuzzled her ear, " Come on, did you need some help Sis, you can hold onto my tail if you need to." His voice was pitched low and soft, so only she could hear him.
