@@@@So you're interested in joining with the firekin, are you? The firekin is a harsh, militaristic pride fraught with infighting and strife. Its seen several rebellions, wars, and great calamity. To become a member, you will not only have to prove yourself to the pride in battle- but you'll also have to learn to survive in the harsh Motoujamii desert. And you still want in? Awesome, firekin are notoriously stubborn! You are already on your way.

But there are several things you need to take into account before deciding if this pride is right for your lion:

@@@@ • You must be a lion. Hybrids and other species are not allowed.
@@@@ • Make sure the beliefs of the pride match up with those of your lion.
@@@@ • You may not rogue breed in this pride, and flings come with potential consequences.
@@@@ • Religious beliefs must be kept private.
@@@@ • While the firekin may be savage, working together is tantamount to survival. Insane/evil/cruel lions may be rejected.
@@@@ • Your lion must be able to fight for themselves. Injured, elderly or disabled rogue lions are not welcome.
@@@@ • And finally, your lion must be one of the approved colors stated below!

@@@@ • We do not accept gods as members, without prior approval.

Quote:
Rogues and new Firekin:

In the old pride, rogues were not permitted to join as their blood did not carry the blessing of Finar-si. After the rebellion however, dwindling bloodlines made rogues necessary. Nowadays, rogues are happily accepted into the pride as full members. A rogue that wishes to join the pride must first meet a gamut of requirements: they must be of the traditional firekin colors, they must be willing to fight, and they must defeat a member of the pride in combat in order to earn their place.

When a rogue arrives in the lands looking to join, he is kept at a distance. There are small outposts where every day, rogues and off duty firekin may meet for battles. Most firekin look forward to fighting rogues as a means of blowing off stress. Because rogues have no holding in the pride [yet], some duelists can be rougher to rogues than they are their own kind. Rogues living on the borderlands are not fed, but they may be directed to water by the water-seekers. If a rogue has failed on numerous occasions, or are causing problems, they will be escorted off the lands by the Sentinels.

When a rogue wins their duel into the pride, they are placed into a one month quarantine period. During this time they are asked to abstain from mating, and instructed by the historians and elders the ways of the pride. They are also groomed by the military, who often cherry-picks the rogues they believe will do the best amongst their ranks. Some rogues may be accepted into the chain of command even earlier than the one month period.

Once that full month is over, the lion is considered a 'true' firekin. They have all the rights of a natural born member. They may rise in rank, and they may even vote. Anything done in their old life is considered forgiven. What they do after joining the pride is in their hands.

@@@@ Originally, it was thought that the color red symbolized the pride's goddess, Finar-Si. While belief in the goddess has waned, the pride still has a close relationship to the color red. It is seen as a sign of unity and national pride. On the battlefield, it makes fellow soldiers easy to spot. To join the pride, you must be considered 'ethnically' one of them.

Accepted Colorations:

@@@@ • Red
@@@@ • Black
@@@@ • White
@@@@ • "Hot" variations of red, such as orange.

In addition, markings must follow these guidelines:

@@@@ • Hot colored markings [yellow, orange, ect] must not exceed 40% of the lion.
@@@@ • Cool colors must not cover more than 10%. [Blues, purples, greens] It is preferred that a lion with 'cold' markings be predominantly red for this to be allowed.

We reserve the right to reject any lion if we feel it does not follow the color rules. For borderline cases, it comes down to a vote between pride owners. Sometimes we may even ask outside opinions. Please understand that we do make every effort to let everyone in.

Quote:
Please note! There are firekin in the pride who do not conform to the color rules. Before you ship an angry letter to the mule, know that most of the huria colored firekin received their rank due to a plot event in the past.

Please use the above guidelines, not other pride members.

So you've made it this far! You are an approved color, think you are a badass, and its time to make your way out into the desert! Only one thing remains: to join the pride, you must prove to the firekin that you are worthy of their time. And the only way to do this is to fight!

Why do we duel?:

First off, why do we use dice to determine battles? Because you should be perfectly comfortable with the idea of losing! If you believe your lion is undefeatable, we really don't need you here. It's just poor sportsmanship! Occasionally we will offer duel-free ways to join the pride, but these are rare and plot related. If you want to join, you're going to have to fight.

Once you join the pride, you do not ever need to use the duel system again! Only plot events involve dice, your lion will never need to defend his or her position.

Once your application is approved:

You may only start the duel process after your application has been PMed to the mule, and approved for membership. Once that has been completed, you may then:

@@@@• Check the duel thread in the subforum to see if there are any firekin available, or post your own. If no match is found, one of the pride owners will happily use one of their own firekin for your joining process. You can find the duel thread here.

@@@@• Once a fighting partner is found, decide between you who will begin the duel RP.

@@@@Only one joining duel may be created at a time.

@@@@• You must finish your duel before moving on to the next duel. If for some reason the other participant does not respond, you are free to make a new duel in a week's time.

Roleplaying the duel:

@@@@• The character who is going to roll first will set up the battle thread in the sub forum. Mark the RP as [duel] .

@@@@• Each RPer takes it in turns to randomise five numbers between 1 and 3 (one number at a time - totaling 10 posts altogether).

@@@@• It is up to you if you want to roll first for the entire duel, or roll as you go.

Quote:
Roll a dice, or set random number to 1-3.

The number determines your attack, as follows:

1 = miss / failed attack
2 = bide / glancing attack
3 = a hit / successful attack

@@@@• Once the rolls have been completed, the RPers will go back and edit their characters response into the post.

@@@@• A duel is deemed complete when each player has edited into their five posts with the appropriate responses.

Determining the winner:

The winner of the duel is the character with the highest total when all numbers from the randomized moves are added together. So, for instance if my duel was:

Ea:

1st roll: 1
2nd roll: 3
3rd roll: 3
4th roll: 2
5th roll: 1

TOTAL: 10

Fia:
1st roll: 2
2nd roll: 2
3rd roll: 3
4th roll: 1
5th roll: 1

TOTAL: 9

From the example above, you can see that Ea is the winner, her moves totalling a 10 which beats Fia’s 9.

If there is a tie, the rogue is also permitted to become a pride member.

For a live example please go here

What happens next?

The winner is accepted as a full member of the pride. The owner of the rogue must then PM the mule with a link to their completed RP. Once it is approved, they may submit for a cert change.

The loser is sent away from the pride, but encouraged to continue training and return again to challenge and participate in another duel when their skills are improved. A returning rogue (one who has participated in a duel before) does not need to go through the joining application process. Instead they can simply apply to be partnered up with a combatant in a week’s time. This continues until the rogue is successful in the duel. A duel needs to be complete (all posts edited with RP responses) before you can try for a second duel - and so on.

End Note:

And to finish! It must be said that there's no consequence to a losing firekin. Combatants will be expected to be good sports. The battles are fuels, not life and death struggles and are done in good faith.
