Sozin stood near the duelling area, waiting for his challenge to appear. He knew he had to win this duel to enter the pride, and that just made him more eager to join. A pride that had standards of strength to allow someone in? Sounded perfect to him. At least he knew there were no weaklings joining, like Xennek. He smirked, he was sure those pathetic males wouldn't make it inside the pride.

He shifted on his paws, the bite scar on his shoulder stinging a little, causing him to scowl. It had been a rather vivid mark in the early days, but it had faded some now, so it blended in with his pelt, though it was obvious when someone looked closely. He'd carry the mark until death, he was sure.

He shook his head, dispelling the thoughts, growling. Now was no time to think over such things. Now was the time to fight.

Spaki made his way to the dueling area rather calmly. This was his first duel in which he was testing a hopeful member to join the pride, but he found no reason to be nervous or even excited. If he lost, it would simply mean a new capable member was going to be among them. If he won, he had made his pride proud, and this rogue would have to try again. It was all very simple.

Once arriving at the dueling area, it was clear enough who his opponent would be. For starters, he was the only lion there. But also, it was a lion Spaki didn't know, even his markings weren't very similar to any current members. So he must be a rogue! "You must be Sozin." It wasn't really a question, he felt it almost silly to ask. "I'm ready when you are, the first move is yours." He figured that was at least polite.

Or not, because it meant Sozin would have to start the attack and that was sometimes harder. Well... Well, Sozin would just have to live with that.

Sozin stared at his 'opponent'. The male was larger than he was, since Sozin was more lithe than he was bulky, but that didn't bother him. He'd taken down larger males and won, so what did it matter, size?

"How gracious," Sozin said, and began to circle the male, eying him. Perhaps he should have attacked first, but it was more important to know who you were fighting, so he decided to take a few moments to watch, and wait, and learn about his opponent first.

He smirked as he circled, wondering if he could throw his opponent of his game with mind games. Mind games were his favourite. Less energy wasted, and usually as fun, if not more so, than physical battles.

Spaki stood in his place and didn't comment on what the other male said. Not like it was the sort of thing that needed comment. Instead he decided to observe this rogue. He concluded rather quickly that he probably didn't like him very much.

It as that smirk. Kind of creepy. Spaki was tempted to make a face, but somehow managed to keep himself neutral. He had said Sozin could have the first move, so he waited somewhat patiently for that, tail flicking lazily from side to side. Spaki didn't intend to wait forever, though.

Sozin's smirk grew at the lack of response from the male. Well, that was an optimistic start for the pride. Most people found Sozin's smirks to be disturbing, and yet this male continue to stay neutral. Well done, he laughed inwardly, before stalking towards him, planning his attack.

Unfortunately, he distracted himself with his plans of mind games, and took a step too close to the male. Realising he had put himself into harms way by his own foolishness, he snarled and swiped out a paw, an impromtu and obviously badly planned first attack.

Bound by his initial offer, Spaki stubbornly remained in his spot, though even he would begin to grow impatient. Was this rogue just going to stare at him all day? He watched the other carefully, and noticed the misstep. He didn't move, though.

Until a paw came at him, and Spaki leaned away to avoid it. He felt something touch his shoulder, weak and badly planned. But he figured it counted as a first attack, so Moto'spaki decided he was golden, returning a snarl and taking a short lunge, covering the distance between them to swipe at the smaller male with his front paws.

Sozin was furious, at himself mostly and at this male for distracting him by not giving in to Sozin's mind games. When the male launched himself at him, the swipe connected hard with Sozin, and he was forced to stumble back. It hurt, but Sozin wasn't a baby when it came to pain. He'd experienced worse. His shoulder throbbed in memory.

Snarling, he threw himself forward, refusing to get distracted again. He returned the gesture, throwing all of his weight into the attack, despite his smaller size he was still heavier than the average rogue lion. He aimed his front paws at the male's fleshy side, his attack thankfully a little more planned and streamlined than his previous attempt.

Maybe Spaki should have tried to avoid that, he probably would have had time. But it seemed he underestimated the male's smaller size, and also made the rookie mistake of leaving his flank exposed. Sozin his him full on, and the firekin growled at the inevitable pain. Due to the angle of the attack, he even started to topple over.

But, fortunately, the white male managed to regain his footing before actually hitting the floor. And now Moto'spaki was warmed up, and he didn't want this rogue to beat him. He spun, finding Sozin still fairly close by. Spaki didn't use claws or teeth this time, he just lunged, head tucked low so as to use brute strength and size to slam against the other male.

Sozin's delight over getting a successful hit in was soon overshadowed by the bulk of the male lion being aimed at him. He was unable to avoid the attack, and the full force of the male was slammed against him. As he was smaller, he stumbled back and hit the sand hard, scrappig his fur against the abrasive granules.

He snarled, and forced himself up to his feet, feeling his back leg give way a little, having hit his hip against the ground as he'd fallen. Perfect, he'd have a limp now. He eyed the male, not shifting, but watching - waiting, for the next move.

He would avoid the next one, he decided firmly.

Moto'spaki was pleased with the result of his tackle, but wasn't the sort to just be satisfied with a couple good hits. The fight wasn't over yet, this rogue still had a chance to win, so he mustn't get ahead of himself. As Sozin got back onto his feet, the firekin went for him again.

This time, he stopped a bit short from a tackle, head back and chest out, almost close enough to actually bump into the male. Spaki snarled, raising a paw to bat at his opponent head and neck area with his ears laid back. So far he was doing good, and he intended to keep it that way.

Spaki's attack hit Sozin in the throat, hitting his windpipe firmly but not enough to do permanent damage, just enough to severely wind him. He stumbled backwards, away from the male, gasping in a steadying breath, but unable to bring in enough to satisfy his lungs, so he was forced to drag in another deep, shuddering breath.

He stood where he was, eyes narrowed in annoyance as he tried to catch his breath. Black spots danced behind his eyes as he stood firm, a snarl building on his lips as he tried to slow his breathing, but his lungs seemed to dislike that idea, protesting with each shallow breath he made.

Moto'spaki was frowning as he approached Sozin, and for a few moments seemed intent on getting in another blow, which should be easy at this point. But as he got closer, he realized something was wrong with his opponent, and wondered, briefly, if he had done more damage than he should. But a rogue shouldn't expect the fight to be easy, and so he stopped just short of the red male, head held high and a paw raised slightly to make it clear that Spaki could strike him, if he wished to.

"This fight is over, you have lost." After all, it was cowardly to hit Sozin more, when he couldn't breathe properly. "You may return once you are ready to duel another, but for now you must leave." The firekin briefly set his paw back down on the sand, then turned and left. He was sure Sozin might hang around a bit longer to gain his breath, but doubted the rogue would attempt anything stupid, so Moto'spaki felt he had no reason to remain here.

Results!

Sozin: 2 + 2 + 3 + 2 + 2 = 11
Moto'spaki: 2 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 14

Conclusion -> Moto'spaki wins.
