Elcca's bright eyes narrowed in thought. Still the word was rolling around her head like a stone. Graos oma. This was where it would have been handy to be able to be in two places at once. This was the sort of thing that warranted investigation. Research. It was hard to say if such a thing would be possible, if the northlands were truly massed with nergui forces... what they needed were ears to the Nergui.
If she agreed on anything though, it was that this was no simple matter and the firekin had simple minds. They wanted to point at a target and fell it. She doubted what had been discussed would do much to quell their desire for retribution. But was that what the nergui wanted? They wanted a war with the firekin- perhaps the Southlands itself? Why?
"It is curious that they chose to attack from the south," she mused. "That would suggest that either the Nergui snuck passed the guards, or have already sent smaller forces into the southland itself. And if that is the case, how did they time the attack to coincide exactly with your arrival? Even if Miah is a spy, the distance between the attack location and your arrival point was great. The Nergui use seers, but no seer is that accurate."
Her nose crinkled. At least she wasn't about to suggest there was any better than herself!

Ukuba remained strangely quiet as the conversation continued, choosing to listen for a bit rather than to add. He had nothing more to say as it was, as like Thabiti had said, there were no true answers, only speculation. He didn't really mind speculating, but good hard facts were his preference.
He had to admit though, things were starting to look up a bit. So the Firekin was a much larger force than they knew? That was certainly good news, as if the Nergui invaded, it may be sheer numbers that made the difference. After all, Nerguis were very difficult to take down in a one-on-one. If the Firekin simply outnumbered them, perhaps they stood a chance.
(( XP; Super ill at the moment, so sorry for the lack of contribution at this point. ))

((That's all right, Masa! I'll do this as a wrapping-up post (though if anyone wanted to put up any final contributions to this, that's fine.))
Roho was quiet for a moment, mulling over everything that had been said and picturing the conversation that Nawvlee would have with the regents. She hoped that they would not be so quick to dismiss their usefulness. The fear of it had her stomach twisting with nerves.
"You are right, Elcca. That is no small distance to travel. Perhaps they may have calculated the time it would take by physically travelling there. Perhaps this has been in planning for longer than even we may have thought." It was scary to think that the Nergui might be so organised to have planned this month's in advanced, sending out small groups to accurately plot times and distance. "Either way, the regents will have to be content with the information we've garnered. It's not a lot, but it will have to do. We cannot assume anything of our enemy." Doing so would be dangerous, after all. "But to believe that you escaped without them wishing it..." She trailed for a moment before picking up the thread.
"So, what we do know is that the Nergui very likely allowed you to escape. Why that could be is yet unknown. Perhaps they did want a distraction to make their attack. Or perhaps they simply wanted the Firekin to grow fearful hearing the stories that you would tell about them: break our courage before the war has even begun."
She blinked. "And as for Miah..." She forcefully held back a growl. "Whether he is Nergui or not seems to matter little at this moment in time. He is certainly not going anywhere in a hurry and his own people seem to have deemed him a sacrifice worth making. If he is a traitor or simply a devoted follower willing to give up his life to aid them, it is of little importance now." And if therer were traitors amongst their numbers, what good did it do them if they could not speak with them?
"It's also clear that their behaviour is strange and somewhat unpredictable. They must have motives and reasons but not even those who have been with them for a length of time can figure it out." She drew in a sharp breath. "And no one has seen a leader to speak of. Perhaps that means he is elsewhere? With some greater force elsewhere out in the lands? The closest lead we have is this 'Graos Oma' but, there's no telling whether that's even his name. But whether they have a larger force elsewhere, they clearly think they have the numbers to start threatening us in our own home."
And that was it. That was all they had.
Even still, Roho was determined and she drew herself up all the taller. "You are not alone any more, my friends. We are Hongshan and we are strong. We owe it to our dead to stand and fight for their memories. It's time to shake off the grief and look to the future, because a lion too enraptured in the past has only a dishonourable death waiting for him."
She took a step back to signal that she was done, her eyes fierce.
