Kalama didn't really like Moto'spaki all that much. She didn't like most lions all that much, to be honest, but for whatever reason he was irritating. Probably because he had held her back when the Hongshan had arrived. Maybe entirely because of that, because she hadn't really interacted with him much before that. Well, still. Bottom line, she didn't like him much.
Which was why a duel seemed like a perfectly good way to show him she didn't like him. She found him that day near the dueling area, and figured, what the hey. Might as well. "Hey, you." Kalama said, trotting right up to the while lion, tail swishing behind her. "Come on." He'd certainly get the messaged, so she turned around and headed back to the center of the circle.
This should be interesting!

It could be said that Moto'spaki felt the same way about Kalama as she did about him, though his reasons were probably somewhat different. She was rash, stubborn and reckless. And even though he knew she felt some pride in being a firekin, the red lioness hardly seemed a very honorable, or loyal sort.
He didn't want to fight her, really. He could fight an opponent he didn't like or respect in a true battle, but for some reason this was different. It was just a duel. He found no pleasure in dueling someone he disliked.
Still, this wouldn't make him refuse the challenge, so with a slight shrug of his shoulders, he stepped forwards. "Alright, you go first."

It seemed people liked to 'let' her go first, and more often than not, Kalama found, it ended badly for them. Some lions hated having the first move in a duel, because it seemed way too predictable, and then they felt they would have to think up something fancy to make it happen.
But Kalama was much more straightforwards, and somehow it tended to work. She ran right up towards her opponent, and leaped at him, intending to hit him straight on.
And so she did, actually! It was full on hit, but, sadly, she didn't succeed in knocking him over. Damn.
