Haravana had one paw on the Baobab tree, looking up at the hairy, oblong fruit at the top of the stubby branch. She'd only climb the tree if there were more then one fruit that was ready, she didn't want to ruin the chance of this tree not producing more this season.

The leopardess needed the fleshy fruit to mix with drop seed and some devil claw to help make both more palatable for the healer's patients to take when awake, and to absorb as a paste on their tongue when they were not. If the fruit wasn't ready, she'd take some of the roots at least, along with some leaves. Those she could dry out a mash, use as a police for simple scrapes and cuts the guards, scouts and cubs always seemed to get and that she could take care of and keep the healer's paws free for those who were truly sick.

Squinting against the sun, Haravana shaded her eyes with her other paw, was that another fruit up there, or just a bundle of leaves?

User ImageThe heavy paws of the hyena slid across the ground aimlessly. His coat was green and white before, but it was impossible to tell. A thick layer of dirt blanketed his fur, and saliva hung in ropes from his hungry maw. It was obvious that Oyow was a very fatigued and weary creature.

The scent was getting stronger. Oyow assured himself that his destination was near. That alluring, irresistible smell of death and decay. His family couldn't understand his craving. Sure, it was normal for a hyena to be attracted to a corpse but... they thought he took it too far. That's why he had to leave them.

Oy's empty yellow eyes lingered on the orange leopard in the distance. Before he knew it, he closed the distance, and the hyena found himself casually walking towards the feline. Hopefully it didn't want to pick a fight, Oyow was in no mood for that kind of behavior.

Haravana's ears had heard the paws steps long before she had seen what made them. She wasn't some untrained innocent that was let out from the Pride's borders to gather plants willy nilly. Some of the best scouts and guards had been her teachers, and damn if Silabh or Castial would have even let her out of their sight if they thought she couldn't handle herself. Besides, she had wits, and if it was something bigger then her, she knew how to run, and knew all the twists and turns to get her to the border and the guards there who would take care of it.

So when the rather ragged, hungry, looking hyena broke through the bush in front of her, Haravana was already facing him, her bag slung behind and secure over her shoulder. All impression, he didn't look very good and she wondered for a moment if her was suffering from the frothing sickness.

While her kind and the canines could not catch what the lions and their kind could within their Pride, the frothing sickness they were very susceptible to, and she took a step back, putting more distance between them.

Oyow's eyes met the feline's in a brief moment of uncertain tension. The hyena didn't care to analyze her, inspect or judge her like he typically would. A snarl came to his lips, revealing slimy yellow fangs. Not a threat, but rather a sign that he would prefer not to exchange greetings.

Pleased with the female's withdrawal, Oyow continued on his journey, lumbering past the leopard and nearly stumbling in the process.

Haravana looked him over, then gave a little inward sigh, he didn't smell sick, he smelled like death, but not his own, more like he was eating it, and a lot of it. If anything he was exhausted, dehydrated, and perhaps a little crazy.

Well, the Pride wasn't to far away...

" Are you feeling all right?" She asked him in her usual no nonsense voice, " You certainly don't look it, and in the direction your heading, you're going to land yourself right along the borders of my Pride and the Guards are going to take a unhealthy look to that."

"Just a bit hungry, is all." Oyow snapped at the feline with a tone of venom in his voice that might imply she would be next on the menu. The hyena rethought that threat with the leopard's warning. A pride? If he was going to reach the source of the smell quickly, he might need to cut through the pride... But he would need an escort.

"I'm sorry." He said, his eyes and voice still cold and full of spite. "I don't know what gets into me sometimes... You said your pride was near." Oyow paused, his tongue reaching out of his mouth to clean the strands of saliva hanging from his maw. "Would it be possible for you to guide me there?"

Realizing that felines aren't too fond of his species, he figured she might need more persuasion than that. Oyow feigned a coughing fit in order to buy himself some time to think up a convincing lie. "I am to meet my family on the other side... But I don't know if I can reach them on time if I have to go around."

This Post is missing due to my mind running away with my wits to go on a hiatus. I will add cliff notes as I remember them:

Haravna did not believe the cough was real, but still thought the hyena was ill in some way. She agreed to help him cut through the pride to meet his family on the other side, but was going to hand him over to Rain, Silabh, or Castil.

She informed him that maybe Beo might be around who, though he was not a scout or guard anymore, he was a hyena and that he may be more comfortable with him seeing him though the Pride Lands.

Oyow was pleased with himself. His deception worked like a charm, as usual. Or, that's what he thought. His ears relaxed and a slimy yellow grin came to his face. "Thank you, cat. I appreciate it..." As much as he tried to restrict the contempt in his voice, just a bit slipped through. With his insincere expression of gratitude, the hyena continued forward to drag his heavy, tired paws across the dirt and grass. Almost there, almost there.

"You have hyena members in your pride?" He asked, sounding more than mildly surprised. "That is unusual, don't you think?" Oyow glared into the distance, unable to suppress the snarl that came to his lips. It took way too much effort not to make a prejudice crack about felines. Hopefully the pride wasn't too far, he didn't know how much longer he could keep up this sickening act.

Haravana raised an eyebrow at the venom in his voice when he practically spat out the word 'cat', but choose to remain the lady she'd been raised to be by the healers who'd raised her and answered him politely, if a little stiffly. " Yes, we have all kinds in our Pride, lions, leopards, cheetahs, wild dogs, hyenas, hybrids, and everything else under the sun."

She turned, settling the sack on her back better, " Our lands have to be accepting, because over half of them are dying." Haravana looked back at him over her shoulder, " there is a plague that runs among us, not one day passes that we do not mourn a friend, but do not worry. You and I are immune to it. only lions and those who have lion blood in them can catch it."

Haravana began to walk up the trail toward the Pride and were she knew she would intercept either Rian or Castiel on their patrol. " You'll be safe enough cross through our lands to meet your 'family' on the other side." It was clear she didn't think there was any family to meet, but that his business and not hers.

At first, Oyow didn't appear to be interested in the leopard's words at all. That is, until she said something about death. Oy's ears perked right up and his eyes widened with lust. "Dying?" He asked after a long pause, and attempted to feign concern, but his grinning, wide-eyed face betrayed that emotion. "That sounds absolutely horrid."

As much as he tried, Oy couldn't swipe the grin from his face. Sure, it might put the leopard off, but honestly? Who could care when they're being introduced to a pride of death. The hyena left the leopard without as much as a goodbye. He couldn't care enough to think about meeting her ever again... Though at this point, a future meeting seemed inevitable.
